Very good tour

Jennifer_M, Dec 2025
Terrible history and very sad tour. Our guide was knowledgable and made sure we saw the most impactful parts.

Great Storytelling!

Jeff_H, Aug 2025
It was a very colorful and in-depth storytelling of both the history of pre-war Germany along with the hardships and atrocities endured by prisoners.

Trip to Sachsenhausen

Excellent trip - really tough but very thought provoking and worthwhile - small group and Paul was a fantastic and very knowledgable guide - would definitely recommend

Informative

Giovanna_M, Feb 2023
This tour was an incredible experience! Our tour guide Aaron was very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. He made sure to answer all questions we had throughout the tour and made sure that we were okay and feeling comfortable along the way. It is a place that brings out heavy emotions, but it is insanely informative. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone thinking of visiting the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp memorial.

A terrible place but a great tour

The day went from sunny and cool to very overcast with a somewhat unpleasant cold wild blowing through us, as we toured Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. Seemed fitting to be physically uncomfortable as we toured a place run by sadists used to punish and murder their fellow man. Stephen, our guide, was amazing. I can't recommend him enough. We took a nice easy trip from central Berlin up to the town where the camp is (Oranienburg) via public transport (RE5 train) and then about a mile walk from the station to the camp/memorial. First, everyone needs to see a concentration camp. And although this particular camp was not focused on being an extermination camp, per se, how can anyone deny the Holocaust and mass exterminations perpetrated by the German National Socialists, when there is still such clear physical and historical evidence? A chilling tour, chilling stories, and a nice, small group for these amazingly horrific stories.

Must do

Easy place to meet our guide, Paul, who was from Ireland and spoke perfect English. We happen to be the only family on the tour. Right away Paul was super friendly and helped us get our train tickets. His insight, demeanor and conversation with us was very nice and comforting. On our trip to the camp he gave us facts and overview of the regime which was spot on. At the entry to the camp he continued to give us info and walked us through the camp giving us time to take photos and look around. We took bathroom breaks and had time to rest if we wanted. You need to be able to walk for a few hours. The camp itself is sombering and heartfelt. Walking through a place and time which so many people lost their lives unfairly and honoring them in a way to keep their memory alive. Again Paul was amazing guide and super friendly. He was A+ guide. His personal stories and talks were good and we enjoyed sharing our life stories with him.

Our guide Paul was great!

Our guide Paul's experience and knowledge was great! Would be good if he wore a uniform or something less casual so we could identify him. But he knows so much! He shared so much.

Excellent Guide

Michael_H, Oct 2020
The actual tour was excellent. The guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his subject.. and able to fully and comprehensively answer all questions. I would thoroughly recommend it. My review is for the actual tour not the administration. The first booking was cancelled the night before which was inconvenient for a tourist with limited time.

This tour is a must

Awsome Tour

Glenda_M, Jan 2020
This was an awsome tour with Paul our guide from Birchys. He was very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. Although the topic was a somber one it was an important part of history we should be aware of. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone!

History

Stanley W, Oct 2019
A visit like this is to get a better understanding of the terrible events of WWII. Our guide Paul guided us on a one hour train ride to the concentration camp and provided historical information in preparation for the visit. There is a great deal of information that can be read during this visit and Paul walked us through key areas of the camp to help us grasp what took place at this camp. A very sobering visit. Be sure and wear good walking shoes because there is a lot of walking during the tour and if you don't make the bus from the train station, it is a twenty minute walk to the camp, as well as return to catch the train back to Berlin. But that walking time provided an opportunity to pose our questions to Paul, gain more insight as well as being able to walk along the streets of the town where the camp was located.

Beeindruckend

Marco_G, Jan 2020
