This was an awesome food tour that let us try so many staples of not only Japan, but the Osaka food culture as well. Our guide was very knowledgeable and shared so much info beyond just the food we were eating. I would highly recommend this on your trip to Osaka!
Go hungry! There was quite a lot of food in the first few stops...and not much walking to make room, but the food was delicious. Great experience
One of the best food tours we have been on. We got to experience all the local specialties. Nick was a fantastic guide, very engaging and sharing his knowledge about Shinsekei neighborhood and what makes Osaka unique. We even had a chance to play pachinko. Loved the experience of Osaka’s Coney Island!
James was excellent! The food was great at every place we visited with him as well as a variety of food and drinks. James was so well versed in speaking many languages as well as fluent Japanese. He explained many things to us about the Japanese customs and differences between the various areas of Japan. Fun area to be in during the evening hours. Thank you!
This was an awesome and fun crash course into Japanese food and culture!
The food tour was at Shinsekai area. Our tour guide was a funny and chill Japanese-speaking Canadian dude named Kevin- who introduced us to different dishes and seemed to be buddies with all the Japanese locals in the area.
It was pretty fun and we wouldn’t have otherwise found these places on our own.
Kevin being able to speak Japanese gave us as a group a lot of street cred! LOL
This food tour was a great way to kickoff our time in Osaka! The food was great and our guide, Kiko, was awesome! He was so funny and personable which definitely contributed to an even better experience. Would definitely recommend!
Excellent taste of Osaka!! Wide variety of dishes & lots of little insights into the culture. Boston Paul was a fantastic tour guide & we’d highly recommend him as a guide for any and all. His conscientiousness, patience and helpfulness made it a truly enjoyable experience. Loved the tidbits he provided in regards to his personal experiences and favorites.
Start hungry!! So many dishes to try and all delicious! We were lucky enough to have two guides - Taka and Kai - and they did a great job of introducing us to this part of Osaka and recommending what to eat. Really enjoyed spending time with two local, very cool guys. Thank you!
A great time with great food a great guide, Nick.
Despite it being a rainy evening Nick kept our groups' spirirts high and the tour exciting. He took to a collection of excellent eateries (with covered seating) and explained each dish in detail as well as offering tips on how to order, speak Japanese phrases and on general cultural knowledge for Osaka.
Amazing 3 Hour Food Tour thru Osaka. Our guide Mari was super knowledgeable and made the tour interesting and fun. She took our small group (7 people) thru the back streets to eat some of the top Osaka eats with the locals. I would highly recommend this tour.
This tour was SO much fun and the food was delicious! Kiko was so informative and kept the tour going at a great pace, and it was cool getting to try out foods I might normally have been too shy to try on my own. If you’re a foodie visiting Osaka I definitely recommend this tour.
Fantastic Osaka food tour with Marie! She was an excellent guide. She was warm, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable about both the food and local culture. We learned so much, tried some great dishes, and really enjoyed the whole experience. Highly recommend!
Mario was great!! He was friendly and very knowledgeable:) highly recommend the tour. He told us the local details that we would have ever known if we didnt do the tour
This was an excellent tour and a great way of exploring Osaka and its food venues.
We enjoyed a variety of food and drink, in a number of venues.
I would highly recommend this tour as an introduction to Osaka.
Great tour with Eri and Riri! They did a great job taking us around and sharing fun little facts and history with delicious bites!
Mario was a great guide! He showed us around a cool part of the city that was filled with restaurants. Most of them were booked prior to the tour so it was a smooth experience, and all of the food was amazing! My group and I enjoyed the food tour and would definitely recommend it to any travelers to Osaka who love trying different foods.
This was a brilliant experience and fun - we all loved it (family of 6 adults) and the food was delicious at all the local Osaka places we ate at. Our guide James was great - knowledgeable and really easy to get along with. Definitely recommend.
Our tour guide, Rutti, was great! Super knowledgeable, accommodating and kind, and patient with us bringing 2 kids under 2. I am giving this tour less than 5 stars because i booked this tour for specifically stating that it is kid friendly with infant chairs available and that was not the case. We live in Japan and are familiar that traditional restaurants usually don’t have great space for strollers and infant chairs, so it was refreshing to see that this tour was going to offer it. Furthermore, the tour asked to book a child ticket for any child over 1. We had a 16 month old and were reluctant to pay a ticket (~$50) but were willing for kid friendly spaces. My kid fell asleep for 3/5 food stops which is no fault of the tour, but the paid portion was not offered to us nor even prepared. All this to say the tour is great and the food was amazing and I highly recommend this tour, I just was a little bummed it is a little misleading by saying kid friendly and I ended up not needing to pay for my kid.
Food was amazing and the guide did an amazing job keeping everyone entertained and happy. The food was delicious and the drinks were good the guide even helped me order some drinks I wanted to try. Overall 10/10 experience would recommend to anyone new to osaka.
This was an interesting tour. You need to be somewhat adventurous as an eater. To see this street food experience was a treat. A bit unusual but fun too.
It was a great food tour.
I will say Taka the tour guide is food guru.
He was very knowledgeable and well experienced.
He taught some words to say in Japanese to be thankful and appreciate the cook.
This tour is highly recommended..
I appreciate what I learned in this tour.
Nick was excellent
Tour was awesome. 5 local restaurants with 15 dishes i would likely have never ordered. Nick help with great drink recommendation.
Food was outstanding. Even better with Nicks wealth of knowledge on the dishes, the area and how things have evolved.
Local history info was amazing. He is a wealth of knowledge of all things Osaka
This is a must do tour in Osaka
One of the best experiences of our trip! Top experience, would highly recommend! Nick was a fantastic guide bringing great energy along with fun and engaging stories to give a great background to the city of Osaka. The food stops were brilliant - amazing local dishes you may not normally find or try on your own!
Sara was the most amazing host! We had the best time and she made us all laugh. She explained everything clearly and suggested certain drinks which were the best. Highly recommend!!
We had an amazing time on the tour in Shinsekai with Sara. So many great insights and great food. Thanks for a great time!
I had a great experience on this food tour. My guide was Nick, and I felt like this tour was a great balance of amazing food, drinks, culture immersion, and city history. Would recommend!
Highly recommend this tour! It gave us a great feeling for the Higashi area (which we likely would have missed otherwise).
Our guide, Bernie, was wonderful. He knew a ton about the area, history, customs, etc. from his 16 years living in Osaka.
It was fun to be with a group and walk around, explore, and eat delicious food at some hidden gems!!
I really wanted to enjoy this experience, and our guide, Knox, was kind and personable. Unfortunately, the tour itself bore very little resemblance to what was advertised.
The description promises a local guide, hidden eateries, specialty restaurants, and an opportunity to experience Osaka’s food and culture. Instead, our guide was a 29 year old American who has lived in Japan for seven years and openly acknowledged that his Japanese should be much better. While living in Osaka certainly gives him familiarity with the city, this was not what I understood “a local guide” to mean when booking a food and culture tour.
More importantly, we did not visit hidden eateries or specialty restaurants. We stayed within roughly a 100 yard area and visited establishments that felt very tourist oriented. There was little sense that we were being introduced to places we would not otherwise discover on our own. For a tour specifically marketed around hidden Osaka eateries and local food culture, this was extremely disappointing.
The tour also seemed to focus far more on our guide’s personal stories than on the food, restaurants, or Japanese culture. Some of the conversation felt particularly inappropriate given that my 17 year old son was with us. Our guide spoke repeatedly about drinking and smoking, told us about a friend taking acid before visiting the aquarium, and discussed how much his girlfriend smokes. He was also extremely loud in the restaurants, which made the experience feel even less connected to the Japanese culture the tour claims to showcase.
Another frustration was the way drinks were presented. Several times our guide said that our drinks were “on him,” even though drinks were included in the tour we had already paid for. He also mentioned that he lives off his tips, which came across as an uncomfortable reminder that we were expected to tip at the end.
Again, Knox was friendly and clearly enjoys meeting people. My criticism is not that he was unkind. The problem is that this was marketed as an immersive Osaka food tour led by a local, featuring hidden eateries and specialty restaurants, and that simply was not the experience we received.
For the price and based on the description, I expected to learn about Osaka’s food culture, visit interesting local establishments, and come away feeling that we had experienced something unique. Instead, it felt like a very small walking loop through tourist establishments accompanied by a personable guide telling stories about his own life.
I would strongly encourage the tour company to either revise the description to accurately reflect the experience being offered or ensure that its guides and itinerary actually deliver what guests are paying for.
Excellent tour that gave a variety of dishes and some drinks in a private and small setting. The guide was informative and tour ran smoothly.
This was a highlight of our trip! Dominic was an incredible guide and the whole experience was welcoming, energetic and fun! Food was very good and more than enough. The kids loved it too. Thank you for a great experience!
