Our guide, Greg, was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Budapest, its history, the Hungarian people, the culture. He took the time to answer all of our questions and made the time fly by. We enjoyed learning & laughing over delicious strudels/coffee at a local restaurant, as well as throughout this walking tour. Would highly recommend this tour & Greg the tour guide!!

Itinerary

Stroll across the streets of Budapest with a local guide on this tour. Beginning at the Hungarian State Opera House, hop on the metro for a quick ride out to City Park, beloved by locals and visitors alike, and Heroes’ Square. There, see the impressive statues of Hungary’s most important national leaders. After taking a walk through the park, come to the Vajdahunyad Castle, constructed in 1896 as part of the Millennial Exhibition, which celebrated 1,000 years since the Hungarian Conquest of the Carpathian Basin.

Your next stop is the popular Szechenyi Spa, Europe’s largest thermal bath, before taking the metro back into the city center.

From there, encounter the neo-classical structure of St. Stephen’s Basilica, one of the two tallest buildings in Budapest. Afterward, take a load off your feet in a Hungarian cafe where you can relax with a hot drink and delicious dessert included in the price of your ticket.

After your snack, walk along the Danube Promenade, taking in the panorama of Gellert Hill and the Citadel, while snapping a photo of the Chain Bridge. Conclude your tour in the Buda Castle District, where you can take the last of your photos from the stunning lookout at Fisherman's Bastion.

A Fantastic walking tour with transport included, not a hard walk nice and leisurely a great stop for strudel and coffee and the best tour guide you could hope for very informative very chatty very kind and helpful all day

If you only have a short time in Budapest this tour is a must!

Ann_K, Apr 2026
Monica is the best! We covered so much ground all with expert guiding, great story telling and excellent grasp of Budapest’s vast and complex history. This tour combines walking and use of the subway system which means you will see sights on the Buda and Pest sides of the river. The stop mid tour at The historic Strudel House allowed us to sit comfortably and sample sweet and savory strudel with coffee. Thank you Monica for a great tour!

Fantastic Tour

Guided small group walking tour of Budapest

Doreen_G, Apr 2026
Great walking tour with small group only, very informative, interesting and friendly guide, so much history that we would not have learnt.

Fantastic walking tour

Dolores_P, Apr 2026
The guide meet at the Opera House. Made use of the public transportation to save time and energy. If you are 65 or over the transportation is free. Just be sure to carry proof of age as it would need to be presented upon request. If under 65 I suggest each traveler have pre purchased a transit card. The walking tour was very comprehensive visiting all the major sights on the Pest side before proceeding over the Chain Bridge to visit Mathais Church, Trinity Column, and Fisherman's Bastion. The guide was very well versed in the history of Budapest and the information about each sight being ready to answer questions. The strudel stop was a real treat It was one of the best restaurants providing the guest the opportunity to try a number of choices and served a beverage of choice . Guide kept a good walking pace for the comfort and ability of guest. Highly recommend

Absolutely Brilliant! This tour is a fantastic way to see many of the key sites, orientate yourself and hear some history and anecdotes. Anna has an encyclopaedic knowledge of Budapest and Hungarian history and delivers it with passion and a touch of humour. This fabulous trip was one of the highlights of the brief visit myself and friends had over Easter. I highly recommend this wonderful tour and a huge thank you to Anna.

The Strudel of Budapest!

Nischit_V, Jan 2026
What a fantastic tour. Bellagio, our guide and that’s not how his Hungarian name is spelled; however he said it’s pronounced like that, was a charm and very knowledgeable, and hilarious. We had a small group of 7 which was nice. I’m glad I did this tour since I got to see a good portion of the landmarks and learn so much history about them. Someone commented in these reviews that they didn’t care for the strudel shop. I strongly disagree. Nice location and in a back room only for us. Great strudels and company with the other tourists. All of it was great! Do it!!! Also, we took the subway and busses to get to further places. The tour guide took care of everything with tickets.

Exceptional tour with an exceptional guide!

Liron_H, Dec 2025
My wife and I had an absolutely fantastic walking tour of Budapest with our guide, Louisa. This was easily one of the highlights of our trip! Louisa is truly exceptional. We loved that the group size was small, making the experience feel comfortable and personal. She possesses a profound knowledge of the city, providing a wealth of information about all the major sights, history, and local culture. What made the tour special were the charming tidbits and local insights she shared. Louisa was incredibly generous with her time, ensuring that every single question we had was answered thoroughly. She made the history of Budapest come alive! If you're looking for an informative, personal, and engaging tour experience, I highly recommend taking this tour and asking for Louisa!

Very good intro to the city. Probably would skip the strudel next time. Great historical perspective from Greg. Very personable and knowledgeable. Good introduction to use of public transportation.

Superb. A simply must do of you want to know more and see more of Budapest

Mark_H, Dec 2025
Such a great tour. Our guide Greg was so knowledgeable , passionate about his country and it's history. We could never have known about the background to the lcoAtions we visited without him. Plus being taken on the underground allow us to see how easy and safe it was . Superb morning and thoroughly recommend. The strudel house stop was added bonus

Fantastic tour to orient yourself in Budapest!

Joshua_D, Dec 2025
Everytime we visit a new city/country, we love booking a walking tour of the primary area we will largely be staying in order to learn the history and orient ourselves. This was one of the best walking tours we have ever done. Esther was amazing. She was organized, kept the tour moving, and we covered a LOT of ground with the help of the subway/metro and the bus public transportation system. You get to see Buda, as well as Pest, learn a lot about the origins to under the Soviet Union to present day, and eat delicious strudel - what's not to like? Highly recommend if it's your first time in Budapest.
