We had a great time! Saw lots of manatees, a baby alligator, a dolphin, and lots of interesting other fish and underwater surprises. Be sure to bring your own sunscreen and use it, even if it looks a bit overcast above.

We had a wonderful time today with Cypris, our guide, and several other folks. We paddled around King's Bay and were lucky to see several manatees swimming and resting among all the people, kayaks, etc. The manatees are so calm and sweet. Cypris explained thoroughly how to respect their safety and privacy. I feel privileged to have been close to these lovely, peaceful animals.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the wildlife in the area. She did her best for us to see manatees. Because of the warm day (85 degrees) we were only able to see a momma and her baby. Will definitely go back.

Not the nature kayaking tour advertised – mostly residential canals and marina

We drove 2 hours from Orlando expecting a peaceful 3-hour nature kayaking tour through scenic waterways to observe manatees. Unfortunately, the experience was very different from what was advertised. Most of the tour took place in residential canals and marinas between private boats and houses rather than in natural areas. It felt more like paddling through people’s backyards than exploring nature. The guide talked almost nonstop about unrelated personal topics instead of focusing on wildlife or the environment. At times it felt like he was trying hard to make ordinary things like jumping fish seem exciting. We did eventually see a few manatees, but they were surrounded by multiple snorkelers chasing them, which was honestly sad to watch rather than enjoyable. The tour was also about 2 hours on the water instead of the advertised 3 hours, and at the end we were asked to wait for photos taken by the guide, which seemed to count as part of the tour time. We were also charged an additional $5 launch fee and $10 parking on top of the $80 tour price. Overall, the experience felt very commercial and far from the relaxing nature tour that was advertised. Had we known the route would be mostly through residential marinas, we would not have booked.

Sorry you had a bad experience, but evidently you do not read the descriptions or details of the tours. 1. The tour is not advertised as three hours. It’s advertised and directed as a two hour tour. 2. The $5 launch fee is also stated in the listing as that would be unethical not to have it there. 3. The parking fee (collected by the actual parking lot company) is ALSO listed! 4. The tour is not $80, don’t exaggerate. Three things are all listed but you complain like you were surprised, but you just didn’t READ before you booked or arrived. As far as being in nature, yes you are in nature. Every waterway in the euros is different. If they were all the same, then why would people go?!?!? There are canals with people, but there are also peaceful spots on your own. Sounds to us like you just have a hard time having fun and look for things to complain about.

It was a fun experience. It takes 2 hrs. You have to paddle near some boats so make sure you are aware of paying attention and staying with your group. Bring a hat and apply sunscreen prior to the tour. All employees were friendly and helpful

Best manatee viewing ever!

This was so fun! We went on a cooler day and we saw so many manatees, so many beautiful fish, and our guide was extremely funny and knowledgeable, and was able to teach us quite a bit about the local wildlife and Marine life. I would absolutely recommend this as something to do with friends, family, or with kids. ‘Kyle with a smile’ and his coworker Zack were amazing, and I would definitely go back there again! One of the highlights of our trip.❤️

We completely understand your frustration—when the river gets busy with multiple tour groups, private boats, and swimmers all converging on the same spots (especially during peak manatee season), it can definitely take away from the serene, respectful wildlife-watching experience everyone hopes for. To clarify: we intentionally limit our own groups to a maximum of 10 people per tour to keep things intimate, low-impact, and easier to manage respectfully around the manatees. Unfortunately, we cannot control what other companies or private boaters do in the area, and the overall number of people and vessels on the river is determined by broader regulations, local management, and the high popularity of Crystal River as a manatee destination. Your suggestion about smaller limits on observers is very valid and one we fully support in principle—it's something the community continues to discuss and advocate for to better protect the manatees and improve the experience for everyone. We do our best every day to choose less-crowded routes when possible, time departures thoughtfully, and emphasize safe, low-impact practices with our small groups. Feedback like yours helps reinforce why those efforts (and continued advocacy for better river management) are so important. Not worth it

The water was really murky so we had a hard time seeing anything. Even in a clear boat we couldn’t see manatees directly under us. It was really crowded with tour boats, swimmers & other kayak groups everywhere. Swimmers were really a major hazard. Near the end of our tour we encountered pod of 8 manatees. We had a difficult time seeing them unless they stuck their snouts up. Also extra fees for parking & launching weren’t included or mentioned in booking thru Viator.

We took a clear kayak tour to crystal river . It was nice and saw manatees. It was a little disappointing the water was murky and hard sometimes to see the manatees. Also was very crowded with other kayaks and boats.

If you enjoy being yelled at and treated like a child, maybe this is for you. My family and I went thinking this would be a great experience and maybe it is, but it wasn’t for us. Our guide Jaz was not what you would call, friendly. I get it, she needs to control the group and ensure everyone follows the rules but you can accomplish that with a smile, courtesy and respectfully. She was such a downer, it really made for a poor expedience. While we did see some manatees, the water is so dark, you really don’t see much here at this location. I wish we would have gone up to the State park where the water is so much clearer.

The water in Kings Bay (where most of our launches start) can indeed be darker or murkier at times due to natural factors like tannins, sediment from boat traffic, tides, or weather—it's not always the crystal-clear turquoise many people picture from photos of other nearby springs or state park areas. While we do see manatees regularly in this part of the river (and we're glad you spotted some!), the visibility isn't always ideal for clear underwater views, especially compared to places like Three Sisters Springs in the state park (which is a different access point and often has restrictions or separate tours). We wish we'd been able to set clearer expectations upfront about what the typical water conditions look like here so you weren't left feeling disappointed by the darkness. Your family's experience matters a great deal to us, and feedback like this helps us improve—whether it's training guides to lead with more warmth and positivity, or being more transparent about water clarity and what guests can realistically expect in different areas. We're sorry this wasn't the great family memory you were looking for, and we completely respect that it wasn't the right fit for you. If you ever decide to try manatee viewing again (perhaps at a clearer spring like Three Sisters or during a time when water conditions are optimal), we hope you find a spot that delivers the magical, clear-water experience you're envisioning. However the area was extremely overcrowded with both kayaks and motor boats. It was extremely chaotic. I felt bad for the guide she did a great job considering the conditions. The boats make it very unsafe for the swimmers. We only saw a couple of manatees and we couldn't get very close because a swimming tour group was there. That's probably the best way to see the manatees but we almost saw a couple of swimmers get hit by a boat. We loved the experience but suggest that you call the company directly. Viator has hidden fees. The guide was great as well as the staff. Fees to park as well as marina fees for the launch. Viator charged extra than calling the company.
