Our tour guide was Irish and so quirky we loved him!! This was our favorite tour we did in Japan. We walked around, learned history, and ate delicious food. I recommend this tour 100% so much fun!

Great experience, a lot of interesting and unique information about osaka and japan. You get to see some "touristy" areas but then also see some areas you absolutely would not on other tours. Dinner is at end for anyone booking the with dinner option and was delicious.

Takes you through parts of Osaka you'd never find on your own — the former ghetto, the Red Light district, hidden backstreets — the kind of "other side" of the city most tours don't touch. The history and local knowledge our guide shared was great, and I came home with stories and facts that impressed my friends. Our guide was personable, knowledgeable, and made the whole night feel easy and comfortable even in unfamiliar neighborhoods. Highly recommend.

My partner and I recently joined in on this tour through Osaka's backstreets and we had a great time! Knox was our guide and he was excellent - personable, entertaining and above all, informative - and very happy to answer all of our questions. We also really appreciated his efforts to not make light of some of the more sensitive/serious subjects we came across during the tour.
We were really amped to see some of the places along the tour's route that we never would have stumbled across otherwise and really appreciated the tips on other sights to see (or not see) and food spots to check out.
The tour is well worth it for anyone interested in seeing and learning more about Osaka outside of the typical stuff.

This tour was incredibly fun and informative! We learned so much about the hidden side of Japan that tourists don’t usually see. Mari was absolutely amazing, and her impersonations were fantastic. They really brought the stories to life. We also appreciated the way she respected the locals when discussing topics in their neighborhood. We wish we could do this tour again and again, as we’re still talking about all the information we learned. If you’re looking for a great tour, cancel all your other plans and do this one!

This was my second time doing this tour. I did it back in 2023 too. This time around I brought my parents along. Mari was excellent and exceeded the previous great impression this tour left on me.
She was so thorough and knowledgeable on a wide arrange of topics, being able to answer questions on ANYTHING Japan related.
Highly recommend this tour and highly recommend doing it with Mari.

This is an excellent tour of the back streets and belly of Osaka. It was so great to get out of the tourist areas and learn about its secret and not so secret edges. Knox our tour guide was a great guide and teacher. Our dinner at the end was a great local spot in Shinsekai and the perfect end to the night.

Enjoyed an evening to night stroll through Osaka's "retro" areas and "edgier" backstreets. Guide was good fun and kept a great pace with the walking and banter! Good to hear stories about Osaka's older district and visit less known areas. Took an eye-opening walk through red light district! Enjoyed beers & food throughout the tour.

Knox was our guide and he is the perfect guide. He's very personable and extroverted so we have no doubt he can get along with anyone. His voice carries well so you'll have no problem hearing his guiding as you walk through the streets. Knox took us on an interesting adventure and we learned so much about the less heard side of the Japanese culture. It was also interesting to learn Knox's journey to Japan and his experiences living here as a foreigner. We really enjoy tours where we get to learn more about actually living in the country so Knox was the perfect guide for us.
We highly recommend this tour to anyone.

It was a very interesting experience exploring the darker side of Osaka-not your typical tourist hotspots.
Our guides Rudy and Alex were so knowledgable and shared unique Japanese history. The tour is a little over 3 hours of walking but very easy since there are breaks along the way. They even provided a surprise snack of chicken karaage from Shinsekai. Making the experience that much more authentic. Rudy and Alex were very open and put all of our questions at ease.
Highly recommend this unique experience to all adults.

An interesting tour of the other side of Osaka that most tourist do not see. Mark was excellent with his knowledge and ability to deliver it in a fun way. It is evident that he truly appreciates all aspects of Japanese culture. Even as a frequent traveller to Japan this tour is a must.

My Aussie husband and I had a fantastic time last week, with our Irish-rock singing guide. We learned a lot, laughed a lot and had good food. My husband said that our guide was his favorite one, EVER (and we do a lot of tours)!

Traveled with friends and wanted to have a night out in town doing something unique. Bennett was great at pacing the tour and giving us all the local info in an insightful and honest manner. I was a bit apprehensive that we would be led by a non Japanese guide but having his perspective was what gave the tour its realness. Everything we saw was fascinating and we truly did witness the underbelly of Osaka from a personal but safe distance. The optional dinner was great! It added an additional hour to our tour making it end at 9:30 pm but was worth extending our babysitters at home. Would definitely recommend to others! Just a heads up that a smaller group is better for this excursion so if you have a large group, consider breaking yourselves up to two smaller groups. Cheers!

This was an exceptional tour, and exactly what I was looking for! Our guide Joseph, took us to parts of Osaka I wouldn't have found on my own, explaining the unspoken underbelly, of Osaka and what is swept under the carpet: the sex workers, the homeless. He was engaging, knowledgeable, and while you might "think dark underbelly" it was 100% safe. This was this side of Japan I wanted to know more about but no one talks about. Put this tour at the TOP of your list!

Insightful walking tour addressing the underbelly of Japan/Osakan life, and touched upon religion, mental health, sex work, and gangs, in addition to all of the wonderful things Japan has to offer. Our tour guide, Thomi, was a wealth of information, and shared it in an engaging, thoughtful and interesting way. This was one of the best walking tours I've ever done - HIGHLY recommended!!

This was exactly what I hoped for. After seeing a lot of the touristy parts, it was very interesting to learn about the grittier areas and more about the history. Mari was wonderful and explained everything very well and was very patient to answer any and all questions. I knew a fair amount about the history with the "gentlemen" and about gambling but it was still very interesting. And i learned a lot about the unhoused population and abandoned homes. As a solo traveler, I also greatly enjoyed meeting the others in my group and mingling with people from all over. I think walking through the Red Light Distict actually helped everyone bond lol And after the tour, I had the dinner option. The Motsunabe and yakitori were AMAZING! Thank you, Mari for a wonderful your! And I will definitely be recommending it to anyone i know visiting Osaka!

So glad I did this and learned about some of the taboos of Japanese society. Would highly recommend this tour for people who want to scratch beneath the surface.
The only thing that could have been better: avoid standing for 10 minutes in a park full of mosquitoes, where the same can be said in the parking lot in front.
