I had a very good time learning about the culture and how to make mochi with my son, they were very cute and tasty! Thank you for showing us in your home.

My husband and 6 year old daughter had the best time with Sakura San learning more about the Japanese culture and making mochi/daifuku. The location is easily accessible and just a short walk from the train in a beautiful neighborhood. Sakura San was so patient with our daughter who absolutely loved the class. We made four delicious treats and were able to take them back with us so we could enjoy them later although our 6 year old ate hers up pretty quickly:) Have an even greater appreciation for the artistry behind Japanese sweets and so grateful to have had Sakura San as our teacher. A great experience and would highly recommend this class!

My daughter and I had a really good time making the mochi deserts. Sakura-san is super sweet and very attentive to our needs. Overall a very enjoyable experience and we are looking forward to bringing other family members back to her class. Choco (their cute dog) was an added plus!

I had the most wonderful experience in the Mochi-making class at Hello Japan! This class offers a unique, hands-on introduction to traditional Japanese desserts, especially mochi and wagashi, and it’s hosted by the incredible Sakura. From the moment I arrived, Sakura made me feel welcome and comfortable. Her hospitality is unmatched—she truly has a warm and inviting presence that makes the class feel so special.
Sakura’s knowledge and passion for Japanese culture and dessert-making are evident in every step. She patiently guided me through each detail. She explained the significance behind each ingredient and step, adding so much depth to the experience.
The mochi and matcha were both delicious, and learning to make them from scratch was so rewarding. I now feel confident enough to try these recipes at home, thanks to Sakura’s encouragement and thorough teaching.
If you’re looking for an authentic, fun, and educational experience, this class is perfect! Thank you, Sakura, for such an unforgettable and sweet experience.

This was really one of the best bookings I made on my trip to Japan. I tried another sweets making class with tons of tourists and it utterly paled in comparison to this class with Sakura! It is tremendously generous of her to welcome people into her own home to get a totally immersive experience of Japanese culture. With Sakura, you'll not only learn how to make the cutest nerikiri, but also relevant Japanese phrases, kanji, customs, all in the comfort of a beautiful, homey environment. She also turned all of our pictures and videos into an adorable Instagram reel. Simply the best!

This experience was so fun. The lesson is foreigner friendly as well. We came as a group of five and this lesson was a highlight of our trip. We made 3 different types of mochi: two types of strawberry daifuku, and shaved ice with dango and match syrup. The instructor Sakura is such a nice person and has a cute dog as well. If you have the time, I would definitely recommend taking this mochi lesson where you can learn about mochi, make mochi, and eat it!

We had a wonderful time learning to make our Mochi sweets. Our host was very welcoming, as well as patient and encouraging with our efforts, which we were able to enjoy at the end of the session with the tea she made for us. With our host's excellent teaching skills, we were able to make sweets to a very good standard for first timers!
What was especially nice about our session was how relaxing it was to make the sweets as we learned from our host about their cultural place in Japanese life and the celebrations that different kinds of sweets are made for.
Though we had eaten all the sweets we had made during our session, we left our host with recipes and instructions for making more sweets when we get home, so we'll be able to apply our learning and enjoy practising our technique again and again!

This was an amazing class with a very knowledgeable guide! She not only walked through the steps of making multiple mochi in a beginner friendly way, but she was extremely knowledgeable in Japanese history and culture as well as the local area making our experience very enriching. Could not recommend this enough!
