Interesting Tour with Some Caveats

The Hidden Gems & Rome Catacomb Semi Private Tour was a great way to see some of Rome's lesser-known sites, including the keyhole, city landscapes, and beautiful fountains. However, be aware that the guide does not accompany you into the catacombs, and there is an additional fee to enter. If you're hoping to see bones, this isn't the tour for you, as the bones have been removed due to past thefts. These catacombs are where Christians were buried for centuries, and the historical significance is still very much present. Overall, a good tour with some important details to keep in mind.

What a wonderful off beaten path tour. I really enjoyed the different sites and hearing about the history. We saw the famous keyhole and it was amazing. The tour guide was extremely knowledgable and friendly.

Great experience. Our guide took us to see many hidden gems we would not have discovered on our own. Perfectly time to see the cannon fire. The catacombs were great as well.

The guide picked us up right at 9 which was nice, there were only 4 people in total. The van was nice and had AC. He took us to a few places that were out of the way and explained the significance although most of it was driving by. He did take us to the highest point to take some pictures over Rome that was cool and we did get to watch a cannon blast ( did t catch the significance) they do every day at 2. When it came to the Catacombs he dropped us off and said he would be back in 45 min. When we went to buy the tickets ( not included) they said the next tour was at 11:30, it was only 10;20. Thankfully he was at the van and we were able to catch up to him. He made some calls and took us to another set of Catacombs but kinda did the same thing, dropped us off and said he will get us at the end. This tour is described as ,semi private tour with Max of 8 people, we were in a huge group of 30. We walked around.foe about 20 min and then it was over. This was really disappointing.

Thanks for your feedback, it seems that you didn't read the description of the tour because we mention that the tour of the catacomb is giving by guides from the catacomb and you would join a bigger group to do that part of the tour but for the rest of the tour it was only 4 of you. the tour at the catacomb it can't be 20 minutes, it's a standard tour for 45-60 minutes and it's giving by the guides from the catacomb itself.

Ended the tour feeling short-changed

I felt totally short-changed by this tour. There was no walk along the Appian Way, the Pyramid was a drive past and the hidden key was so hidden that we didn't see it. We basically went to the catacombs then spent an hour and a half driving around Rome ending up at Capitoline Hill. The guide was very knowledgeable but my teenaged kids were bored out of their minds. The guide also made some comments which could have been taken as very offensive by some people.

Thanks Nicki_L for your feedback and we're sorry to hear your disappointment. But if you have read the itinerary carefully, you would see that a walk along the Appian way is not part of it, you have visited the site and your guide told you about its history and that’s what’s included in the tour. In this tour timing is very important and in each site we spend an exact time, so we can end the tour at 12:00 where there’s a little surprise for our travelers. So we can’t go for a walk on Appian way. You have visited the keyhole but didn’t stop to look because there were a big line. Your guide was very knowledgeable but not for your teenagers, still your husband have enjoyed the tour very much as you told us yourself in the message you sent us before you place your review, but yet you didn’t mention that in your review!! The guide made some comments that could be offensive to some people, we can't really get into that as we don't know what kind of comments that was and what could be offensive to some people and what is not offensive to other. we think that's a matter of personal point of views. Our best regards!

What an amazing experience! It was only us, so had a private chauffer that drove us round all these amazing hidden beautiful areas! The key hole was just a wow moment! You would need to take the tour to find out what I mean 💜 guide and driver was amazing, told stories, took photos for us, bought us a hot drink when we waited for the cannon to fire. Honestly it's brilliant! Can't recommend enough!

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. I wasn’t sure what the hidden gems would be, and I won’t spoil them here, but you get off the path of the regular tourist things and get a look into local life. We got to see meaningful places to Rome, including the wall to the walled city and the oldest highway, and ended with a gorgeous view from the hills and a literal cannon shot. I 10/10 recommend this tour. Our group was very small- 4 people.

Special gems of Rome less crowded and touristy. Catacombs were great.

We were very lucky to be the only ones that booked for this tour on this day. Andrea was fantastic. He customised the tour to suit us and we got to see things we had not seen. His local knowledge was excellent. The catacombs were facinating and creepy but worth the visit. Rome from the top of the hill was just amazing.

Mauro was great he spent the time explaining buildings all over rome so we understood where we were and how to get to places better. he took us to the key hole which we forgot about.

Be aware if you have ANY issues with travel etc. and not due to your own fault, they will NOT work with you. They hold tight to the policy of 24 hours notice to cancel. EXTREMELY so. We had mechanical issues, put on different flights, family of 11 travelling including and 11 month old from the states to Rome. Then Luggage lost. I tried for a refund or at least please change the time, day or give a credit, partial, anything. One person said let me talk to my manager. She finally came =back and said she was unable to reach her manager and before I knew it, she just flatly said our policy is no refunds less than 24 hours before. I said wait, you were just trying to talk to your manager to see what could possibly be done. You sure flipped. I called back. No, nothing. Can you please change the time, day something? $283.00 is a lot to just loose. She said they would try and e-mail me. NEVER heard a single word. We did other tours. Not totally unhappy with them but not happy that they could not, would not do anything. I understand people do not tell the truth however I offered to provide evidence. Will I use them again, No. Here is why. I cannot predict what might happen traveling. I cant say I will be able to cancel in time considering there were many other issues at hand that were far more pressing at the time. There are other companies to go through. Had they been more willing and considerate in stressful situations to try and offer some any consolidations, maybe. There were many other tours that were modified and or canceled within the allotted time.

Thanks Lesley for your feedback, the fact is that you see things just from your side, the policy of 24 hours notice to cancel is an excellent cancellation policy in favor of the client, there’s many travel agents that adopt the policy of no refund in case of cancellation one week before tour starts. When a client cancel with such a short notice the travel agents have costs that still have to pay for (guides, drivers, tickets..etc) , so clients cannot pretend it’s their right to cancel less than 24 hours notice and to have a refund, your flight had a mechanical issues, air companies had insurance that cover such issues and any refunds that travelers may ask in case of delays, you should try to ask them for a refund, it’s their fault in the first place.
