Itinerary
If you've booked the private tour, greet your guide at your Mexico City hotel: Otherwise, make your way to your choice of central meeting point.
Your full-day tour kicks off at Coyoacán, which dates back to pre-Hispanic times. Admire 16th-century mansions along cobblestone streets, and learn about one of Mexico City’s oldest neighborhoods from your informative guide.
If you’ve opted to visit the Frida Kahlo Museum, immerse yourself in the tumultuous life and iconic artwork of this beloved artist with an hour of free time in the museum.
Your Mexico City sightseeing adventure continues at Xochimilco, located 17 miles (28 kilometers) south of Mexico City, a waterway network of floating gardens of flowers. An ecological reserve that holds UNESCO World Heritage status, this valley was a lake during Aztec times. To get around the scarcity of arable soil back then, the people developed chinampas, islands made of floating reed mats.
Spend about an hour drifting peacefully along the canals and admiring the chinampas from your colorful, flat-bottomed trajinera boat. Hear festive music from other boats, occupied by families and visitors celebrating weddings, birthdays, and other happy occasions.
Visit the National Autonomous University of Mexico and check out the Central Campus, a collaboration that came together in 1952 involving more than 60 engineers, architects, and artists, including muralists Diego Rivera and Juan O´Gorman.
Your day finishes at the place where you met your guide.

Tour too long and did not need to stop at jewelry store to see overpriced stuff. Buffet food was horrible.

IF I'M BEING HONEST if I could time travel and tell myself not to book this tour I would do so. The tour started off with 2 extra stops that were not on the itinerary - one was a silver shop (?) that was out of the way of everything advertised, and the other was San Angel which was beautiful but definitely added to how long the tour was overall. In total we spent almost 4 hours driving around, and while traffic can't be helped the extra stops made it extra painful. Xochilmco was beautiful but kind of stressful for me because every 2 seconds another boat was pulling up trying to sell us stuff. I would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't so tired from the rest of the tour. We can't speak to the museum experience because I accidentally bought the tickets opting out of the museum when trying to opt out of the lunch, so make sure to read the ticket descriptions well lol

Mariam, Hector, and Antonio were great. We enjoyed the tour but my 9 and 10 year old were a little restless because traffic was awful.
We did the tour on a Thursday and spent more time in traffic than actual visit times at each of the sites.
Remember to carry change in pesos with you. At Xochimilko, you will need 5 pesos per a person to use the restrooms.
Not all vendors have change, make sure you carry smaller bills in pesos.

The itinerary was very different from what was advertised, and the tour was much longer than I and others anticipated. Don’t make plans for after the tour until it ends. That said, it wasn’t bad.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Dear traveler, thank you for your feedback. All tour details and itineraries are shared clearly before booking, and we recommend reviewing them carefully to help plan your day. We’re glad to hear that, despite the timing, your overall experience was not negative. We hope you keep good memories of the tour.

The places included in this tour are wonderful, but there were several issues that future travelers should be aware of.
First, the tour duration listed on the website is misleading. It says the tour lasts about 9 hours, but in reality it took almost 12 hours due to traffic and scheduling. That is a big difference, and it would help travelers plan better if the company communicated a more realistic timeframe.
Second, the guide’s English was quite difficult to understand. The guide seemed knowledgeable and friendly, but the explanations were hard to follow, which made it challenging to fully appreciate the historical and cultural information during the tour.
Third, we specifically purchased tickets for the Frida Kahlo Blue House Museum (Casa Azul), but instead we were taken to the Red House. Since the Blue House was one of the main reasons we booked this tour, this substitution was disappointing and should have been communicated clearly beforehand.
Another important issue is that if you book only the Xochimilco boat ride option, you are still required to stay with the group for the entire tour. This means spending roughly 12 hours on the tour even if you only wanted the boat portion, which is not clearly explained in the booking details.
The destinations themselves—Xochimilco, Coyoacán, and the Frida Kahlo area—are beautiful and worth visiting, but clearer communication and better organization would make the experience much better.

If you are not going to the Frida Kahla museum you have a lot of free time on your hands. The boat tour is nothing more than painted boats on a crowded canal.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the place which I appreciate. However the boat tour was only one hour but my gosh we were bombarded with people on boats trying to sell you something, if it's not the alcohol which the same person kept trying to sell evey 5 minutes, it's the mariachi band. If it's not them, then a guy with a hawk trying to sell you chances to hold the hawk for pictures. If its not the hawk guy, then its people trying to sell you souvenirs. If it's not a souvenir then someone with flower bands. Everyone asks for tips. You're just a gringo wallet to them. It was too much to the point you don't enjoy the scenery at all. I get you have to make a living but it was crazy.

Berenice, Elezar, and Norberto were phenomenal!!
Unfortunate we didn’t get tickets to the blue house how the original booking was for but we ended up going to the red house but honestly this team made the entire experience amazing that the minor inconvenience wasn’t even an issue at all.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Dear Alma, thank you for sharing your feedback. We are delighted to hear that Berenice, Elezar, and Norberto made the experience enjoyable and memorable, even with the change in the visit. We truly appreciate your kind words.

The guide was very knowledgeable and told great historifcal stories while we drove along in the bus which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Coyoacan was fun but way too commercialized. There was no history lesson about the people living along the canal and how they survived and made a living. The main focus was buying drinks and food from the passing boats while not bumping into the many other boats on the canal, paying for a Marachi band to play one song and drinking with the other travellers.
There were no tickets available for the Frieda Museum so we only did the first two things. There was no option for us to go back to our hotel so we had to go to the restaurant but we didn't want to eat there. Then we were supposed to wait several hours until the group was finished eating and going to the museum. We opted to leave the group and go back to our hotel on our own.
