Make your way to either Navy Pier or Michigan Avenue (depending on option chosen) for your cruise departure. Board your riverboat and find a comfortable seat; a restroom is available on the boat.
Listen as your guide, an architecture expert, gives you an introduction to the city's landmarks. Along the scenic route, see buildings by world-famous architects including Mies van der Rohe, Helmut Jahn, and beyond. A boat on the river is the best vantage point to admire the distinct city skyline.
Pass by dozens of classic Chicago buildings, including the John Hancock Center, the Willis Tower (formerly known as the Sears Tower), the Wrigley Building, and more. Learn about how the invention of balloon-frame construction revolutionized how homes were built, and hear the dramatic story of Chicago's rise from the Great Fire of 1871. Both of these milestones led Chicago to become one of the cradles of modern American architecture.

This was such a fun experience! I loved our tour guide, Eric. He was a trip! I recommend all people to try the boat ride out at least once! Especially at night, the view is top tier!

I took my 75 year old dad for an architectural tour and my dad doesn’t speak English. I had to translate for him and the tour guy Sam paused and yelled in the microphone “sir keep quiet, you’re loud and it’s distracting me”. He looked on the other side and did the same thing to someone else. It was so embarrassing and humiliating. It def ruined my experience and the remainder of the tour I spent disappointed and disconnected. This was a horrible situation to be in considering that the tour just started. Someone should provide Sam feedback and ask him to never do that again.

We enjoyed Joe’s insights and views. He was very knowledgeable we got a lot out of the tour. I could have spent double the time in the museum as it has so many great pieces.

I would recommend going at the 9 pm showing just to get the experience at nighttime! I went to the morning one and it was beautiful, but I think the lights of chicago’s architecture would be beautiful to see. The guide was super kind and lovely to listen to, he seemed like he really loves his job. The entire staff was warm and friendly, I’ll definitely do this again just for the pace of scenery. Thank you so much

Very enjoyable tour. Learned lots of interesting information about the Chicago downtown bldgs. The 75 minute tour was the right amount of time—not too long or too short. The boat was comfortable though on warm sunny days it could be get very hot! We had lots of sun but an intermittent breeze helped cool us.
Our tour guide Eric was knowledgeable, friendly and did a good job.
Overall a very nice experience as part of our visit to Chicago.

Booked this experience last minute to see the sites that downtown Chicago has to offer. The tour was only an hour, but time really flew by. Unfortunately, due to the other passengers having side conversations, I barely was able to hear the guide explain the different buildings and its significance. Overall a great experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour! The host, Eric, did an amazing job with narration with a little humor thrown in. It may have been the best tour I’ve experienced. I would absolutely recommend to family and friends!

The information was great but it was a bit too crowded.. It was nice learning about buildings you don’t normally see.

Great tour guide and tour! The tour was very insightful and taught a bunch about the city that the average person wouldn’t know.
Brenda_B, Jun 2026
The tour guide was awesome! Kept you interested at all times. Depending on time of day you might want a light sweater/ jacket if you run cold. But beside that it was a very insightful tour! Loved it

The tour guide Catherine was great but I give the company a poor review because they continued the tour and would not refund in a huge downpour of rain. There were only 3 people on board, there was heavy rain the entire time and it was cold and miserable and not enjoyable at all. Definitely was not a good experience. I’m sure it cost more to operate the boat than refund the 3 people booked for the tour.

Kevin was so entertaining while sharing his wealth of knowledge about Chicago and its beautiful architecture. He didn't just throw facts at us, instead, explained in a captivating way the style and history of the plethora of buildings along the river. HIGHLY recommend!

The night time Architecture Tour was amazing. The city is so lit up and you can still see all the important detail. I would easily recommend it over a day time tour. Claire the tour guide was super knowledgeable and witty and really enhanced the whole experience.
Marion_S, Jun 2026
We took the 8:30 p.m. cruise and the tour was incredibly informative about the history of Chicago architecture, and Chicago in general. I would highly recommend it. And the weather was perfect!

Josh, The guide was wonderful. He told so many interesting stories about Chicago in addition to the architectural history of the buildings. It was so interesting the time went by quickly. I would definitely recommend your tour.
