Professor Jorge was an amazing guide. His background in history and anthropology combined with his humor and true love of Country made him the perfect guide. Wealth of knowledge and open to dive deep into historical context really helped set the stage for tour and helped us gain deeper insight. We walked a way with a desire to learn more and even asked him for book recommendations. A must for anyone who appreciates history.

First, the good: communications up front with Jorge via WhatsApp before we arrived was strong. He also got us bottles of water mid-tour. We got to see both the Castle and the Museum. Then second, the experience itself, which was far from good:: We had an expectation that with a private tour, we would be able to set the pace with our guide while also engaging together throughout the experience. This was not the case. Jorge has a theatrical, lecture-toned, extremely verbose communications style which was surprisingly inflexible (even after we told him that we had already done much research about the locations and wanted a quicker pace - our group was simply two adult couples). He spent the first 5-10 minutes upon greeting us with an affirmation of his 98% approval rating on reviews, citing the reason why 2% of his guests gave him bad reviews was due to mis-expectations. So then, he went on to explain what he felt the expectations were. His touring style is to stop, give a lecture of sorts, always in a circumlocutory way. When we tried to ask questions, he would answer with an extremely protracted set of words which might get to an answer eventually. (Ironically, the next day we learned from another guide a bunch of information that actually contradicted some of what Jorge told us from a historical accuracy standpoint). The tour was structured such that it was 50% this and 50% of solo time exploring the Castle then Museum. Due to this approach, 75% of our time was spent leading up to and seeing the Castle. Unfortunately, there were several miscommunications we had throughout the whole tour that made things even less pleasant that it already was. His approach also left us all uncomfortable not only because of how he communicated but because he was very “touchy”. (Both men/women did not like this). Sadly, this experience was a disappointment. Perhaps he was just having a very bad day.

I am truly saddened by these comments, most of which are biased and malicious. Let me address them point by point:
You booked a short cultural tour for tourists visiting the Castle and Museum for the first time. This involves sharing almost seven centuries of history, which we present through an interactive narrative with three essential stops to provide contextual information and allow for breaks, as the only way to reach the Castle is by walking up a steep hill. I call this empathy.
Furthermore, thanks to the tourists' consideration, at the end of these breaks my group enjoys time to take photos and have free time at the Castle, which is greatly appreciated by almost all my clients, but I see that you do not.
At the beginning of every tour, I always ask for four minutes to "break the ice," to introduce ourselves, and above all, to reaffirm step by step how the tour will unfold. This helps avoid misunderstandings and maintain our 98% satisfaction rate and excellent feedback, preventing surprises and confusion, especially for clients like yourselves (2%) who didn't read the itinerary and booked simply on a whim, unaware that a short cultural tour requires a structured approach for learning and enjoyment. Now I see that you never followed this plan and showed no interest in either the tour or me. Let me explain: Of the four people, only the two men seemed interested. The women never engaged with us and remained two meters behind or in front of us throughout the entire tour, not listening to anything. I must always respect my clients, so I let the tour flow, focusing on those who were genuinely interested. "Perhaps the women just wanted to see things without listening," I thought.
But the saddest part of all is that they didn't pay attention to my suggestions for meeting points, which meant that, due to this lack of communication (on their part, not mine), while I was waiting for them in one place, they decided to be somewhere else. In fact, one of the men in their group even sincerely and honestly apologized to me for their lack of attention and courtesy.
Regarding interpretations of history, they will always be interesting and very different depending on who tells them and who listens to them: cultural level, political perspective, openness, and above all, a positive disposition on the part of the listeners, because history has many facets and interpretations. Now I understand why I sometimes received examples of apathy and, I have to say it, racism as well.
And to conclude:
Remember that you should always read the tour descriptions before booking. Don't forget that your attitude must be positive, patient, and open to receiving information and explanations from different perspectives offered by guides from a foreign country. These interpretations, at least in my case, are the result of many years of anthropological and ethnological studies, which practically all my tourists appreciate and are grateful for (98%). Unfortunately, I'm sorry, it seems not to be the case for you.
Be happy and please: enjoy yourselves.

We had a great experience...because Jorge is a great guide! He clearly explained all of the "sites" we visited but what was most impressive was the his knowledge and clear explanation of the history and significance of those items. Be aware that there are times when you are on own and you need do your own investigation and thinking. However, Jorge is always ready to answer any questions you might have! All in all, this was a great tour with a great guide!

We were amazed by the beauty of the gardens and the Lion’s Gate sculptures. The walk was long from the gate to the castle. The route was unevenly paved which made the wheelchair ride uncomfortable. Our guide was patient and there were benched for times we needed a rest. The elevator to the castle was out of service so the gentle uphill walk was a test. But the castle did not disappoint. The views from the balconies were jaw-dropping. The grand entry with its chandelier and staircase was stunning. The room designs, furnishings and royal accoutrements were splendid to view. The official and royal carriages were beautifully elegant and the life size portraits were worth the trip.

This tour focuses mostly on Chapultepec Castle and Forest. Jorge is a highly knowledgeable and kind tour guide who encourages questions. Your understanding of the history of Mexico City will be greatly enhanced by visiting the castle. The urban forest is large, so it takes awhile to walk between the Castle and the Museum. This gives you time to see some of the beauty and diversity of the Forest, but it doesn’t leave much time for the Anthropology Museum. This isn’t a complaint; it’s just something to be aware of. By the time we got to the Museum, we only had time to talk about 4 artifacts. I expected a full hour in the museum but there wasn’t time for that. I would suggest booking this tour in the morning so you have the whole afternoon for the museum. I also would suggest pairing it with a guided tour of the museum if your goal is to spend several hours there. Most of it did not have signage in English.

The guide was very knowledgeable, but this tour is not a good fit for families or anyone needing flexibility. Although we booked a private tour to see and learn about the castle and the Museum of Anthropology, it felt more like a long history lecture than an interactive tour.
After standing outside the castle for about 45 minutes getting an history lesson that I could have listened to at home, our kids (ages 7 and 9) were running out of steam. When I asked if we could adjust or move on, the guide refused to adapt and instead repeatedly told me I should have read the full tour description more carefully. There was no attempt to tailor the experience, despite it being a private tour and despite our visible disappointment.
We ended the tour after about an hour because the children were so upset. I’m writing this review simply to make other families aware that this is not the right tour if you’re traveling with kids or need flexibility.

You clearly never read the tour description before booking, which is duly authorized by TripAdvisor-Viator. Many families with children end up grateful and happy with this type of tour: historical, anecdotal, and with free time within its short duration to make it flow smoothly and enjoyably.
Several points:
- You didn't arrive at the meeting point, which is why we started late.
You yourselves told me that your daughter was tired after a long day of tours throughout your vacation and that this was the last one because you were returning to your country the next day.
Therefore, your daughter was already tired, not because of the tour or me, but because You exhausted and overwhelmed her with so much daily physical activity.
Remember that after visiting the castle, you told me you were going to drop your children off at the hotel and return to the Museum of Anthropology on your own. You said it wasn't because of me, it was because of your daughter.You told me not to worry, it was your decision. I still insisted we try to go to the museum, but you said no. So I gave you the museum tickets, and you thanked me.
I sincerely ask you:
- Before booking a tour, please read the tour details, including the itinerary, the meeting point, and especially the reviews, so you know what you're booking. Honestly, my tour has a 98% satisfaction rate, and most of my tourists are families with children.

Jorge is extremely knowledgable and was very invested in making sure we grasped a chronological understanding of the Mexican history he was teaching us. Having an expert teach you in depth requires strong focus and attention, so if you want a more freeform style, you may prefer a different kind of tour, but I really enjoyed Jorge's insightful presentation of the information. We did get a lot of free time to explore on our own, and I liked ending at the Museum of Anthropology.

Tour guide snapped every time we ask for something. Was not very friendly. Very impatient with guests. His English was not too good.

I honestly respect your opinion, but I honestly don't understand it because all your requests were properly addressed. Let me explain:
1. You arrived 15 minutes before the start time and asked me to use the restroom. The restrooms open at 9 am. So we walked from the meeting point to the restrooms located right at the entrance to the castle.
2. You told me that your friend's knees were bad, and I kept pace with her. You were always two steps ahead of us. Therefore, your friend listened to practically every explanation as we walked, very attentively and politely.
3. Remember, we stopped at every bench during our tour so your friend could sit, and she did so at my suggestion as a show of empathy. There were 8 breaks in total, each lasting between 2 and 5 minutes.
4. With all due respect, I tried to be as kind, informative, and, above all, as patient as possible. Your friend was always very attentive to me, but more than once you made me uncomfortable with displays of disinterest, apathy, and even racism. I don't know, maybe you were upset for reasons unrelated to the tour, and I ended up being the receptacle on which you vented your potential stress.
But you know what?
I was delighted when we finished the Castle that you told me you liked it, and also when we finished the Anthropology Museum. Besides enjoying it and learning from me, I was delighted that you said a lovely goodbye and even earned me a small reward. Sorry, but if I hadn't been friendly, courteous, or professional, or shown my empathy for you, then I would have completely agreed with your comment.
However, even though I still don't understand you, I reiterate my best wishes and apologies.
And finally:
I am very sorry for your complaint regarding my supposedly "poor English" because, as you can read and see in the more than 110 comments from my clients, they have never once written this type of complaint (about the language); on the contrary, they have only written lovely comments thanking me for my explanations and stories, and that can only be possible with a good command of the language, which, by the way (English), is not my native language.

We feel badly about giving Jorge two stars because he is so knowledgeable. However a guide needs to connect to his guests. He did not. This was theater for him where he controlled our experience and really did not want any questions or interactions with us.

Do you remember that you went to the wrong meeting point? I was on the verge of canceling the tour, yet I waited for you in the most courteous and polite manner without any problem.
Do you also remember that from the beginning of the tour, we agreed that I would tell you the history, facts, and events in an orderly sequence according to THE TIMELINE, so as not to cause any confusion, and you were in complete agreement?
All, yes, all of your questions were correctly answered, even when the answers to your questions jumped to events that occurred centuries after the historical moment we were discussing (confusing the times of the Conquest with the French Occupation, to cite just one example). That's why I briefly answered your questions, letting you know not to worry, as the most complete information would be provided freely and fluidly in a thorough, timely, and simple manner, without chronological jumps so as not to confuse you.
Sometimes it's extremely important to take into account that there are Cultural Tours (like mine) where the only way to get ahead in the short duration of this tour (just over 3 hours) is to adhere to a complete, organized, ethical, and professional narrative. Later, during the free time shared with me, for example, while we walked through Chapultepec Park, you can take advantage of it to address any questions you may have, and you fully confirmed my complete availability. Now, on the other hand:
I am very grateful for the adjective "very expert," which is a compliment and greatly motivates me to continue updating and preparing for greater excellent and positive feedback. This is practically the case with 98% of all my clients here at Viator who have liked my approach to work, the way I share History as a Narrative in accordance with the Timeline to avoid potential confusion. If I were in your shoes as a client, I would absolutely not want to pay money for a disorganized guide who, just to "connect," creates chaos in the proper development and makes abrupt historical leaps just to please and turn this tour into a definitive theater. The tour guide is Jorge. He is a professor with deep experience in United States and Mexico with a diverse background that includes Europe. If you want a tour that is, as Charles Goodwin would say, “the rest of the story,” take this tour. We really enjoyed learning more than what is typical surface level stories told about history. I have always wondered about certain historical stories and Jorge has given some excellent background and perspectives that are more logical, tangible and realistic. It’s fascinating how religion, politics, and wealth can modify facts to suit.
Jorge will provide a balance of 1:1 tour guiding and allowing self-touring. We enjoyed this balance.
this tour covers both the Chapultepec Castle (aka Mexico History Museum) and the Anthropology Museum. Starting early is a perfect strategy since both sites are very popular and there are longer lines starting 11am. Pay attention to the guidelines NOT to bring water and food into the museums. the Antrhopology Museum has a bag check in the event you must have water and food close by.

The castle was probably the best part of our trip to CDMX! You absolutely can’t go home without seeing it.
The Anthropology Museum is also a must see, but this tour only covers 1 room of the 6-8 exhibit rooms in the museum. We self toured the rest of the museum at a later time.
Jorge, our guide, was VERY knowledgeable; he was a former university professor. He was very friendly too.
Only nitpick would be it’s more of a lecture than it is interactive. It was still great, but if you have kids with short attention span, it may be difficult. They will love Chapultepec Castle much more than the Anthropology Museum.

We know that the Anthropology Museum has 22 rooms of different Mexican cultures. We also know that the tour lasts just a little over 3 hours.
I am pleased that you loved El Castillo and that you decided to stay longer at the Anthropology Museum because it means that you really liked it and that you followed my suggestion to stay longer after my explanations in the Aztec Room, which is what my Tour offers and which is clearly described and written in the development and itinerary of my Tour that you gladly decided to book and which also says that my Activity is for Tourism that visits these Points for the first time. Reading with pleasure your Comments I realize that you loved the Museum and that is why I respectfully recommend that since you already knew it and liked the Aztec Room: it would be even more pleasant for you to also book a Tour that will include other rooms and with a minimum of 3 hours but only to dedicate to the museum on this occasion.
My work is not a lecture, but rather, it is an interaction where I share with you with all my pleasure and passion the Story Line so that later in the breaks between one passage and another you can ask your questions and take photos. I consider it to be the most practical, ethical, professional and win-win way for everyone taking into account, I insist, that the duration of the Activity is a little more than 3 hours and that thanks to all of the above, the vast majority of my Clients consider our Tour interesting, complete, informative, didactic, enjoyable and organized.

Jorge was an animated and knowledgeable guide. Due to a military event at the Chapultepec Castle we had to reverse our itinerary, but this was not an issue. We had ample time to enjoy the Museo Nacional de Antropología as well as the castle.
Minor note: for those with sensitivity to cigarette smoke, Jorge does take smoking breaks while he is waiting for you to finish your own explorations of the two buildings and the smell lingers.
This tour was a good way to walk through the Bosque de Chapultepec, experience the castle and museum and learn along the way.

Jorge gave my wife and I a splendid walking tour of the Chapultepec Castle area while discussing its historical importance. Our tour of his selected portion of the large Anthropology Museum was equally well done and relevant to our interests. His knowledge and experience is extraordinary. He provided us with what will be longstanding memories with historical context.
