Mom and I decided to have the 1h mask workshop, which was one of the highlights of our trip to Venice. We could have a nice talk with our "coach" who shared about her experience with the Venezuelan carnival, her work over the last years and how passionate she is. It can be helpful to know that the workshop you decide is not just about the time (1h or 2h) but what the value would propitiate to use in your mask as well. For us, it was fine, but if you have some expectations of what to have on your mask and you are not sure if the workshop price you picked covers it, it could be interesting to ask before.
Our masks arrived perfectly after our backway flight.

Venice is actually a very crowded (as well as beautiful) place and this provided a peaceful and happy break from the chaos. It was nice to spend time with a genuine Venetian artisan in a creative activity. Our masks turned out pretty well too! We were two adults and a 9 year old child. It would have been good to get a bit more direction and advice on painting our masks, as it was pretty much just choosing a mask and painting it, and would have been good to hear more about the history and the tradition of masks, but all of us enjoyed this experience anyway. Recommended.

I knew this was going to be fun. My husband and older daughter were not sure. Well they loved it and our masks are beautiful! We had 2 smaller grade school kids. Sonja will help you make your mask beautiful. This was such a great family experience. She and her partner were delightful and fun! So this!

My kids (6 and 8) had so much fun in this workshop, picking a mask, painting it and embellishing it with jewels, feathers and gold leaf decorations. We did the 2 hour workshop and it was the perfect length to complete a fully decorated mask.
We also learned about how the masks are made in molds using special paper mache, and the references in some of the designs. I highly recommend this as a family activity in Venice!

Jack was a patient instructor. I was fortunate to have a one to one workshop experience. I was very happy that I was offered a variety of mask shapes to choose from and was able to select from a choice of paint colours, trims, beads, feathers and gold leaf options. Jack allowed me to adopt traditional designs to my own too.

This was our favorite thing we did in Venice! We had so much fun and Danieli (my apologies if spelled incorrectly) our host was so friendly and patient. We would highly recommend this experience when visiting Venice. Our 10-year-old also says it slayed!

This was a really great experience. Our teacher was very helpful, friendly and patient and gave insight on the history and shapes of different Venice masks. 2 hours went by fast!

We had a great time! Class lasts exactly an hour - perfect amount of time to paint. Not enough time for an added extras though (embellishments, etc) - do the 2 hour class for that.

It didn’t matter that we weren’t great artists as they gave us ideas and showed us examples. We all really enjoyed our time there and were all really proud of our masks. We even came out with a recommendation for dinner which was fabulous.

Oh my gosh, this hands down is one of the best activities I've done ( I travel ALOT). We had so much fun with Giacomo (and Enrico when he popped in). As we were the only two it was a private session which was apt for my mum's birthday. We laughed, I sang, drew badly, made beautiful masks and then signed the walls. I cannot recommend this workshop enough - do it!!!

One of the best experiences we had in Venice. My 8 and 10 year old kids loved it and even my husband was into painting his mask. The instructor was really patient and kind. He helped my son find inspiration for his designs. We felt very special! Grazie!

The owners of shop were so funny and accommodating I can't recommend this class enough. It was a perfect break from the hustle and bustle of our trip. It was perfect for us because we all enjoy crafting and learning the history of the masks was a lesson that I never knew I wanted to learn about! The walk to the shop was just as charming as the shop itself, this class is a just as much of a must as a gondola ride!

This was an amazing experience with Igor. He was super patient, was able to chat with us in French, English and Italian and spoke all languages very well. He gave us tips on how to make our masks really authentic and despite us taking more time than allotted, made us feel at ease and did not rush us. This is a fantastic experience and our 4 kids (3 are teens) loved the experience and said it was a top highlight of our 3 week Italy trip. thanks Igor for making this a fantastic memory!

My daughter and I were fortunate enough to be the only 2 in the class so we had the lesson to ourselves.
There were a great range to masks to choose from and the instructor assisted in drawing some designs on the mask.
We chose the 2 hour class which gave us time to decorate with trim, feathers and crystals. We were shown some great techniques with these.
We even discussed our favourite Tiramisu recipes.
My daughter had a great time and just loves the mask she got to take home!
Would definitely recommend, a great experience and memory for those visiting Venice. 😊

What a wonderful workshop! My 9 yr old daughter saw people decorating masks in a shop as we were walking around Venice and she wanted to do it. Thanks to Viator I found this workshop. We booked it last minute and the shop owner was very nice. One hour was plenty of time to decorate the mask. The staff was very helpful. Would definitely recommend for young children.

I would go back. Host and hostess friendly especially with mixed crowd of adults and young children. Plenty of supplies, helpful to explain how to and keep on timing to finish. Many choices of different masks and I would go back again with family.

Booked this experience after reading a great review by another mom. I booked the 2 hour which was a little more than we needed, but an hour would not have been enough. My kids (ages 9-16) enjoyed choosing and decorating their own mask. My oldest even said "This way more fun than I thought it would be!" which is a high compliment from a teenager. My husband and I had fun too. Jacob was a fun guide who told us about the history of the different masks. He was funny and personable and a great host! Highly recommend this for families who want to do something fun together.

This was a fanastic family experience.
After reading previous reviews, I booked a two-hour session for our family of five (children aged 5, 7 and 9), to make sure we had plenty of time. I was a bit hesitant about the price, but realised that we could easily spend the same on expensive meals out in restaurants which can be challenging with three active children, and decided I would prefer this as a fun family activity. I hoped it would go well, as I never know when my children might announce that they are bored or that everything is boring 😔
From the minute we walked through the door, I realised we had definitely made the right decision.
The entire shop had been prepared for our arrival… a long workbench was all set up with five aprons laid out for us, every shape of mask you could imagine ready for us to choose from, and every shade of paint you could dream of. The children were entranced at first glance.
The first thing they said to us was ‘relax,’ and I immediately felt myself doing exactly that. We had the whole peaceful workshop to ourselves and were given the impression that we had all the time in the world.
Everything was thoroughly prepared and taken care of, and so began an incredible two hours of enjoying time with my family, without having to do any actual parenting.
We were shown a huge selection of mask shapes and were able to choose any mask we wished to decorate. There were hundreds of masks available to copy for inspiration if we wished, or we were able to make up our own designs … complete freedom to do anything creative we wanted.
The team were so flexible in delivering whatever session content we wanted… they asked if we wanted to know the history behind Venetian masks. My 9 year old son immediately perked up and said yes, as he loves history. The history was delivered to us in flawless English at an appropriate level that included the children, stopping to ask my son questions and congratulating him when he knew the answers. He was beaming with pride. I had absolutely no idea that he knew so much about Venetian masks!
We soon became engrossed in creating our masterpieces… no-one moreso than me.
It took me a while to switch off from looking out for my children and trying to help them when they were looking for something, before realising that they were soon comfortable with their ‘art teachers’ and happy to ask them directly for help, leaving me free to create.
It was wonderful to sit with them and join them in creating something so lovely in such a peaceful setting, without any of the admin of setting anything up or finding the materials or tidying or keeping them entertained!
My children all finished with their painting at around the one hour to 1.5 hour mark, after which they were assisted in choosing sequins and feathers to decorate their masks. I was still painting and wondered if I should stop mine in order to entertain them, but the team quickly found them other activities like drawing a picture to go on the wall, and signing the artists wall of fame.
My husband is not known for indulging in arty activities but was totally absorbed in this task, and was then thrilled to see his mask finished off with a gold fabric trim. He was given the choice to try this himself, but opted to hand it over to the professionals at this stage. It looks incredible!
My children started giving me a countdown at the end as I was running out of time, but the team laughed and told me not to worry… they wouldn’t kick me out until it was finished. They helped me accessorise with sequins and feathers, and happily took photographs of the whole family and their art work.
We left feeling enormously proud of ourselves and what we had made… the masks have now all been safely transported back to the UK and are going up on display. The children have already asked if we can go back to Venice to do the exact same thing again!
Wonderful family experience and I would happily do it again.

This was one of the best things we did while in Venice. They were all very friendly, helpful and informative. My husband who has little artistic talent ended up creating a brilliant mask that he was proud of. We did a 2 hour workshop which gave us a decent amount of time and we could choose from a variety of different mask shapes. FYI there is no toilet so go beforehand! If I return to Venice I would definitely do this again.
