This was a great tour. Guides and staff were helpful and friendly. Glacier experience was great and pretty to see. Just note this is a 4 hour trip. A 40 min bus ride to the glacier, get suited up, ride the snow mobile for about an hour and then return the suits and then the bus ride back.

This tour will give you a chance to ride a snowmobile on ice ( bumpy and not fun vs snow) in the summer but you should know it is zero frills. So don’t expect facts or friendliness. It gets the very basic job done and is one of the only that doesn’t charge to take kids <12 so that is a pro. If I had to do it again, would pick an actual blue glacier ( instead of gray) with snow on the south coast instead. This one is a 45 min dirt road ride away from Gulfoss. Do not feed your credit card info to buy the head gear camera info afterwards- we started seeing transactions in Italy and Singapore & had to close the card.
A 3.5 hours of extreme adrenaline, snow truck followed by one hour of snowmobile ride, weather was great, great adventure
We were excited about the tour after seeing the monster bus parked at the Gullfoss. A friendly employee told us about the trip to the 2nd largest glacier in Europe and the snow mobile experience and we were sold.
However, the experience itself was pretty underwhelming. We were driven to the base, given the overalls and a crash course in snowmobile driving, some of them brokedown on the trip, they took some 15-20 minutes to fix, and then we came back.
The staff were very nice. The drive to the snowmobile site was fun too! This experience was on my mom's bucket list. She is 83, so she brought me along to drive. I had never driven a snowmobile before, so I was nervous, but it was easy. It was a very fun experience that I will remember for a lifetime.
This "adventure" was quite tame. There were about 20 snow machines all in single file that traveled no faster than 5 to 10 mph. If you are looking for some excitement, this is not where you will find it.
Response from Host, Aug 2026
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are sorry to hear that the tour did not provide the level of excitement you were hoping for. While we love a good adventure, safety is always our absolute highest priority. Because glacier terrain can change rapidly and present hidden hazards like crevasses, we keep our groups in a controlled, single-file formation and maintain a moderate speed to ensure everyone makes it across the ice safely. We appreciate your honest perspective, as it helps future travelers choose the right type of experience for their comfort level. We wish you the best on your future travels and hope your next adventure brings you the adrenaline you are looking for!
The best part of this experience was feeling like you were on another planet. It really felt like you were immersed in Iceland and fully taking it in. The snowmobile was a little tricky to steer but the guides were great and quick to handle any situations. We are glad that we did this excursion!
Response from Host, Aug 2026
Thank you so much for the fantastic review! We love hearing that our glacier tour made you feel like you were exploring another planet—that otherworldly landscape is truly what makes Iceland so magical! You are completely right that steering a snowmobile can take a little getting used to, but we are so glad our guides were right there to help you handle it with confidence. Thank you for choosing our excursion, and we hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable adventure in the future! Safe travels!
Not worth $720 for 2 people to ride solo on the snowmobile going 10 mph the entire time, if that. We booked this tour thinking the initial total was 2 solo riders. As soon as we got on our own snowmobile, the guide quickly informed us that all of the bookings were passenger rides only. We asked what the upgrade was to ride solo and he said it was an additional 80 USD per person. After the tour, we were charged 200 USD for the solo rides. After reading several reviews, it seems this is a common occurrence. Very underwhelming tour all together unfortunately!! Their customer service was great - quick to respond on adjusting our booking.
Response from Host, Aug 2026
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sincerely sorry that your experience fell short of your expectations and that you found the tour underwhelming for the price paid. Regarding the pricing discrepancy, we deeply apologize for any confusion or miscommunication that occurred on the glacier. Our standard upgrade from a shared snowmobile to a solo ride is typically a fixed rate, and it is highly concerning to hear that you were quoted one price by your guide and charged a different amount afterward. We take this feedback very seriously and are currently investigating this internally with our team to ensure our on-site pricing information is completely clear and consistent for all guests. We completely understand your frustration regarding the speed of the tour. While we always want our guests to have an exciting ride, our speeds are heavily dictated by glacier safety protocols, weather conditions, and hidden terrain hazards like crevasses. Because safety must remain our absolute highest priority, we operate in a controlled, single-file line. We are glad to hear that our customer service team was quick and helpful in adjusting your booking. Your experience is incredibly important to us, and we appreciate your honesty as it helps us improve. We wish you all the best on your remaining travels.
As mention in the web, snow was expected. Instead we had tour on water and ice. Don’t do it summer..
Response from Host, Aug 2026
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are truly sorry that the tour did not meet your expectations and that you were disappointed by the lack of snow. During the summer months, the warmer temperatures naturally melt the top layer of winter snow on the glacier, exposing the raw glacial ice and creating seasonal meltwater streams. While we try to prepare our guests for these changing seasonal conditions on our website, we completely understand your disappointment if you were hoping for a pristine winter snow landscape. We appreciate your honest review, as it helps future summer travelers know exactly what to expect on the ice during the warmer months. We wish you all the best on the rest of your travels.
Such an incredible experience to be able to snow
Mobile on top of a glacier! (In the summer!)
10/10 recommend for those who want to go on an exciting adventure!
Response from Host, Aug 2026
Thank you so much for the incredible 10/10 review! We are absolutely thrilled that you had such an exciting adventure with us! There really is nothing quite like the unique thrill of snowmobiling on top of a massive glacier—especially during the summer months when the contrast of the landscape is so spectacular. hank you for highly recommending us to other thrill-seekers, and we hope to welcome you back to the ice for another unforgettable ride in the future! Safe travels!
The experience of snowmobile is good and the location is great. However the staff is very adamant and non accomodative. We had booked for 7 people and 1 person was not well but they did not allow us to cancel the activity. Also the staff was playing among themselves and did not help the member for even for small round. You should do this activity with some other agency which is supportive and has good staff.
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Hello,
Thank you for your honest feedback. We are very sorry to hear that you found our staff rigid and unaccommodating; this certainly does not reflect our standards. Please note that we do enforce a strict 24-hour cancellation policy, which means refunds cannot be issued for short-notice cancellations. However, we take your comments about our staff's behavior and lack of assistance very seriously. We will investigate this internally to ensure our guests always receive the high level of service they deserve.

Excellent equipment/clothing they provided did the job. The staff were very friendly and gave good instruction. They were also very patient with those less competent (not me)
The driving can be tiring though.

Very fun experience! Highly recommend this tour. When you get up there, you can’t even see the line between sky and snow, it was all white. Very unique experience! My dad is 70 years old, and he loved it!
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Hello Nan
Thank you so much for the fantastic review! That 'total whiteout' effect where the sky meets the snow is truly a magical, otherworldly sight to witness on the glacier. We are especially thrilled to hear that your 70-year-old dad had such an amazing time! It is wonderful to know our tour brought so much joy to both of you. Thank you for the high recommendation, and we hope to welcome you and your adventurous dad back for another ride soon!

Confusion from ticket—thought we bought two tickets to ride separately but had to pay EXTRA upon arrival. Frustrating miscommunication.
The directions given by group snowmobile leader was brief and not explicit enough. People struggled and it limited my experience.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Hello,
I’m truly sorry to hear that your experience was marred by confusion regarding your booking and the instruction provided on the day.
We aim for total transparency and a seamless adventure, so it’s disappointing to know we missed the mark for you.
I apologize for the frustration caused by the pricing structure. It sounds like there was a misunderstanding regarding our "Double Rider" vs. "Single Rider" options. We try to make these distinctions clear during the checkout process.
Safety and confidence are our top priorities. If the briefing felt rushed or wasn't explicit enough, that is something we take very seriously. Our goal is for everyone to feel fully prepared so they can enjoy the ride to the fullest, and I’m sorry that the struggles of the group impacted your personal experience.
Thank you for helping us improve.
Best regards,
Einar

The transfer to the glacier is an hour, very bumpy and we had low cloud, so could see very little. If you are not a good traveller, worth noting!
You are provided with all the clothing, so nice and warm. You follow the guide in a row, so it is limited and slow! Overall, a little disappointing for the cost
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Hello Bernice,
Thank you for sharing your honest feedback with us. While we are glad you found the provided gear warm and comfortable, we are genuinely sorry to hear that the experience didn't quite live up to your expectations.
The drive to the glacier can indeed be quite rugged! Because we operate in a true wilderness environment, the terrain is often bumpy, and the weather—especially the low cloud cover you experienced—is unfortunately the one thing we can’t control. We appreciate you mentioning this for future travelers, as the visibility plays a huge role in the overall atmosphere.
Regarding the speed and "follow-the-leader" format: safety is our absolute priority, especially when navigating glacial terrain where hidden hazards can exist. However, we understand how this can feel restrictive for those looking for a more high-speed or "free-roaming" adventure.
We aim to provide a premium, all-inclusive service, but we hear your concerns regarding the cost versus the experience. We take this feedback seriously as we are always looking for ways to improve the balance between safety and excitement.
We appreciate your candor, as it helps us manage expectations for future guests. If you're ever back in Iceland, we’d love the chance to welcome you on a clearer day!
Best regards,
Einar

Meeting point was easy find. Driver was very friendly and informative. Snowmobiling was amazing! This is my second time and it still amazes me!
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Hello
Thank you so much for coming back to see us! We are thrilled to hear that even on your second time around, the glacier hasn't lost its magic.
It’s great to know that the meeting point was easy to find and that our driver helped kick off the trip with some friendly, informative conversation. We take a lot of pride in making the logistics as smooth as the ride itself!
We truly appreciate your continued support and can’t wait to welcome you back for round three whenever you're ready for another adventure.
Best regards,
Einar

This tour is WAY over-priced for what you get. The full itinerary is actually: meet at Gullfoss to pack into an oversized 4x4 bus. Once underway, they drive you 45-50 minutes to the starting point. Spend about 10 minutes getting suited up, another 10 minutes with snowmobile operating instructions, then head out in a single file line on the snowmobiles never doing more than 30km/h (most of the time spent at about 20 kph) for about 20 minutes. They then give you about 8-10 minutes off the snowmobile to fool around in the snow (not driving the snowmobiles, but on foot), then 20 minutes slowly driving back to the starting point. Undress, load back into the 4x4 bus and 45-50 minute bus ride back to Gullfoss. So you lose about 3-4 hours of your day just to slowly drive a snowmobile at jogging speed in a single file line. There are 60-70 people per bus, so imagine trying to keep everyone in a single file line while going at a slow 20 kph pace. It was 20 minutes of go slow...stop, wait for everyone to pack tight...go slow...stop....repeat. Definitely not worth $260.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Hello Chris
Thank you for taking the time to provide such a detailed breakdown of your experience. We truly value honest feedback, even when it’s difficult to hear, as it helps us see the tour from our guests' perspective.
I am genuinely sorry to hear that the pace and structure of the day felt frustrating rather than adventurous. It sounds like the "stop-and-start" nature of the large group and the transit time didn't align with the experience you were looking for, especially given the price point.
Because we operate on a glacier, the travel time in our specialized 4x4 vehicles is necessary to reach the safe snow zones, but we understand that two hours of transit for the amount of riding time provided can feel unbalanced.
Additionally, when we have large groups, safety protocols often require a single-file line and a controlled speed (typically around 20–30 km/h) to ensure everyone remains on the safe, surveyed path and to avoid accidents. However, we hear you loud and clear: for an experienced or more adrenaline-seeking traveler, this can feel far too slow.
Your feedback regarding the "go slow and stop" rhythm is something we will discuss with our operations team. We are constantly looking for ways to improve the flow of our larger tours to minimize waiting time and maximize the feeling of movement.
For future visits to Iceland, we often recommend our Private or Small Group tours for guests who prefer more speed, flexibility, and a much higher "ride-to-wait" ratio.
We appreciate you giving us a try, and we are sorry that we missed the mark on this occasion. Thank you again for your candor.
Best regards,
Einar

An incredibly fun ride through such a beautiful place! The snowmobiles were in great condition and easy to operate.

Hello Jessica,
Thank you so much for the great review! We are delighted to hear that you had an incredibly fun ride with us.
We take a lot of pride in maintaining our fleet, so it’s wonderful to know you found the snowmobiles in top condition and easy to handle. There really is no better way to experience the beauty of the glacier than from behind the handlebars!
We hope to see you back on the snow again soon for another adventure.
Best regards,
Einar
One of our favorite experiences in Iceland. The glacier feels like another planet and zooming around on the snow mobiles is such a fun and unique experience. If you book for two you will share a snow mobiles but you get the opportunity to sway halfway, which also gives you both a turn to look around and enjoy the surroundings.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Hello Catherine,
Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We are thrilled to hear that snowmobiling was one of your favorite experiences during your time in Iceland.
The glacier really does have that "otherworldly" feel, and there is no better way to explore it than by zooming across the ice! We’re also glad you enjoyed the shared snowmobile setup. Switching drivers halfway is the perfect way to ensure everyone gets a taste of the adrenaline and a chance to sit back and soak in those surreal, 360-degree views.
We appreciate you sharing your experience, and we hope to see you back on the glacier again someday!
Best regards,
Einar

The trip was incredible and I really enjoyed the whole experience! Our original time got cancelled due to weather warnings but the team were very helpful at resolving this and offering the earlier slot. We did get stuck out in the snow for a while but this was bound to happen with the weather conditions and we all got back safely and only around an hour and a half later than expected.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Hello Emily
Thank you for your wonderful review! We're so glad the trip turned out to be incredible for you despite the initial weather cancellation—we really appreciate your understanding and flexibility with the earlier slot! Sorry about the extra time stuck in the snow, but we're relieved everyone got back safely and that it didn't overshadow the amazing experience. Our team always prioritizes safety first in those conditions. Thanks again for joining us—we'd love to welcome you back for clearer skies and more glacier magic next time!

Was a great once in a lifetime experience. The guides were professional and friendly. They made us feel safe with them. However I seriously underestimated how difficult the snowmobiles were to manage. Upper body strength is a requirement to handle the machine. I was totally drained at the end of the ride.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Hello Michael
Thank you for your honest and thoughtful review! We're so glad this was a great once-in-a-lifetime experience for you and that our guides made you feel safe and well looked after—they're the heart of what we do! We really appreciate you sharing about the physical demands of the snowmobiles; it's true they require good upper body strength, especially when turning in deeper snow, and we always want guests to feel prepared. Thanks again for joining us—we hope the memories outweigh the workout, and we'd love to welcome you back anytime!

Fantastic snowmobiling activity. We were a family of 4. Drove to Gulfoss waterfall meeting point. Seemless, fun transfer on the monster bus to the glacier.
Unique experience with fantastic views whilst on the glacier.
Worth taking drinks and snacks as roughly an hour to the base camp and back again.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Hello Louise,

We're delighted to hear the seamless transfer on our monster truck felt fun, and that the unique views on Langjökull glacier made it a standout experience for all four of you. Great suggestion about bringing drinks and snacks for the roughly hour-long ride to base camp and back—it's always helpful for keeping energy high! Your kind words mean a lot to the Mountaineers of Iceland team. We hope to welcome your family back for more glacier thrills soon.

Myself, my husband and our 6 year old son had the most amazing experience
We had a 2pm slot so caught the sun setting. The views from the top was incredible.
Only downside was the truck we was in for the transfer slipped and tipped, terrifying us. And we all had to get off 1 by 1 to allow the driver to get it back upright. He assured us this was normal and can happen. But for first time explorers we was very scared. But soon forgotten about afterwards.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Hello Jennifer,
Thank you so much for sharing your amazing family experience with us—it's wonderful to hear that the 2pm slot let you catch the stunning sunset views from the top of Langjökull glacier, making it truly unforgettable for you, your husband, and your 6-year-old son! We're truly sorry to hear about the scary moment during the monster truck transfer when the vehicle slipped and tipped. While these vehicles are designed for the challenging terrain and incidents like this are rare (and our drivers are highly trained to handle them safely), we completely understand how frightening it must have been, especially as first-time visitors and with a young child. Your feedback is invaluable, and we'll share it with our operations team to ensure we continue prioritizing safety and guest reassurance. Thankfully, the rest of the adventure overshadowed that brief scare, and we're so glad the incredible scenery and overall experience left you with such positive memories. Your kind words mean a lot to the Mountaineers of Iceland team—we'd love to welcome your family back for more safe, magical Icelandic adventures in the future!
Best regards,
Mountaineers team
Great experience honestly. You only have about an hour and some change on the snowmobile but it’ll be the best hour of your life. And the guides are very helpful.

Your words mean a lot to the whole Mountaineers of Iceland team! We'd love to welcome you back for more glacier adventures anytime.

This experience easily stood out as one of the best parts of our time in Iceland. From start to finish it felt incredibly well run, relaxed and genuinely special.
The conditions on the day were perfect, which made being out on the glacier even more impressive. The landscape was unreal and we came away with some truly stunning photos. For those in our group who were new to snowmobiling, everything was clearly explained and easy to get to grips with, so it felt exciting without ever being intimidating.
The guides were friendly, attentive and struck a great balance between keeping things safe and letting everyone enjoy the experience properly. We were also fortunate to be in a smaller group, which I think made a huge difference — it felt more personal and unhurried compared to some of the larger tours you hear about.
All in all, an unforgettable experience and one I wouldn’t hesitate to do again.
Response from Host, Feb 2026

This was the highlight of our Iceland trip. The weather was wonderful, the tour guides were friendly and helpful, the snowmobiles were easy for the beginners in our group, and the glacier and landscape was beautiful. We had an amazing time and took the most beautiful pictures. A must see for everyone in Iceland.
