Nice and airy on the trolley, no windows unless necessary. Entertaining and amiable guides. Excellent stops that cover the most important sites. Reasonably priced. We had a great time and will use them again. Also really enjoyed the beautifully restored main departure point, Union Station. It’s a destination in itself. In addition to the usual retail shops they have unique cultural shops.

Knowledgeable drivers. Easy to get off and get back on. Worth the price of the tickets Way easier than walking or trying to drive

I highly recommend you start early to maximize the time at each respective landmark during the tour.

Sandra_L, Jul 2026
We had to wait because the buses were too full. We had to wait about 40 minutes which was difficult for my 83 year old mom.

Great tour and fantastic guide

April_C, Jul 2026
We really liked the bus. It was covered and lots of windows for a nice breeze. The guide was fantastic. I think her name was Birdie. Lots of info I never knew. I would highly recommend this tour!

I was impressed with the number of stops we made along the way. The drivers/guides were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They were accommodating for my mom’s walker. We weren’t able to get off at all of the places we stopped at, so I reserved a second trip for the next day. I highly recommend this way around to see the capital if you have a member of your party with a disability.

Fantastic tour!!

Suzanne_S, Jul 2026
The drivers are so kind and polite!! They narrate the tour and add interesting trivia also!! Fantastic way to see the city!!

Great way to see DC

Amy_D, Jul 2026
This is an open air trolly bus with first come first come seating. The seats are comfortable and the operators are knowledgeable & friendly . My suggestion would be to ride the trolley through each stop before getting off to see anything in particular as once to get in the museums, you lose track of time. The trolleys run from 9 am - 4pm. This way you get to drive by everything and the driver will give you a brief history of everything you see. Shout out to Rooster & Tiny! They were great. Trolleys were clean and have raised seating so you can see from your seats in most directions. Truly enjoyed this tour.

DC narrated tour

Make note of where the hop off spot is if you plan to hop on at that location later. Pay attention to the hop off locations near the selected places you want to see for sure.

Great way to tour the city! Drivers/Tour Guides were Excellent, very professional and humorous! If we are in DC, I would take to the trolley again!

Best way to see DC!

Alexandra_D, Jul 2026
This is a great way to see DC. The drivers are fun, our favorite was Meg she's fantastic, and they'll tell you everything about everything. The price is worth it and because there's just so many things to do and see, it's easier to choose as you go rather than figuring out how to go on your own. It was so hot and there were large groups also using the trolly, so it was sometimes hard to find room to get on, you may have longer wait times which is tough. Some stops let more people off than others, so if you try getting on at a stop that's not as popular, you won't get a seat and you'll have to wait. The Capital, the Jefferson/Lincoln memorial and the White House welcome center are good for moving people as well as Ford's Theater. We were a group of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids (11 and 13yrs old) and we loved it except one of my kids had enough and was hot and hungry, so the white house stop was good for grabbing a drink nearby and cooling off in the White House welcome center and gift shop. We did decide that if the trolly didn't have room for us after that we were going to Uber, but there was room and we didn't get off again. Regardless of how tough it can be getting on the trolly, this is still the best way to see the sights and we're definitely going to go again. The price is good and you'll have the opportunity to get to all the places you want to see. We drove in and parked at Union Station which is stop number 1 for the trolly and everything went smoothly. I definitely recommend this trolly tour for the friendliness, knowledgeability and ease of travel. Bring some water and small snacks but remember that you can't bring any of that in to the buildings if you're going to go inside for a tour or to see a museum. 100 percent recommend!

Good tour, execution needs improvement

Phil_H, Jul 2026
Positives are the route and the sights. Negatives are the inability to "hop on" due to limited capacity. Had to wait at one stop for 50 minutes because 2 consecutive trolleys were too full to board. At that point, we felt that the tour should be renamed "hop off, stay off". Have done these in several other cities and unfortunately, the tour guides in DC were the worst that we've experienced. Duke was good, enjoyed the time we spent in his trolley. Big K was not so good. It would seem that an important attribute for a guide would be to be able to communicate clearly. Big K seemed like a nice person who gives a decent effort but many on our trolley we're commenting that we couldn't understand what she was saying.

Informative and convenient

Lynne_L, Jul 2026
It was great to be able to get on and off when I wanted to explore something, but it was just as enjoyable to listen to our driver Duke tell us about the city and some of the museums.

Directionally Challenged.

Jennine_A, Jul 2026
Getting around Washing DC is very difficult if you've never been there before. Love the Hop On Hop Off (HOHO) concept but.... Our biggest problem was when we opened the HOHO map, we could see where the stops were but could NOTE tell where WE are on the map. Flipping between the HOHO map and regular Maps was extremely difficult. Also found that the stops were not well marked. Woud recommend with caution.

Good Experience

Jerome_M, Jul 2026
Knowledgeable tour guide. The location for picking up the tour was easy to find. The tour bus makes seeing DC fun.

TARYN_H, Jul 2026
You do run the risk of lack of seat availability during busy seasons, but I would recommend this company again because we saw more sites than we would have by zig-zagging around town using our own transportation and cheaper than Uber or Lift.

Way too long to wait

Markus_P, Jul 2026
After 90 min waiting in a huge line, we gave up. Don’t go there. Not enough buses. Everyone got annoyed

DC Trolley Tour - Thank you Viator!

Brian_W, Jul 2026
Great tour! The bus is high up so you have a good view. The tour guide was knowledgeable and very courteous. The challenge we had was that half the tour was cut short (stops cut out) because of restrictions in DC for July 4th. This was not the fault of Viator or the Trolley tour company. But Viator still issued us a refund. Very kind of them. We love Viator!

Improper

Debra_H, Jul 2026
We used THEM for trolley off and on ride were not told it closed at 4. Cost was $157 and we rode for less than two hours.

Only start this at Union Station

Gwen_S, Jul 2026
It was very difficult to get to any point on the trolley unless you were at the starting point at Union Station. I tried but couldn’t get on so never did connect with my tour. Very disappointing to waste that money.

JANICE_Z, Jul 2026
The trip is very thorough, but it is difficult to find the stops sometimes. We missed a trolley at the Smithsonian stop because we couldn’t figure out where the stop actually was. Fortunately, the next trolley stopped when we waved it down though we still weren’t at the official stop.

Walk alot

Terry_N, Jul 2026
Some confusion on pickup spots. But this could have been due to road closures. Did this tour to cut down on walking. Still a lot of walking

Great Tour

Robert_B, Jun 2026
Guide Duane and driver Abraham were fantastic. Duane is so knowledgable and versed in history. Would recommend to anyone.

Mark_W, Jun 2026
It took a long time to load and unload people at the stops. The Arlington National Cemetery you are unable to see the major things without getting off and walking to the sites. And then you have to wait for the next shuttle (20 min or so). It took forever. We had several different drivers because of the process, with some beginning much better than others. The DC City tour (which was part of the same ticket) was good. Our last driver was awesome.

Good way to quickly see many of the landmarks in DC. We enjoyed it. Driver gave us interesting information

7 Paid Tours

Roy_R, Jun 2026
Loved the trolley, roof to block sun, huge open windows for breeze, padded seats for comfort, drivers were very informative with narrated information vs other tours with taped recordings that you can’t hear

No thanks

Barbara_P, Jun 2026
We chose this tour to do the cherry blossoms. They closed a few of the stops and didn't disclose this ahead of time. The bus drivers were all very nice but the people taking tickets at the start were aggressive. I wouldn't do this tour again.

Staff was friendly, personable, and knowledgeable about the history of the city. Our final tour guide Rashad was so much fun! I highly recommend this hop on and off tour to see all the sights in one day.

Mary_B, Jun 2026
Once we jumped off at stop 3 we were told the next trolley will continue to take us to next stops. It took us back to union station. Due to the Pride Parade street shut down we kept getting taken back to union station. The drivers were amazing and friendly!!

know before you go

Joseph_S, Jun 2026
they should know what they want to see to know where to stop. 1 day is not enough, so do your homework.

Could have been better

Meredith_C, Jun 2026
The wait time for the trolleys can be long. We had to walk about 1/4 mile to another stop as the one we wanted (1st one) was not available at the time. Then we waited for about 45 minutes to an hour for a trolley as 2 full ones stopped by. The planning by the part of the company itself was not sufficient
