Wow, Lili was so knowledgeable, passionate, and kind. An absolutely fantastic guide who took us through a well structured journey through Mexican history and culture. She taught us so much about the themes, symbolism, and events of Mexico, including the complicated past between the indigenous people of Mexico and the conquistadors. I would request her if you can!

Our tour guide papa Antonio was very knowledgeable. He understood the assignment well, he gave a great crash course in Mexican history, since the museum is huge and the museum part of the tour was only for 2.5 hours. We don't speak or read Spanish and we would have been lost without a tour guide.

Itinerary

Head to Mexico City’s most visited museum, the National Museum of Anthropology, also part of Chapultepec Park. Follow your guide on a tour of some of the most impressive pre-Columbian and Mexican artifacts, including Olmec carved heads and the Aztec Stone of the Sun.

Then, experience one of Mexico City's most visited sites—Chapultepec Castle. Climb up a hill with your guide and reach the 18th-century castle.

Chapultepec started as a retreat for Aztec rulers before it was partially torn down and rebuilt into the palace of Emperor Maximilian of Habsburg. It then turned into the residence for Mexico’s presidents before most of the castle was converted into the National History Museum.

Follow your guide along marble staircases, peer into royal apartments, and admire the state carriages of Emperor Maximilian and Benito Juárez. Pass murals of battles painted by famous artists, including José Clemente Orozco and John O'Gorman, as well as the sword wielded by independence fighter José María Morelos.

As you explore the 12 halls, learn about the country’s history, from the pre-Columbian period through Spanish colonialism, to Mexico’s revolution and its independence.

Your tour ends in the afternoon so you have the rest of your day to enjoy at your leisure.

Visit with a guide

Ezgi_E, Mar 2026
It makes all the difference to visit this museums with a guide. Leonardo was very professional and knowledgeable. I recommend taking this tour

Book this tour!

Leonardo was a great guide! He explained many years of history very well. I was happy that I chose to go on a tour otherwise the museum would have been very overwhelming and I wouldn’t have known the highlights to hit.

Two great sites and a walk in the park

malia_m, Mar 2026
Great way to check off both sites. Our guide Jonathan was great- did frequent checks about taking a break/bathroom breaks. He kept a good pace and answered any questions we had. You can also go back to the musuem afterwards if you want to explore on your own.

Absolutely fantastic and I recommend Lili as a guide!

Essential Aspect of Your Mexico City Visit

Jacob_T, Mar 2026
Tier 1 activity for sure! Jonathan (Jinathan?) was an excellent guide and added a ton to both locations. We only did three exhibits at the Anthropology Museum but you have the ability to go back and see the rest after the tour is completed on the same ticket. Decent amount of walking so be prepared.

Informative, Interesting, and Beautiful!

Nicole_S, Mar 2026
I feel like this tour should be one of the first things you do when you're new to Mexico City - I learned a lot from our great tour guide Giovanna that made me appreciate other things that I saw during the rest of my stay (Teotihuacan, Xochimilco, Coyoacan). I really liked that we met early enough by the flag pole at the entrance of the building that we were the first group in from a long line that gathered before the anthropology museum opened. The little sound receiver and ear bud were nice to be able to hear the guide speaking despite the echoes of the halls and the not-as-considerate groups around us. There were only three of us who continued on to Chapultepec Castle, which was beautiful. Our guide ended each portion of the tour in a really scenic spot, so my somewhat directionally-challenged self took at least 5 minutes to wander out of Chapultepec Castle and another 5 minutes or so to get out of Chapultepec Park to get an Uber back to my hotel. That's mostly a me thing though, and the experience was overall great!

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Dear Nicole, thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We are glad to know you enjoyed the experience and that Giovanna helped make your visit informative and enjoyable. We appreciate your comments and hope the rest of your time exploring the city was just as memorable. Best Regards from the Quality Department of Amigo tours- claudia

Our guide Fernando was incredible, he was so knowledgeable and gave us so much interesting information on the ancient civilizations of Mexico and history of the country! We had a very enjoyable day!

A good day of learning...

Jolie_W, Feb 2026
A good day of learning about ancient and more recent history. Gio was a great guide, very knowledgeable and explained everything very clearly. She showed us the highlights of the Museum of Anthropology and then we walked about 15 minutes to Chapultepec Castle. A few things to know: 1) Eat breakfast before the tour as there isn't a whole lot of time to grab lunch. You can get a snack at the street stalls in between the two venues; and 2) You go to the museum first and don't have time to explore more on your own after, but you do at the Castle. So if staying at the museum is important for you, you may want to book the tours separately rather than as a combo.

Chapultepec Castle & Anthropology Museum Tour (Spanish)

Juan_S, Feb 2026
We did the Chapultepec Castle + Anthropology Museum tour with Nadia Sulin, and she was absolutely amazing—so knowledgeable and engaging. We chose the Spanish tour, even though our whole group were English speakers too… which honestly made us laugh, but it ended up being a great choice. A tip: give yourself extra time to get there because morning traffic is real. We were staying in Roma Norte and budgeted 30 minutes, but it actually took about 50 minutes by Uber. The best part is that tickets to both museums are included, which made everything really easy. That said, keep in mind this tour moves at a highlight pace. The Anthropology Museum portion was fairly quick—we mainly zipped through the major highlights before heading to the castle. The castle portion is similar, roughly about an hour at each. What really stood out was Nadia’s depth and her memory. She spoke about everything she highlighted as if she had an intimate, personal knowledge of each item—every object, artwork, and historical detail felt intentional and connected. I especially loved how detailed she got when explaining the murals—she pointed out symbolism and context you’d never get just from reading the plaques. A couple things worked against the flow (not her fault): our Anthropology Museum portion happened around the same time as a citywide earthquake drill, and we also started a little late at Chapultepec Castle because some people wanted to stop for photos instead of meeting at the designated point. Another thing I appreciated: after the guided portion ends at the castle, you can stay and explore on your own, or head back to the Anthropology Museum. You keep your ticket and it’s valid for re-entry, which we loved. The only thing I’d improve is timing for basics—like a few minutes to stop by the museum shops, and ideally a short food break somewhere between the museum and the castle. The meetup was 8:50am and our tour ended around 1:36pm (the listing said 1:50pm), so having a planned snack/meal moment would’ve made it even better. Overall, I’d definitely recommend it—especially if you want context and storytelling beyond what you can read on your own. Nadia truly made the experience.

Highly Recommend!

Katie_F, Feb 2026
This was an excellent way to experience both the museum and the castle. Our guide, Hector, was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic and made the whole experience so much fun.

Bad luck

Silvia_D, Feb 2026
The museums we wonted to visit were so interesting bud the guide we had was not informative or didn't know how to represent the story. It felt like we are waisting our time so we decided to leave in the middle of the event! It is the first time for me being so rood and leaving like that! Very unfortunate!

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Dear Silvia, Thank you for sharing your experience. We'd like to mention all our guides are experienced professionals who strive to provide accurate information in an engaging manner in order to give the best possible customer experiences. We regret to hear that on this ocassion the tour did not fully meet your expectations. Best Regards from the Quality Department of Amigo Tours. Claudia

Anthropologie museum and castle

denise_b, Feb 2026
Or guide was awesome, very knowledgeable. And friendly. Thoroughly showed us around and explained so much about the aztec calendar, that is quite the mystery!

Lots of time on your feet but worth it!

Esther_H, Feb 2026
Jonathan and Leonardo were excellent. Jon’s enthusiasm for the topic was very evident. It was a long day but well worth it. Very complimentary to our walking tour of the Centro.

Great!

Highly recommend, we did a private tour and our guide Ligia was great and super knowledgeable, and was able to answer all our questions.

Yes pick this one!

David_H, Jan 2026
Our guide Leonardo was excellent. Very well informed and interesting. Gave us a lot of great incites into the history of all of the Mexican heritage.

DoNot book through Viatour

Tony_A, Jan 2026
Viator canceled my private tour and we were left with a public tour of only the museum. The canceled the castle tour altogether and changed us for the entire private experience. Communication was almost nonexistent. Had to formerly request a partial refund and am told it will take 72 hours If approved. I would recommend booking through a local private tour company and not Viator for further excursions.

Informative and Incredibly Insightful

Gio was our tour guide and she did a phenomenal job of leading this tour! I learned so much of the history of Mexico and that made seeing all of the artifacts even more impactful. The castle was stunning and I appreciated the backstories as well. This makes for a long morning to afternoon but if you enjoy history then you’ll appreciate it. Be sure to have a good breakfast before you go :) all in all a great tour!

Highly recommend doing anthropology museum with a tour guide

Large group and feeling rushed

Cara_M, Jan 2026
Felt rushed at the Anthropology museum. It was a large group of about 30 people. We all had headsets to hear the guide but it was too large to enjoy it fully. The museum itself is a must do. So many things to see in a short time (2 hours). It might have been more valuable to just do one tour at a time and do it for longer. They do have videos in English within the museum which explain a lot but we didn’t have time to see them. We got 20 minutes to get refreshments but it was eat in only and with the line up we were feeling really rushed. The guide was a lovely knowledgeable gentleman but it was hard to understand at times due to his accent. I would say go on a longer tour but separate the Anthropology museum and Chapultepec castle. Also of note you have to climb Chapultepec hill and don’t miss the murals at the castle. For the price I think you can do it on your own or in a smaller group.

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Dear Partner, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We’re glad to hear you found the museum worthwhile and appreciated the guide’s knowledge. We take note of your comments regarding group size, timing, and overall pacing of the visit, as well as your suggestions about separating the sites. We will consider your observations as part of our ongoing evaluation process. We appreciate your input and thank you for taking the time to share your experience and we hope to see you again in other of our tours. - Alma
