Itinerary
Begin your tour with a guide meet and greet at Friedrichstrasse train station. Ride to the Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum in Oranienburg.
More than 200,000 people were imprisoned in Sachsenhausen between 1936 and 1945. At first, the prisoners were primarily political opponents of the Nazi regime. However, people that were defined by the National Socialists as racially or biologically inferior were later included.
By 1939, there were a large number of citizens from the occupied European states imprisoned here. Tens of thousands of people died of starvation, disease, forced labor and mistreatment, or they were victims of the systematic extermination by the Schutzstaffel, or the SS. Thousands of other prisoners died during the “death marches” that followed the evacuation of the camp in April of 1945. At that time, approximately 3,000 sick prisoners, along with the doctors and nurses who had stayed behind in the camp, were freed by Soviet and Polish soldiers.
This tour features a visit to the punishment cells, gallows, gas chambers and burial pits located inside the prison. Hear stories of prisoner bravery as well as the chilling atrocities that took place at the camp, which now serves as a national memorial to the prisoners who lived and died here. Your tour ends with a return train trip to Berlin.

It was a great experience. Very moving. Our guide, Will was very informative and engaged with the group. If I had one criticism it would be not the guide or the tour but it was advertised as maximum 15 people (small group tour ) and there was 23 ……
Still a great tour though. I would recommend it for sure

Emma was exceptional in sharing her vast knowledge. Truly appreciate all I learned and highly recommend.
Seeing the camp and learning of what took place, of course, was disturbing, heartbreaking, gut wrenching. I like to say we have learned….but unfortunately atrocities in different forms continue.
We all need to learn from such atrocities and truly work to ensure history stops repeating itself.
My heart simply goes out.

It was helpful to have a guide to get there and provide context beforehand. Our guide Xavier did great answering questions and helping us navigate the experience and space as well as the journey back.
I would note that it is very important for the guides for there to be no note taking or recording of the tour in any way other than photos of the sites as is appropriate.
Response from Host, Aug 2026
We couldn’t ask for a nicer review.
It’s fantastic to know you enjoyed discovering Berlin with us.
Making our tours informative and entertaining is always our goal.
Thank you again for your generous feedback.
Thanks and all the best, Insider Tour
Xavier as a guide was excellent in recounting what had taken place at this camp. He pitched this terrible story in my opinion at the right level, ie sympathetically, without downplaying anything that had taken place.

It was a pleasure to have you along and share the city with you.
Wishing you an amazing remainder of your trip.

Visiting Sachsenhausen is a deeply moving experience, but having Rohan as our guide made it truly unforgettable. Visiting a site with such heavy history requires a delicate balance of deep historical rigor, empathy, and respect—and Rohan delivered on every single front.
From the moment the tour began, Rohan demonstrated an incredible depth of knowledge. Rather than just reciting dates and facts, he carefully contextualized the human stories, making the complex and tragic history of the camp deeply resonant. His ability to navigate such solemn material with poise and sensitivity while keeping our group completely engaged throughout was nothing short of brilliant.
He was remarkably attentive to the group, pacing the walk thoughtfully, answering every question with nuance, and ensuring everyone had time and space for personal reflection. It is clear that Rohan is genuinely dedicated to historical education and honoring the memory of those who suffered here.
If you are planning to visit Sachsenhausen, doing so with Rohan is an absolute must. He transformed a heavy day into a profound, highly educational, and unforgettable experience.

Much of it can only truly be felt when you are actually at the site. The feelings of eeriness, dread, and the cold stench of death cannot be described in mere words alone. Our tour guide, Campbell, was amazing.
Response from Host, Aug 2026
What a lovely review to receive. We're thrilled that you enjoyed your time with us and hope the stories of Berlin stay with you for years to come. Thank you so much.
Thanks and all the best,

Firstly you’ll need to buy a train ticket and food when you get to the meeting point
Then you’ll walk 2km when the you arrive to the camp and 2km back
I would expect the guide to stay with you back to the meeting point as there is a train change along the way which can be tricky
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback Dennis.
Regarding the walk to and from the memorial, this is a deliberate part of the experience. Visitors follow much of the same route that many prisoners and forced labourers would have taken upon arriving at Sachsenhausen. While we appreciate that it is a considerable walk, it helps place the memorial in its original setting and gives visitors a better understanding of the scale of the site, the conditions of arrival, and the proximity of the local population. As this is a walking tour of a former concentration camp, there is naturally a significant amount of walking involved.
With regard to the train tickets and bringing food or snacks, this information is included in the tour details on our website and booking platforms before guests book. We always recommend reading the practical information before the tour so that everyone arrives fully prepared. Thank you for mentioning this, as it highlights how important that information is.
Regarding the return journey, you are quite right to raise this. Our guides should accompany the group back to Berlin and assist with the train transfer where needed. We'll discuss your comments internally to ensure we continue delivering a consistent experience for all of our guests.
Thank you again for your feedback. We genuinely appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us.
What an impactful although not easy day. Our guide Rohl (not sure about spelling) was so well informed and passionate about teaching us about not only the cncntrattion camp but also about the history, social and economic conditions that gave rise to the cruelty that took place during that horrible period of human history. I very much appreciated the respectful way that Rohl approached the subject matter. I went with my teenage son and now he wants to read books and learn more about the holocaust. You can read about this horrible period of human history but nothing you really comprehend and internalize it when yog see it in person
