Tour operator doesn’t reply. Weather was extremely cold and rainy on the day of tour. Wanted to know if tour was pushing through. No reply. I hope Viator gives me a refund

This tour looked great, but has been nothing but a hassle every since booking it on Viator. I booked the tour a day or two in advance in September, and a few hours before the tour, was sent an email that said unfortunately they can't do the tour and provided the options to reschedule or get a refund. Things happen, people get sick, so it was disappointing, but it happens. I reached out to request a refund as I was headed out of town the next day and not able to reschedule. I never heard back. I reached out multiple times over email regarding my refund. Again, no response. I called and spoke with Wolfgang, he answered my call, said he couldn't figure it out on his side, but that he would call me back with an update. Never got a call. I emailed to follow up. Again, no response. It has been 2 months and no refund. Overall just a bad experience and poor customer service. The tour may be great (I don't actually know), but can absolutely say the service and communication is poor and would not book with them, as it can be canceled and you are out for money.

This is an intimate walking tour of downtown Birmingham with a woman who has lived here her whole life. It’s extremely insightful and very powerful to see the actual locations where so many monumental historic events took place.

I was in Birmingham with my army son. We wanted to learn more about the city and found this civil rights experience. Being white, and from the north, we had learned much of this in school ... happy to say. However, the connections dim with time. Wilhelmina did a wonderful job explaining the perspective of life in Birmingham during that turbulent decade. She didn't learn the content from Chatgbt. She learned it from life. We appreciate her honest assessment, even on controversial topics. We talked about it several times during the next day. No higher compliment.

Wilhamena is extremely knowledgeable, and gave an amazing tour. She’s a Birmingham native and that really adds to the experience.

It was leisure, friendly, welcoming, filled with a personal touch, quite informative, interchangeable and flexible. Couldn’t have had a better tour guide.

They never showed up! The meeting point is in a stupid and illogical location...literally at the end of a random alley! I stayed at the location 10 minutes before start of tour and 15 minutes afterwards and nobody showed up. Very unprofessional from the company. Issued a complaint and got a refund. They didn't even explain why the tour didn't go ahead.

Great high-level history overview of downtown Birmingham with a good mix economic, architectural, Civil Rights and cultural information. Definitely time well-spent and glad we made the stop!

Interesting information. Lots of personal experience , which got us in to interesting conversations. Would have liked more sequential presentation

The guide and historian, Wilhelmina, shared stories from her deep knowledge. Listening to stories from a person who has close experience of the places gives much more than just reading books. I am so glad that she was available on Christmas day.

Such an interesting tour. Wilhelmina was very knowledgeable and helped us understand the context on the events of civil rights in Birmingham. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a short civil rights tour.
Donald_C, Nov 2024
My guide was from the area and was very knowledgeable about all the topics and sites that we visited. She answered all my questions and knew a lot of details you wouldn't find anywhere else. It was a great experience

Wilhelmina is such a fabulous guide! Her research, her patience with our “dumb” questions, her ability to bring Birmingham alive, is not to be missed💕

We recently participated in the 1963 Birmingham Civil Rights Experience - Black History Matters Walking Tour, and it was truly fulfilling and inspiring. The knowledgeable guide provided insightful stories and historical context that brought the Civil Rights Movement to life.
Walking through key locations in Birmingham, I felt the weight of history and was deeply moved by the bravery of those who fought for justice. This tour not only educated me but also ignited a passion to advocate for social justice.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to deepen their understanding of this critical era in American history. It’s an experience that will resonate long after it’s over.

Great walking tour of the black history places in Birmingham. The guide was knowledgeable and left no questions unanswered. Pickup location was easy to find and there is a parking garage a block away. I recommend this tour if you are wanting to know about some of Birmingham's black history.

The 16th Street Baptist C
hurch and the statue depicting the four girls killed in the bombing. I wanted to do the museum. But, it was closed.
