Tour guide was great but the rest of the experience was awful. Hotel ended up being in sorrento instead of Naples and they said $30 more for pick up. Ok, no problem, but when pick up was there they needed cash, which wasn’t mentioned. The driver, who was rude and obviously mad at us for not having cash, stopped at three different places to ensure he had the cash which all could have been done at the location we were dropped off at, which was active with people to get change when we were done with the atm. Sorrento was kind of shut down. It was embarrassing to say the least. The drive there he drove crazy, and made everyone sick, and I never get motion sickness. I’ll also add we were in the area for five days and had been driven all over the hills to demonstrate how terrible he navigated the area. We get there and see one body from Pompeii, so essentially the three hour documentary I watched 20 years ago was way more enlightening than physically being there. The full tour felt more interested in tourist trapping people than giving us the history enlightenment we all were there for. I have used viator for multiple tours and experience during my three weeks around Italy, so maybe this was good and the others were beyond amazing, or this sucked. I give the three stars for the guide herself because she was very informational, and easy to talk to.

The tour was organized, and the meet up was smooth. The only complaint is that tour guide was very hard to understand, and the headsets provided were very fuzzy. We enjoyed the tour, but we missed out on a lot of information.

Pompeii was amazing, we liked that we had headsets to hear the guide. She took us to amazing parts of the site. We wished we could have seen more. The transportation was chaotic. The bus we were on met up with other buses creating chaos to where we needed to go. On leaving the site we encountered a monsoon rain and the guide rushed down the hill so fast we could not keep up with the group and waited around in torrential rain looking for our bus or guides. Very unorganized.

Margherita was an excellent guide, and gave a very thorough tour, full of history and the lifestyles of the people of Pompeii! It was amazing to see the unearthed ruins, and how extensive they are…in 2 hours, we covered barely 20% of the city. Definitely a great shore excursion!

Our guide was such fun and knowledgeable. He waited for us to all catch up he allowed time for photos. He knew the places to take a good photo. We learnt so much from our guide. Pompeii is being restored beautifully to share the experience of what was and what happened there with the world. Wear comfortable walking shoes, have a hat, sunscreen, water and clothes suitable for hot days and be prepared for the crowds. Well worth taking the tour.

We have been using Viator services several times before in different countries, and all of them were solid, professional, five-star rating until this Naples trip. If there is zero rating, that will be our score because of chaotic transportation, zero professionalism by the tour leader, poor quality, a 3.5-4 hour trip, became more than five hours which directly affected our afternoon visit plan, time was wasted, we were shocked with the drastic decline of the quality of Viator' service. Just a few concrete examples based on our experience: poor quality. No more small group (our previous Victor trips were all transported by Mercedes Benz from a parking lot), this time we were all waiting on the street outside of the port gate, picked up by a big bus. No more professional tour guide. First of all, we were told we will be meeting a tour guide holding a Viator blue welcoming sign, this never happened, we were all standing outside the port gate wondering where is Visitor transportation. The tour leader was late, holding no sign, our scheduled departure time is 9:45am, at 10am she was still looking for people who haven't showed up. Then the driver was late. Chaotic organization: during our half a day tour, we were "handed" by at least 4-5 different people. This's not only confusing to the guests, but also extremely inefficient from a business standpoint. In our previous Viator tours, there is only local driver and a local guide, the guide would start sharing information about the city, history and the culture on our way to the tourist attraction. Not happening in this trip, the so called tour leader, didn't say a word about the local information on our way to Pompeii, on the way back, she was chatting with the driver entire trip. She's merely a coordinator of transportation The only person doing an OK job was the tour guide. Before booking with Viator, I noticed many negative reviews about Victor subcontracting out it's service and ending up with poor service quality, I ignored them because of our previous excellent experiences with Victor. After our terrible experience this time with Viator, we're very sad to see that Viator is no longer our trusted tourist company with style, professional tour guide and efficient/well organized operation. May be it's time for us to say good bye to Viator.

Was a good tour but the bus was late arriving and stopped to pick up more guests. The buds guide was not very good but the Pompeii park guide was quite good.

Very well organized tour. Met outside of our port at the reserved time and drove to Pompeii. Once we were there, we got given an ear piece so that we could listen to the guide. The tour was approx 2 hours and they showed us all of the main parts of Pompeii, explaining the history. Overall I really enjoyed this tour and I would recommend it!

The visit to Pompeii was incredibly memorable because of the ancient structures and the vast amount of information our tour guide shared with us. Our tour guide imparted a lot of information and the ear sets to hear made all of the difference. It was quite crowded and very warm in October.
The only drawback was that when we were picked up at the cruise port the bus went into the city to pick up more tour guests at two more places which, due to heavy traffic, added an hour to our travel time before heading to Pompeii. After the tour, instead of riding the bus back to the port, we took a private taxi and got back in about 20 minutes.

Walking through the home and seeing the rooms. Viewing the ruins and seeing the wagon wheel track left behind. Our guide was very knowledgeable and lead a very good tour. We use walking sticks so your at times was grueling and hard to keep up.

Ok, so why the two..The meet up was really confusing. We were told that there would be a sign with our name. No sign. A person told us to wait in one spot but that was wrong. A woman without a Viator sign was collecting up groups for about 4-5 different tour groups.Luckily we found her. We were told in the description that we would be on a minibus. And the picture showed a group of about 16. So we were expecting a smaller tour. When the full size coach showed up, I was disappointed! The actual tour was good. Difficult at times to hear and follow due to crowds and people with limited mobility. Then the crazy experience getting back on the big bus. Calling roll call for at least the fourth time in four hours. Why didn’t they just give us a colored sticker. The group was so huge there was four busses!!! Thank goodness our group name was called in the first group. Unfortunately, I have come to expect a higher quality from Viator.

Very confusing when you are looking for these companies when you get off the ship.
They have no signs or anyone to help know you are in the right location.
Once you walk out of the port there are 40-50 taxi cab drivers all yelling and holding excursion options in hand speaking loudly.
Hard to know if you’re in the right place for pick up.
After about 20 minutes if chaos we finally found the person who gets us checked off an on the bus.
Bus was nice enough. We then went to the train station and a hotel to pick others up.
They should let us know what is going on. But we had plenty of time.
The ride to Pompeii was quick. The driver was good.
We got to the site and were walked to a location to wait for a guide. This guide of ours was very knowledgeable and answered questions well.
Everyone wears a loop over the ear device allowing you to hear the guide.
The tour was a bit long as it was very hot. Note to take a bottle of water along.
When we finished we back tracked to the train stations and hotel to drop the same people off and proceeded to the terminal.
The driver (different one) wanted to drop us off a short distance away - maybe he didn’t want to get into all the traffic into the port.
They need better signage or an understanding of the meet location.
It’s very chaotic and hard to know you’re in the right location. But overall a good experience.

We purchased a tour with "Port pick up and drop off". They did not disclose that they were not only picking up the customers from the ship, they also had to do pick up and passenger exchanges along the way. We were on the bus for close to 90 minutes, the tour guide would just get off the bus and leave us sitting there, with no explanation. Then, we were left in the concession area to wait for the tour to begin. They said 10-15 minutes for people to use the restroom, but then another tour group was dropped off to join us, and we had to wait another 10-15 minutes for them to use the restroom. We started our tour more than 2 hours past the time that we booked. It was almost noon before we started the tour, and by then it was very very hot and super crowded. I booked morning tours to try to avoid the heat due to my medical conditions. I had a hard time completing the tour, and had to stop early because it was the middle of the afternoon and I was feeling like I would pass out. The people that purchased their tour from the ship were finishing as we were just finally beginning,. We highly regret purchasing this tour.

We had a very hard time following our guide. She was short and told us to follow her blue umbrella that she carried low. Half the time we couldnt see her and and it was a very hot day so there were lots if people carrying umbrellas. She should have had a long pole with something unique on it. We got lost from the group, along with others, several times making it a frustrating day.

Pompei was simply amazing. Meeting details need to be a bit more explicit ie didn’t receive any except to meet outside the port terminal. Given the number of people and ships arriving, and huge number of guides, clearer pick up details would have been great. That was the only fault

I received a text to meet the tour at 9:30 am and I was looking for a minivan as explained in the description of the tour. I saw no one with a sign with the tour name or with my name. At 9:42 am I walked toward the street and asked other tours if they had seen the tour. They all replied no and I called the number listed on my information. I explained where I was and had the assistance of a tour guide that spoke Italian. I finally saw a person that came to me and we entered a large tour bus full of people. We were divided into at least two groups of approximately 30 people. The tour guide at Pompei was knowledgeable and I would book him for a more personal tour if I return. I think the advertisement was deceptive in the mention of a minivan/small group and I had no intent to do a huge bus tour. I could have done that through Royal Caribbean. Also, I do not know any adult friends in the United States that use What’s App! When we booked through Viator we booked 7 tours and this is the only one not represented correctly and trouble being picked up.
