Great!

Fantastic walking tour of Budapest. We got to see a lot of the city & we learned about the different sights. Our tour guide was very sweet & knowledgeable.

Budapest history walking tour

Heidi_T, Jun 2025
Our local tour guide met us at our hotel. She was warm and friendly and shared a ton of rich history of Budapest. We were able to be flexible and since we had visited the Buda castle region the day before, she took us to the Jewish section and gave us a detailed and sobering tour of what had happened in Hungary. We walked away from this to tour feeling that we really got to know Budapest and its rich history in a very short time. The strudel stop was a sweet highlight! I was a little wary of the cabbage strudel recommendation, but it was delicious!! Trust the locals, right? The tour was well worth the money, book it in advance!

Great personalised tour of city

Having a private tour with guide meant we could customise the tour to discuss subjects of interest to us. Rebecca our guide was knowledgeable and interesting and provided personal glimpses into Hungarian culture and lifestyle. I would highly recommend this tour.

Monika was an amazing tour guide and brought Budapest and its history to life. The monuments and squares were amazing with plenty of time to take pictures.

Eszter was great!

Steven_B, Jan 2023
Eszter met us in the hotel lobby to start the tour, and was very personable and spoke English very well. On our way to the train to where the tour would start (and throughout the rest of the tour), she was full of information and personal anecdotes about the city's history and her personal experience there over the years. She clearly paid attention to what we were interested in hearing about or not, our comfort with the weather (it was very cold), and the coffee shop stop in the middle was superb (and especially welcome with the weather). Also, at the end of the tour we told her what else we had coming up and she gave us advice about restaurants and other helpful information (for example, she pointed out where the entrance to the Parliament tour is, which probably ended up being a life-saver for us getting to the tour on time).

Response from Host, Feb 2023

We’re really grateful and appreciate you taking the time to share your detailed review with us. Eszter was thrilled to receive such a great rating, thank you and we hope to see you again.

Wonderful and Enlightening

What a great experience. Rebeka made our visit special and had us memorized the entire time. Highly recommend it.

Our private walking tour guide was Sandor. Although we had already visited a number of the places he wished to take us too, we revisited them as he had much more interesting information to offer. We experienced local buses, trams and the metro which is something we wouldn't have done on our own for fear of getting lost. Our tour started at The New York Cafe, Andrassy Street, Heroes Square, a quick peek inside the Thermal Baths, St.Stephen's Basilica, stopping at a Retro Cafe for coffee and pastry, crossing the Danube via the Chain Bridge, local bus up to Buda Castle viewing the President's House and the soon to be Prime Minister's residence. We saw so many beautiful sites we no doubt would not have found on our own. Sandor spoke perfect English, was very easy to talk too and we cannot believe how much information he retains. It was fascinating and we really enjoyed spending the morning with him. By the way, we walked from Buda Castle back to our hotel. Thank you for the experience, Budapest is our all time best ever City Break.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of Hungary - which was exactly what we were looking for. He was very personable and made the whole tour very enjoyable. Our group was only 4 people so everyone had a chance to engage and ask lots of questions. I would certainly do this again. Also, the pastries were great!

This tour was amazing. Arpod was the greatest guide anyone could ask for. He tailored the tour to our needs and went above and beyond to make sure all of the sites we wanted to see were visited. Best way to get an overview of the city.

This was a highlight of our trip to Budapest! Our guide, Balint, was very knowledgeable and easy to get to know. Not only did we see all the main attractions, he spent time answering our questions about the current culture. If you only have one day for touring, this is the tour for you. Since it is private, you can cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. We used public transportation and Balint gave us a quick tutorial so we were well prepared to go it alone when the tour was complete. Wonderful day.

Orshia aka Orshi led us through this wonderful walk that introduced us to the city ! A young actress taking time off to care for her 3 year old son, being a City guide gives her the flexibility to balance home and work. A very pleasant, humourous and knowledgeable guide who in a leisurely comfortable walk showed us with pride the wonderful city that is her home !

We had a great walking tour of Budapest led by Ardap. He was able to tailor a tour for us with a blend of history, architecture and culture which did not double up on sights seen the previous day. We took a ride on the historic metro and ended up at the baths across the Danube after a short tram ride. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone as you can do the walk at your own pace and not be slowed down with large groups.

That was THE best tour! Our tour guide Adrienne was truly awesome. We went at our own pace and added to walk over the chain bridge and the Jewish section. We always use Viator where ever we are in Europe and have never been disappointed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our private walking tour with Bogata. She was amazing, with so much knowledge. I would tour with her again, anytime! We covered so much ground and saw so many grand sights. This was the best way to see the city of Budapest. Thank you, Bogata and Viator.

Gary_S, Jul 2016
Adrienne was a WONDERFUL guide prompt, professional, informative, fun, energetic, and passionate about her work. We wanted to learn not only about ancient Hungarian history but also get a glimpse of the impact of WWII and Communist rule. Adrienne was knowledgeable on all fronts! She also was attentive to our interests and gave us an overview of where we would walk and what we could expect for the tour. Appreciated the map we were given as well! There is a good deal of walking on this tour but it was exactly what we were hoping to experience. Enjoyed the metro ride and the the struedel/refreshment stop was perfectly timed. The stairs to the Buda Castle area could be challenging to some but she offered the funicular as an option. We did that on our own later in the day and chose the down vs. the up ride. Definitely a great value!

SyedKashif_M, May 2016
While on a 18 day trip throughout Europe, this was our least favorite tour we did. This was the only private all tour, all other tours we did were group tours, I'm not sure if that's why! Our tour guide did not seem as knowledgeable as other tour guides we had. Overall we did walk to all the sights and but details for all the sights were not really elaborated on I had to ask a lot of questions about sights we had visited. I highly recommend the Budapest Food Walking Tour and river cruise in the evening for sunset!

We met Andi at our hotel. Her English was impeccable and she was very friendly. We were very impressed with her knowledge and it was really good to find out about the history of Budapest. The tour lasted around 4 hours. We did the tour on our first morning in the city and it was great for getting our bearings and finding out what we wanted to go back to to see in more detail. We started in the Castle District around our hotel and then walked across the Chain Bridge into Pest. Andi took us for a drink and strudel in a lovely cafe. We went on the Metro out to Heroes Square which was very interesting. It was great with just the two of us and Andi. We could ask questions and go at our own pace rather than being in a large group. Can't recommend highly enough.

A must see and visit...rich in culture and history. Our tour guide George was excellent and full of knowledge. This country has lots of beautiful buildings, museum, castles, churches, etc. Don't forget to dip into their ever popular baths with the therapeutic warm water and savour their pastry and desserts later.

Thomas M, Nov 2015
Tour guide was very informative and displayed a lot of enthusiasm. The guide actually spent more than the allotted time with us, since we asked a number of questions and had a really good dialogue with her about the city. This tour in our opinion was a really good value.

Pat, Nov 2015
The private walking tour that we did along with the friends we were traveling with was the optimum way to go. Our guide, Ferenc Manu, was fantastic. He provided us with an informative tour and his love of his country was apparent. Within the four hours of the tour we covered many areas of the city and left the tour much more knowledgeable than when we started regarding Budapest and it's history. Excellent value.
