Historical train ride 20m under the city of London

Mark_B, Mar 2026
Excellent attraction for old and young, the history and the train ride was fun. Both adults and children had a great time.

An interesting little museum dedicated to the mail tunnels/mail rail! If you have kids make sure to add on the playroom as it’s not automatically included. A great way to spend our last morning in London when we had 90 minutes to kill. **the playground is best suited for the 3-5 age. My 8yo was able to find stuff to do but it was a stretch and most of the kids are younger.

Sad

Genevieve_T, Jun 2025
This was fine and we went with our family, but unfortunately the postal train was shut down. So we were pretty disappointed because we got there and we weren’t able to ride it. I think it was because of the rain?

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Thank you for your recent visit to The Postal Museum and for taking the time to share your feedback. I'm very sorry to hear that you and your family were disappointed to find the Mail Rail train ride unavailable during your visit. I completely understand how frustrating it must have been to arrive and discover that a key part of the experience wasn’t running, especially if the train ride was something you were all looking forward to. The closure was part of planned maintenance work to ensure the continued safety and reliability of the ride, and we had placed a notice on our website in advance to help inform visitors ahead of booking. I’m sorry that this information didn’t reach you, and we will be reviewing how we can improve our communications to make such updates more visible and accessible going forward. We really value your support and hope that despite this, you and your family enjoyed exploring the rest of the museum. . Thank you again for your feedback.

The Royal Mail Experience

Victoria_A, Apr 2025
This activity is for all ages and abilities. I was especially excited to see the Voices of Resistance: Slavery and Post in the Caribbean exhibit which I highly recommend. The mail rail was also fun. Be sure to do that first, and then finish in the main building further down the road. Note: The archives in the main building on the second floor is open every second Saturday of the month. It's a nice quiet escape from the noisy children if one gets overstimulated.

Amazing exhibition of social history

rachelclayton1, Mar 2025
It gave us, as grandparents, an amazing opportunity to talk to the boys (10 and 8 ) about the UK as we remembered it when postmen/women were such valuable members of the community. They were as integral to the safety and well-being in the community as the copper on the street. The train journey was a fascination experience. The contents of the workers’ lockers on the day the station closed added to the authenticity of the area. Give yourselves enough time to allow children to really explore all the interactive models. Although busy there was enough space to move around easily. The train experience exceeded expectations. We are planning to book to walk the line some time in the future.

Elizabeth_H, Dec 2024
Really enjoyed the visit to the postal museum. Really interesting and a bit sad how the governments has run the service down. The mail rail was great fun would recommend for all ages.

Lots to see and the mail train was great!

Rosemary_K, Jul 2024
Loved the mail train. Very clever the way the history of it was brought to life along the journey. There were lots of other exhibits too and plenty to do along the way.

Favourite museum in London

Abigail_P, Jun 2024
We absolutely loved the Postal Museum. The Mail Rail in particular was thoroughly enjoyable. We also very much enjoyed the interactive elements of the museum - love the pneumatic tubes!

Fun and Enjoyable

Daisy_A, Jun 2024
I like the mail rail very much. It shows the history and how the rail used to work. Had lots of fun even as an adult.

Top museum

Max_D, May 2024
Top museum. Top train ride. Friendly staff. Very interesting. Nice café for lunch or tea. Two locations.

Mail Rail is awesome!

Tim_S, Apr 2024
Mail rail was really cool and the kids (6 and 3) loved it. Not recommended for tall people. I’m 5’11” and my head was almost hitting the roof.

Response from Host, Apr 2024

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We are happy to hear you and your family had a nice time despite being a bit cramped.

A mail adventure through time!

Sylvie_G, Jan 2024
The train ride was fun. Interesting facts along the way. The museum is bright, interactive and we learnt many fact about Mail in general.

Great place for little train buffs

Meredith_M, Dec 2023
I took my 7 year old on the Mail Rail after a European holiday where he was “over” museums, but his rating on this was “awesome”. Riding the tunnels is both fun and interesting, and he also enjoyed the hands on displays after you get off. Admittedly we didn’t get into the main part of the Postal Museum as this was our last day in London and we were short on time, but I would recommend the Mail Rsil to anyone who has the slightest interest.

Great fun and interesting

Lynne_F, May 2023
Interesting and fun tour of the old postal underground tunnels on the postal train. Great museum to wander though fire the ride on the postal train.

Response from Host, May 2023

Hi Lynne, Thank you for your lovely comments! We are glad you had a nice time!

Excellent

Stephen_D, Apr 2023
Excellent, friendly and thoroughly enjoyed by the two grandchildren aged 8 and 5. They particularly liked the "little train" ride and they learnt a lot. The only disappointment was the cafe, with a very poor selection and no hot food. Coffees were available but only with full cream milk and they had run out of sweeteners

First Class

An out-of-the-ordinary museum experience. Loved riding the Mail Rail but almost missed out on the main museum due to lack of signage.

A fun couple of hours at a reasonable price

Gaye_W, Aug 2022
A great museum with a fun ride. Lots of interesting information with interactive displays, especially for kids. The biggest downside was DO NOT eat anything from the cafe. We queued for a drink, & was going to order a slice of cake. While in the queue, the server kept touching her long hair, & had dandruff on her shoulder, & was all over the uncovered cakes & other food, as were the kids in the queue. Her hair should have been tied up & the food covered.

A postal adventure!

Melissa_S, Jul 2022
The entire experience from the rail ride to the interactive exhibits, were both entertaining and educational. They held the attention of adults and children. When I told friends we were going they looked at us funny, anyone who assumes that this museum is boring is missing out!

A tour with a difference!

Toni_H, Jun 2022
Such a great unique tour, a great experience. The trip in the mail train was great and seeing how it operated through the ages was also good.

Well worth a look

Jessica_S, Jun 2022
I really enjoyed the train ride and the information given as you went along my husband was a postie, although not in London so was interesting to see how post was dealt with by this train service
