Best shore excursion in Seward. Boo ki ng was easy. Got picked up from the cruise terminal on time. The dogs were friendly and so sweet. The ride was a great experience. We learned about raising and training these beautiful dogs. Chris was kind enough to take us back into town and told us a little about the town.

We went to Turning heads during our stay in Seward. We were picked up from our hotel on time. The kennel tour was properly planned with enough time with dogs, puppies and learning about the Iditarod trail race. Our favorite part was puppies and the sled ride. Our musher knew each dog and took time to introduce us to the dogs. It was a wonderful experience.

Itinerary

If you’re a fan of the Iditarod Trail, this kennel tour and dog-sled ride is for you.

Meet a musher team at the Turning Heads Kennel, a professional kennel with more than 50 huskies. Get to know the teammates and the dogs, and watch a short multimedia presentation about the trail. Hear about the personal experiences on the trail, and then frolic and cuddle with the puppies.

After a short stroll through the property, climb aboard a sled for a 1.5-mile (2-km) ride pulled by huskies. Soak up the beautiful landscapes, and pass an active eagle’s nest. The ride resembles little the cold and sacrifice many mushers experience when out on the trail, but you’ll nonetheless gain an appreciation of what the teams must endure in completing the race.

End your tour by hanging out a little longer with the friendly dogs.

Fun for the whole family

Seth_L, Aug 2026
Was better than I expected (I thought it would just be very touristy ) and this Kennel are true competitors in the race. Would do again!

We enjoyed meeting the dogs and learning about the mushing and how the dogs live and work, Didn’t like to see the dogs chained but apparently they get to run every day . Good pick up and return

It was cool to see the dogs. They were different than we expected. The demonstration on the equipment was fun and informative.

Great Tour

There was a little confusion regarding pick up, but once that was worked out it was a great experience. Especially if you like dogs and the outdoors. The tour was conducted by young individuals who truly have a passion for what they do. The puppies were so cute and the sled ride was interesting. Overall it was very informative and a great way to spend the morning.

Very knowledgeable crew informed us all about their operation, the dogs, the Iditarod and answered all of our questions. The kids wouldve preferred a bit more time with the puppies. Really enjoyed hearing about the sled and other equipment.

Surprisingly Informative

Jason_L, Aug 2026
This was a fun learning experience for the whole family. The dogs were awesome and the staff shared a lot of great information about the Iditarod and dog sledding in general.

Do it!

If you are thinking about this tour do it!! It was incredible! We got to be apart of training the alaskan huskies for the Iditarod race. Its a working kennel with guides who have raced in them!!! Highly recommend

A 'must do' in Seward!!

Andrea_M, Jul 2026
We had a great time at Turning Heads kennel. We learned a lot about the breeding, training, and care that goes into these beautiful dogs/athletes. And the puppies!! We got to snuggle with a few puppies and our hearts melted!

Fun and exciting

Brenda_S, Jul 2026
Was fun and exciting. We learned a lot about the dogs and mushing. They take very good care of their dogs. Hunter made a video on our phones of each dog and their names on our phones. It was a highlight of our vacation. If ever back in Seward, we would do this again.

Wonderful dogs

Gregg_K, Jul 2026
The dogs were wonderful. Plenty of time to interact with the dogs, and the beautiful puppies. Very informative.

Doggy overload, in the best way!

PaulPam_J, Jul 2026
Fell in love with all the dogs and the 3 puppies. You can tell everyone that works here is passionate about their jobs and care/training of these wonderful dogs. And the dogs are just as passionate about wanting to do their jobs too ☺️ Its amazing to watch them pull the cart full of people! Had such a good time and would highly recommend!

We felt very welcome and the guides clearly loved their work, and the dogs. The “sled” ride was so much fun - especially seeing how excited all the dogs got about it. Thanks for having us!

Amazing experience!

Sabrina_H, Jul 2026
We had the most amazing experience with the sled dogs here! We got to hold 11-day-old puppies, pet all of the sled dogs, and take a ride with the dogs. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about mushing and the Iditarod race. Our entire family, ages 8 to 80, said this was a highlight of our Alaska trip!

Wonderful Experience!

LOUISA_C, Jul 2026
We loved this experience. Each and every person working there were very nice and seemed to really enjoy their jobs. I don't have all of their names. Hunter was our musher for the sled ride. We enjoyed meeting the dogs, seeing the puppies and learning about mushing and seeing the sled up close. The dogs were incredible and so fun to watch and interact with. The length of this experience was perfect also. We liked that we had an option to be dropped off at the ship or downtown Seward. I highly recomment this tour.

Great sled dog experience

Highly recommend. Great interaction with the dogs. Definitely get your dog fix. Hunter was fantastic. Unbelievable the amount of time and effort that goes into doing the Iditarod.

Fantastic fun and educational. Hunter gave us s great tour and a great ride with the dogs. Family friendly too bring the kids!

Do it, you won’t regret it!

Cara_J, Jun 2026
This was a great experience! We worried it wouldn’t be as exciting since we were pulled in a cart on wheels instead of an actual sled, but it was amazing! We were pulled by 8 dogs that had won second place in the Iditarod this year, which was pretty cool.

Highly recommended

Very informative with interesting facts about Idatarod race. Friendly host and nice interaction with dogs and puppies alongside a fun sled ride around the property.

Terrific Tour of Turning Heads Kennel

MICHAEL_F, Jun 2026
This was such a fantastic tour for someone who knew very little about mushing and the Alaskan Iditarod. The stamina that these dogs have during racing is phenomenal. Learned a lot today about the human interaction with these Alaskan huskies and enjoyed our time spent petting them and the puppies. Thanks to the hosts for sharing your kindness, enthusiasm and love for your dogs with us.

Great tour, loved the dogs and the people!

Pete_M, Jun 2026
Great tour. Met and had good quality time with the sled dogs as well as actual puppies (10 week old!). Learned a lot about the dogs, how they train and what makes a good sled dog. And of course the ride in the wheeled training cart was fantastic. Maybe a little light on info about the actual Iditarod race and similar races, but got a little of that and got to see an actual Iditarod sled and gear. All the people (and dogs!) were very friendly and enjoyable. Would definitely choose them if we were going to do a helicopter & dog sled activity. Also, the price was very reasonable.

The puppies were...

Mary_A, Jun 2026
The puppies were adorable, the sled dogs were so happy and excited, and the kids were thoroughly entertained. This was a great outing and very much worth the effort. The shuttle and communication were stressful, though. We were picked up over ten minutes late with no communication, not even a text, so we thought we had been forgotten. Fortunately, we waited, the shuttle showed up and apologized, and we were able to enjoy the outing. Still 10/10 even with the rocky start.

Great experience!

michael_f, Jun 2026
This was a great experience. The mushers are very knowledgeable and did a great job explaining all about the dogs, the gear, and the Iditarod! The puppies were so much fun too!

Glad I did this one!

Marilyn_H, Jun 2026
Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Easy pickup and drop off. Learned a lot about the Iditarod as well.

Iditarod dog experience

Tatje_D, Jun 2026
Activity was just as described. We met inside and were given information about what was going to happen. Heather & Hunter were great at letting us know what we could expect and the rules to follow in our interactions with the dogs. Which was amazing. The bogs loved seeing us as much as we enjoyed seeing them. My 10 year old grandson was in heaven. Then we watched them hook up the dogs (who were ready to go) to a 3 seated cart and we were off. On a fast ride through the beautiful wooded area. It wasn’t just a ride but we were able to observe how they pull the dogs over for a water break and how the dogs learn to go potty while running (something you don’t usually think about). After our exciting ride we were showed how they care for the dogs on the Iditarod race. We really enjoyed the experience and hands on these amazing athlete dogs. We learned so much. These are Iditarod dogs not working mushing dogs. Now o know the difference
