Worth Doing!

We thought the weather would affect our trip but it was perfect. We were above the clouds and the clouds just parted. The sunset on Mauna Kea was beautiful and stargazing was great even with a bit of a bright moon. James, our guide with Hawaiian Eyes tours arranged through Viator, was top notch and fun to be with. He was extremely attentive to safety and knowledgeable about the stars and landscape. We are very grateful To our relatives who recommended this to us.

We had a rainy day with the approaching storm, however we were pleased the tour still was operating despite hearing that other tours were cancelled. Donna was fantastic tour guide, providing us history tidbits about the island and the various stops. We even had time for a bonus stop at Big Island Candies. We didn’t do a stop at the black sand beaches but we didn’t really feel like we missed anything. Tour was actually 24 people despite being advertised as 12 max, however that didnt impact our ability to enjoy the trip. The stop at macadamia nut farm was cool to be able to see the trees and the lunch was delicious.

A great tour, but more difficult than expected.

We are seniors in our seventies. When we read the itinerary we knew it was a long day, but the activities were very attractive and it was something we felt we could do. What we didn’t realize was the amount of time needled to acclimate to the altitude, the extent of the warnings regarding altitude sickness and the height of the vehicle from the ground to the first step. Our tour guide did a good job of explaining the need for establishing good practices in order to avoid altitude issues. She was very conscientious about ensuring everyone on the truck was safe and well educated. We didn’t anticipate the difficulties that we would encounter entering and leaving the truck. That was compounded by the number of stops and experiences that required getting on and off. While everything we experienced was wonderful and as described, it was also exhausting and personally difficult. We have nothing but good things to say regarding our guide and drivers. They were professional and caring and dedicated to making this experience positive for everyone. A stronger warning and difficulty rating might have convinced us to reconsider this tour at our age.

WOW!!! If you’re thinking about this tour just book it. You will not be disappointed. We saw so many manta rays, with schools of fish everywhere. One ray was 2 meters wide. Came within an inch of your face. Such majestic creatures and a highlight of our trip. Also a huge thank you to our very funny tour guide and the crew who did a great job. Will definitely recommend this tour to our fellow Ozzie’s travelling to Hawaii.

Worthy of Your Time

Our tour guide Eugene made the experience wonderful, exciting and memorable. Even when things didn’t go as planned, clouds blocking the view of the stars, mist and rain on the summit of Mauna Kea, chill in the air or even some high altitude light headedness; Eugene provided amazing insight into the mountains, the history of the Hawaiians and geography of a most beautiful mountain that we all shared. Our vehicle was comfortable, making several pit stops to allow each of to acclimatize and explore as we climbed up the mountain. The tour provided a good tasty and very hot soup as our meal; providing plenty of tea, water and coffee for your very needs. We would highly recommend this tour above all others. This is our second trip and both times we had difficulty seeing the stars but Eugene got us to the summit. While we were unable to see the stars because of weather conditions that came in before the stars came out, we were able too see as beautiful sunsets providing us with another great memory. Moreover, the tour refunded us half of our money because we were unable to star gaze. This is worth the trip. Good luck.

Spectacular!

Magical I still have a hard time believing this experience actually happened. These creatures are so wonderful. The crew is great at navigating where the mantas are and kept everyone safe. There were 2 people with anxiety attacks that they calmly escorted back to the boat without it interfering with the rest of the groups time in the water. Great team, great animals, overall would absolutely book with this company again.

Top manta ray snorkel trip

This is a must do in Kona!!! Matthew and his team were very professional and informative throughout this whole experience!!! To be able to see 4 manta rays so I close and personal is a bucket list must do!!! They give excellent directions and do provide equipment!! Do arms stretches before because yo your keeping the “Superman pose” the whole time!!! Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience!!!

A WOW Experience

We appreciated all the safety protocols Blue Hawaiian had in place. The flight was under two hours and seating was comfy. The best view was had by the couple who sat next to our pilot. There are four seats behind those three seats so the copter holds seven including the pilot. I got a big kick out of the musical soundtrack. Magic Carpet Ride played as we took off, Jimmy Buffett's Volcano was on as we circled Kilauea and the theme Music for Jurassic Park played as we flew through a dense jungle gorge. These people have a great sense of humor. It was fantastic seeing parts of the island that one cannot get to any other way. All good things must come to an end and we weren't ready to land but we did. I highly recommend this adventure.
