Outstanding experience. Wish we got to ride more on the snowmobile. The snow was soft and powdery. You could def go fast up to 45km at one time, but you have to follow the line.

Snowmobiling across a glacier is an awesome experience. It was beautiful and incredulous all at the same time. I was a little sad that we were notified a few days before that the ice cave portion of the adventure was not accessible. I was really looking forward to that. Either way…. Amazing adventure in the land of fire and ice!

Our guide was fantastic!...

Lori_I, Apr 2026
Our guide was fantastic! The walk to the caves took about 15 minutes. The cave in the pictures is no longer open (closed in December 2025), but they showed us others.

I went out of my comfort zone and loved it!

Melissa_F, Mar 2026
I packed a lot of unnecessary clothing for my trip to Iceland. They provided a very warm snow suit, helmet, gloves and boot covers. Half of what I packed was unnecessary for this adventure.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you for your helpful feedback! We're so glad the provided gear—a warm snow suit, helmet, gloves, and boot covers—kept you comfortable and meant you could leave half your packed clothes behind. That's exactly why we supply top-quality equipment for the glacier conditions! It saves space in your luggage and lets you focus on the adventure. Thanks for sharing this tip—it helps future travelers pack smarter. We'd love to welcome you back for more Icelandic thrills anytime! Best regards, The Mountaineers of Iceland Team

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Hello Kittu Thank you for your fantastic review! We're thrilled you had an outstanding experience snowmobiling on Langjökull glacier—the soft, powdery snow and those incredible views really make it special. We appreciate your feedback about wishing for more riding time; our tours balance safety with fun, and while the guides adapt routes and pace to conditions (including following the lead line for safety in variable snow), we always aim to maximize enjoyment within the allocated time. Hitting up to 45 km/h is a great thrill when the conditions allow! Your kind words mean so much to the Mountaineers of Iceland team. We'd love to welcome you back for another glacier adventure—perhaps even trying our faster-paced options next time! Best regards, Mountaineers team

Not as easy as it looks but we still loved it

gracecastells, Jun 2025
My daughter and I started out tipping the snowmobile over, then I started driving but was going too slowly. The guides were very kind though, and in the end my daughter and I each wound up getting taken to the ice cave by a guide. My son was doing it himself and had a fabulous time. It requires a surprising amount of upper body strength! Maybe because it was May and conditions were a bit slushy/icy, or with two of us too much weight. The ice cave was really incredible! Overall we had a great time despite our snowmobile ineptitude, and the guides were all very kind and helpful.

Response from Host, Jun 2025

Dear Grace Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience with Mountaineers of Iceland! We’re so glad to hear that you and your daughter had a memorable adventure, even with a few snowmobile mishaps - those just make for great stories! 😄 It’s fantastic to know our guides were kind and supportive, ensuring you both felt comfortable and got to enjoy the incredible ice cave with their help. We’re thrilled your son had a blast powering through on his own, too! Snowmobiling can definitely be a workout, especially in those May slushy/icy conditions, but it sounds like you all embraced the challenge and had an amazing time. We truly appreciate your kind words about our team and can’t wait to welcome you back for more unforgettable moments in Iceland! Best regards, Einar

Hello Claire Thank you for your wonderful review! We're thrilled to hear that you had such a memorable experience and that Oliver made it fun for you. It’s great to know that you enjoyed the small group setting and found the warm gear helpful. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back for another adventure in the future! Not worth it at all

Aron_B, Feb 2025
I purchased the ice cave and snowmobile and was not told the ice cave was not possible. I would appreciate a refund.

Response from Host, Feb 2025

Hi Aron, We're sorry to hear about your experience. The ice cave portion of the tour is sometimes subject to weather and safety conditions, and we always strive to inform our guests as soon as possible if changes need to be made. We understand how disappointing this must have been for you. Please contact our customer service team directly so we can review your booking details and discuss possible solutions, including a refund if applicable. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to make things right.

Ice Cave canceled

Renata_P, Feb 2025
Ice cave tour was canceled way before we booked the tour but we were not informed about that. The snowmobile piece is super cool, but not easy at all. You need to be strong to hand it. The view from the top of the mountain is breathtaking!

Response from Host, Feb 2025

Hi Renata, Thank you for sharing your experience. We sincerely apologize that you weren't informed in advance about the ice cave part being unavailable. We always strive to keep our guests updated, and we regret any miscommunication regarding your tour. We’re glad to see that you enjoyed the snowmobiling experience and the incredible views from the top! It’s definitely an adventure that requires some physical effort, and we appreciate you highlighting that for future travelers.

Amazing experience for all!

Hannah_C, Feb 2025
This was an amazing trip for me and my family. Although the whether was pretty rough, it was still a great experience. We got around 30 minutes each driving (1 person on ride out, 1 on return) which felt like plenty of time. Ice cave wasn’t mentioned so if this is a massive selling point for you there may be other options, however we enjoyed so much we forgot this was part of it ahah. It’s a 45 minute drive to the bast camp in a super jeep which was a cool extra!

Response from Host, Feb 2025

Dear Hannah Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're delighted to hear that you and your family had an amazing trip, despite the challenging weather conditions. It’s great to know that you enjoyed the snowmobiling experience and found the driving time to be just right. We appreciate your feedback regarding the ice cave mention and will take it into account for clearer communication in the future. That said, we’re so glad you were having such a great time that it didn’t impact your overall experience! The super jeep ride to the base camp is indeed a special part of the adventure, and we're happy you found it to be a cool extra. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure in the future! Best regards, Einar

Missed the cave

Nikoel_C, Sep 2024
Did not get to see the ice cave. Was disappointing but understandable. Did not seem that our time was extended since we didn’t get to do the ice cave. On the contrary we actually felt more rushed for time than anything. The ride itself and time for pictures was fun. The guides were helpful and nice

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Hello Nikoel The ice cave part of the tour was cancelled due to melting conditions in the cave. Our staff should have told you that the ice cave part was cancelled. We apologize for the inconvenience Best regards, Einar Mountaineers of Iceland

So much fun!!

hjn2pg5q2r, May 2024
Great time. Kris was a great guide the entire staff was friendly and everything organized. We did the ice cave. It was amazing to be in the glacier.

Response from Host, Jun 2024

Hello Thank you so much for this fantastic review Glad to read that our guides were friendly and everything was organized Best regards, Einar

Excellent excursion

Joseph_K, May 2024
Great staff, good coordination and phenomenal scenery. We had a blast. And would highly recommend this excursion for anyone looking for a once in a lifetime experience.

Response from Host, Jun 2024

Dear Joseph Thank you so much for this excellent review! You chose a good time to go snowmobiling May is low season and conditions for snowmobiling are best in this month Best regards, Einar

Favorite part of the trip!

Justin_G, Apr 2024
This was an excellent adventure. Gorgeous scenery, the ice cave was good, not natural but man-made. But it was still super cool to see. My husband and I took our 4 boys. Ages 7-17 and they all absolutely loved it.

Response from Host, Apr 2024

Hello Justin Think you for this positive review. Man-made ice caves are safer than natural ice caves. We put emphasis on maintaining it throughout the winter I am glad to read that the boys loved the tour! Best regards, Einar

No fuss, all fun!

Claire_W, Feb 2024
No fuss, friendly staff, transported and kitted up then straight on the snowmobiles. There was no long winded safety brief, just to the point and let's go! The heated handle bar grips were an unexpected bonus. The ice cave was basic but interesting at the same time. We had our 10 year old with us and would highly recommend this trip.

Response from Host, Mar 2024

Dear Claire Thank you so much for your positive review. We really are very happy that you had a great time! I agree that long safety briefings before tours can be boring and even anxiety inducing. We try to give brief lessons. It is not good to get too much information before tours like this We are aware that the ice cave is quiet basic. It is man made and we put emphasis on safety rather than pure beauty Best regards, Einar Mountaineers of Iceland

Very disappointing

Erin_E, Dec 2023
After an hour long ride to the base camp with no guide explaining the surroundings, we finally arrived to get in our snowsuits and go snowmobiling. We were only given one snowmobile even though we thought we would each have one. The snowmobiling only lasted about 45 minutes. So expensive for such a short time and for sharing a snowmobile. My main reason for booking was to see the ice cave. No mention of the ice cave was given to us at any time. Once we returned to Gullfoss, I inquired and was told we didn’t have time to see it. Extremely disappointed!

Meh

lucy_p, Dec 2023
Snow mobiling was fun itself but noticed the staff were really mardy and rude with people who made mistakes when learning how to snow mobile, I don’t know why you’d work in this job if you’re going to have such little patience for tourists who are obviously going to make these mistakes. Made the experience difficult to enjoy. Drove the snow mobiles for 30 min, 10 min break, 30 min drive back and then ushered back on the bus and back to the drop off. Absolutely no sign of an ‘ice cave’ which is 50% of the reason we booked, asked and was told not today..

Response from Host, Feb 2024

Dear Lucy, I'm very sorry to hear about the behaviour of our staff during the tour. Communication and politeness should have been better during this tour. I will let our management know about your criticism. We value your criticism and we will make sure to learn from this Ice Cave visit is not guaranteed as it is dependent on weather. If the ice cave part is cancelled clients are eligible to get a ISK 5000 refund per adult Best regards, Einar Mountaineers of Iceland

Not worth the cost

N_C, Dec 2023
Unbelievably expensive for what is essentially a 45 minute snowmobile experience. You’ll spend approx 15 minutes standing around a very small and underwhelming cave. You will need to share your snowmobile, which is completely outrageous given the price you pay AND that they just simply do not make that clear when booking. Personally, I do not think it was worth it and feel a little cheated.

Was a great experience,...

Keith_M, Nov 2023
Was a great experience, trip up to base camp could have been better if bus windows were clean and you could see out off them. Equipment and overalls all in good shape, but when up getting snowmobile we were only given 1 per 2 adults, so we had to share. We both paid the full amount when others got 1 snowmobile to themselves which we feel was unfair. All staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Defo worth doing just very expensive when having to share.

Awesome trip.

Monika_B, Nov 2023
First time snowmobiling. The scenery was insane beautiful. The snowmobile was easy to operate. We took our kids with us, they were so happy. You can bring your camera, but it’s best to have hand free since you will need your hands for the driving. Watch the puddles in the ice cave and bring warm shoes. They provide everything else.

Disappointing

Julia_B, Nov 2023
Quite disappointed. The actual time spent driving of the snowmobile seemed very short, although you wouldn't really want any longer as it's really hard work, you are constantly fighting with the handle bars. Taken on a trail that was already well used and quite bumpy. I expected to zoom across virgin flat snow, so this was a huge disappointment. The snow cave is man made, but was still very interesting, clear see through ice and you can see the lines that make up each year of growth, like the circles in a tree trunk. I'm glad I have driven a snowmobile, but it's quite expensive and definitely wouldn't do it again or recommend.

THIS WAS 100% the best part

Jenny_L, Nov 2023
Nov 2023- I was nervous bc of the mixed reviews. We went at 14:00 and it was the best time, roughly 3 hours roundtrip! I touched a glacier, went into a ice cave, and rode a snowmobile for the first time. There were about 18 people on 10 machines. I'm a 3XL and had no issues with the gloves or body suit. Call or message ahead to see how many people are going to be in your trip if you are concerned about the size of the group.

No experience necessary!!!

Lynn_L, Nov 2023
Had a great time!!! None of us had ever been on a snowmobile before and it was very simple to operate them! Gear was great and we felt really warm! Sniper was our guide and he was knowledgeable, informative, and patient.

Response from Host, Nov 2023

Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for giving us a perfect rating! We're thrilled to hear that your first snowmobile experience with us was a great success and that you found the operation of the snowmobiles simple and enjoyable. It's also fantastic to know that the gear kept you comfortably warm throughout the adventure. A special thanks for acknowledging Sniper, your guide. We're proud to have knowledgeable and patient guides like him on our team, and we'll be sure to pass along your compliments to him. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure soon, and thank you again for choosing Mountaineers of Iceland for your snowmobile experience! 🌟

Great tour! Beautiful glacier. Small horrible cave.

Andrea_V, Nov 2023
This was a great experience. However the ice cave was small dirty and man made not anything like what I imagined. If you want to see the blue natural tunnels book a different tour. Would still recommend the snow mobiling but would have been more fun if we rode longer and we didn’t even see the cave. All around felt well taken care of and had a good time.

Response from Host, Nov 2023

Thank you for your review and for recommending our snowmobiling experience! We're delighted to hear that you felt well taken care of and had a good time. We appreciate your feedback regarding the ice cave. It's important to clarify that the ice cave in our tour is indeed a man-made structure, designed to offer a unique yet safe way to experience the icy environment of Iceland. The color of the ice is influenced by the conditions of the day, this is true for all icecaves. Our cave is meant to provide a consistent and controlled experience, especially for those who might not be able to access more remote natural ice caves. We understand that it might not be what everyone imagines, and we'll take your thoughts into consideration to improve our communication about this feature in the future. Your insights are invaluable to us, and we hope to welcome you back on another tour, perhaps one that includes the natural ice tunnels you're interested in. Thank you again for choosing Mountaineers of Iceland, and we're glad to have been a part of your adventure.

Snow Mobile + Ice Cave

Zedekiah_M, Nov 2023
Fun experience. Short drive for the $$$. Well organized and equipment given is suitable for the temperature and ruggedness of the snow mobile. Ice cave isn’t ground breaking experience.

Response from Host, Nov 2023

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We're glad to hear that you found the snowmobile adventure well-organized and that the equipment provided was suitable for the conditions. Regarding the ice cave, it's worth noting that it is a unique, man-made feature, crafted to offer a safe and accessible way to experience the wonder of glacial ice. This cave is designed to provide a consistent and controlled environment for visitors. While it might not feel as "groundbreaking" compared to natural formations, it allows for a reliable and safe exploration of an icy wonderland, which is otherwise hard to experience. We appreciate your feedback

Overall good.

Paul_C, Nov 2023
The trip overall was well run with nice people. Felt a bit cheated/underwhelmed at ice "cave", read man made tunnel. Very short and dark, was the 1st day open and had been subject to a collapse. I must remember that we were actually inside a glacier and that should be amazing enough but it wasn't pretty and my snowmobile broke down, but no great shakes as shared with Mrs C. The scenery on the ride up was amazing.

Response from Host, Nov 2023

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with our trip. We're pleased to hear that you found the trip well-run and our team nice. It's always our aim to provide a welcoming and efficient experience for our guests. We understand your feelings regarding the ice cave, particularly if it didn't quite meet your expectations. The dynamic nature of glaciers can indeed impact the appearance and structure of features like ice caves, sometimes leading to situations like the one you experienced. We appreciate your understanding in recognizing the unique aspect of being inside a glacier, though we are sorry it wasn't as visually striking as you had hoped. Regarding the issue with your snowmobile, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We're glad to hear, though, that you were able to continue your experience by sharing with another participant. We always strive to ensure that our equipment is in top condition, but occasionally unforeseen issues can arise. It's great to know that you found the scenery on the ride up amazing. These views are indeed one of the highlights of the trip and we're happy that this aspect was a positive part of your experience. We value your feedback as it helps us to improve our tours and the experiences we offer. We hope to have the opportunity to host you again, perhaps under better circumstances, so we can provide an experience that fully meets your expectations. Safe travels!

Beautiful experience

Melissa_G, Oct 2023
My honey and I really enjoyed this adventure. We didn't get to go to the cave since it was warm but got an extra 30 minutes snowmobiling which was awesome. Beautiful.

Response from Host, Nov 2023

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're delighted to hear that you and your partner enjoyed the adventure, even though the conditions prevented the cave visit. It's fantastic to know that you received an additional 30 minutes of snowmobiling, which added to the awesomeness of the experience, allowing you to explore the beautiful surroundings. We appreciate your positive feedback and hope to welcome you back for more wonderful experiences in the future.

Breathtaking view

Sarah_G, Sep 2023
Your guides were fantastic. We were unable to see the caves due to weather and melting, which was disappointing. The only thing I would recommend would be for a guide to be able to talk about the surrounding area/mountains/volcanoes etc on the drive up. That would be cool

Response from Host, Nov 2023

Thank you for sharing your experience with us, and we're pleased to hear that you found our guides fantastic. We regret that weather conditions prevented the exploration of the caves, resulting in disappointment. Your suggestion regarding providing information about the surrounding areas, mountains, and volcanoes during the drive is excellent. We will consider this and work on enhancing the tour experience by providing more insights about the landscape on future trips. We appreciate your feedback and hope to have the opportunity to provide an even better experience for you in the future.

1a fun. Very well...

candacechopra, Jul 2023
1a fun. Very well organized. It was too warm to go to the ice cave so we got an extended glacier ride instead. The guides were great! Ask how to fill your thermos with the natural glacier water!
