What are people saying about Pompeii

Wheelchair Tourist
I use a manual wheelchair full time. The first thing to say is Pompeii is accessible enough and if you can, do a private tour. Your guide will walk you thru the accessible spots and you'll spend less time back tracking. The streets are crowded and our guide worked with the other guides to clear a path whenever we came up to a crowd. You will need some upper body strength to move thru all of pompeii. It was much easier with my Free Wheel that kept my front wheels elevated. Without it a lot of wheelies would be needed.
Second, if you don't use a wheelchair, still get a private tour if you can! We learned so much and the time flew by, guided by Claudia. She had so many interesting stories about the places, the history, and had a passion for it all that was infectious. We did a 3hr tour and we ended arou.d the center of town but did cover a ton in that time. After lunch my wife and I explored on our own, and with the lessons Claudia provided, we could see so much more than if we were on our own all day. It was such an amazing experience!

A fantastic family friendly experience
Pompeii is super busy and I wouldn’t have wanted to attempt the queues with four young children without this tour. Marina was amazing with our kids! She judged their capabilities really well and showed us just the right amount of things within walking distance for them all…four children under nine. Her knowledge was incredible. I couldn’t recommend booking this tour more! Thank you!

This was such a great...
This was such a great experience. It’s a HUGE city and this tour gives you the 2 hour brief highlights (PERFECT for those who lose interest or grow tired beyond a few hours). You get the history and the fun, but since the city is huge, it would be so hard to navigate and enjoy alone. Do this trip!! And our guide, I believe her name was Marilyn & I apologize if I’m incorrect, was so fun and great at her job!! Loved it

Guided tour of Pompeii
A very well-organised tour, with our guide Antonio keeping us informed right up until the beginning of the tour. He lead us around the ruins enthusiastically and with a wealth of knowledge. His sense of humour was an added bonus! We particularly enjoyed seeing the most recent excavations and listening to Antonio’s informative explanations. We would recommend purchasing a Pompeii Plus ticket to access additional parts of the ruins.

This tour was awesome....
This tour was awesome. Our driver was Gianluca and he made the whole trip. He was so nice and helpful. He was domaines things during the drive. We got to see the Amalfi coast and then Pompeii. He also hooked us up with a tour guide in Pompeii who was amazing. He was so funny, knowledgeable and took us to places away from the crowds. He also took pics of our group along the way. This was the best tour of our trip. Highly recommended.
The downside was I did not get my Viator rewards with this booking. Although this had nothing to do with Gianluca or the Pompeii guide.

Highly recommended tour!
Excellent tour! Our group was a bit worn out after touring Herculaneum earlier that day, so we asked Eliana if we could condense our Pompeii visit to 90 minutes. Not only was she flexible, but she also saved the day when I realized I only had a voucher instead of actual tickets. She graciously helped us navigate the ticket office (pro tip: buy directly from the official Pompeii site!) despite the time crunch. Eliana quickly pivoted and curated a 'greatest hits' route that covered every major area. We were especially in awe of the new house and bakery her team is currently excavating—truly fabulous stuff! She is personable, incredibly knowledgeable, and answered every question we had. Highly recommend!

Once-in-a-lifetime experience
This experience was, by far, the most interesting and informative one I have ever participated in. From the moment he picked us up until he dropped us off (9 hours later--which flew by, frankly), our guide Antonino engaged all 4 of us in an interactive discussion of Pompei, Mt. Vesuvius, and Herculaneum. He had amazing graphics and photos on his tablet to provide visual representations and had a warm sense of humor and delight as he explained what we were seeing and answered every question in a clear and accessible way. His passion and knowledge were stellar. As I told him at the end: "This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us and you were a once-in-a-lifetime guide."

Amazing day at Pompeii
My family and I had a great time on our tour of Pompeii with Marily. She is a great guide - very knowledgeable and personable. She showed us interesting highlights and shared a lot of great knowledge throughout the tour. It is clear that she is interested in the history of the area and her enthusiasm made the tour that much more enjoyable for us. I would highly recommend this personal tour to get the most out of a visit to Pompeii.

Pompeii all day with Romolo!
This tour with Romolo was truly incredible, and without a doubt, the absolute highlight of our time in Pompeii!
If you’re visiting Pompeii and have the chance to tour with him, take it. No hesitation.
Romolo was exceptional. His knowledge is deep and fascinating, but what really makes him stand out is how he brings everything to life. You’re not just walking through ruins, you’re stepping into stories, history, and moments that suddenly feel real and vivid.
His energy is contagious, and he has an incredible way with people, especially kids. Keeping children engaged in Pompeii is no easy task, yet he had them completely hooked the entire time. They were curious, excited, and fully immersed from start to finish.
Out of everything we experienced on this trip, this was the tour we’ll be talking about for years. It was engaging, memorable, and genuinely special.
I can’t recommend Romolo highly enough! If you want a Pompeii experience that’s meaningful, dynamic, and unforgettable, he’s your guide.

“I Came, I Climbed, I Conquered!
The hike is absolutely doable—but don’t let that fool you. I made plenty of “strategic” and "photographical" stops along the way 😄. You’re climbing a steady 12% grade for about 20 minutes, with a few short bursts that feel more like 18% just to keep things interesting.
But once you reach the top… wow. Standing at the edge of the crater is one of those moments that makes every step completely worth it.
We had a guide named Mario—super knowledgeable, quick with a joke, and clearly passionate about what he does. If you have the option, definitely ask for him.
The only downside? It was extremely cloudy, so the views were pretty limited. That said, it didn’t take away from the experience. There’s something surreal about standing on a volcano that wiped out entire cities.
All in all, a once-in-a-lifetime experience—one you’ll be proud to say you did (and survived 😁).

Exceptional experience for our family
Our tour guide Lello was exceptional. He brought Pompei to life for my 8 and 10 year old children and my husband and I leant so much to. I cannot recommend this tour enough.
My son finds it hard to focus for long periods of time - Lello understood this without us telling him and delivered the tour in a way which engaged him.

Lello was the best guide!
The tour was amazing. Lello as a guide was perfect. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and interesting. He was like the mayor of Pompeii. Having the perspective from an archeologist made the people of Pompeii come to life. If you can ask for him, do it!

Not seeing something you are looking for?
The enormous expanse of Pompeii is hard to grasp until you see it firsthand, so it can be overwhelming to visit without a good guide. Pompeii private sightseeing tours can be tailored to your specific interests, and they typically come with skip-the-line access to avoid long wait times at the entrance. You can even book a private tour with an archaeologist as your guide to get a unique understanding of the historical significance of the discoveries, as well as the ongoing excavation work. Choose a private sightseeing tour of Pompeii to make the most out of your visit.
