Catch a wave of excitement as you learn to surf during this beginner’s, small-group, lesson in Maui. Join no more than five other students for an introduction to the fundamentals of surfing, including ocean awareness, water safety, riding skills, and proper etiquette. You’re guaranteed to be surfing in one easy lesson, or your next lesson is free. An instructor, surfboard and rash guard are all included.

This was my grandson’s activity. He was so nervous to do this but after meeting Mike and the safety lesson, he was so excited. Mike aka Uncle Mike was incredible in his instruction and making the students comfortable. For a kid that didn’t want to do it at all bc he was so scared, he was wanting to go surfing every day after his lesson with Mike. The girls that do the check in and photography was awesome too. Over all a terrific experience. Would definitely recommend it.

The Surf Shack was great, my son and I took lessons with Viking and he had us up and surfing in no time. If you’re visiting Maui you gotta hit up the Surf Shack for lessons!

I wasn’t one of the surfers but my family of 8 said it was a lot of fun and enjoyed it. I was a spect from the shore and saw that they all got up.

Surf Shack was very professional and organized in how they ran their process. They split us up into smaller groups of 5 (my group had 5 anyway) so that we had more attention from each of our individual guides. Our guide, Mike, was awesome. He was very thorough and knowledgeable, and made sure we understood everything we needed to in order to have a fun and safe time... thank you, Mike! They had someone take photos of the experience which were available for purchase afterward, I decided to purchase the full package and got accused of using AI to generate them by friends... that's how good they were! (or how much they didn't believe I could surf lol)
The only thing I wish is that the waves we surfed were a little bigger, but that's beyond anyone's control. It was also a bit crowded at the spot we surfed but it's Maui in June so to be expected. All-in-all the experience gets a well-deserved 5-stars and we recommend Surf Shack to anyone who wants a great first-time surfing experience!

We had an amazing experience from start to finish: my family of 5 had the sweetest and cutest instructor, Sofia! She was so great with my kids, knowledgeable and patient and got them all up and surfing quickly!!

Had a great time and Austin, our instructor, was patient and helpful. Highly suggest wearing clothing that protects the knees. We didn’t think about scraping our knees against the board while getting on. I highly recommend this place.

My daughter and husband took their surf lesson and enjoyed it immensely. The class begins with a detailed introduction on how to handle the board; afterward, they were taken out to the ocean with the group to catch some waves. The instructors are very professional and always attentive to every single person. My only regret is not having signed up for the lessons myself, but I am sure I will return to Maui and give them a call to take another class—this time, all together.

It was really fun! I recommend everyone do this. It was a 30 min car ride from the port (we were on a cruise) and we had plenty of time. The instructors were very good and we got plenty of time to surf, they also take pictures which was fun to look at after.

We had an absolute blast! The location was perfect- not too deep and lots of small waves perfect for beginners. You don’t have to be a in great shape either. Mike was really friendly, encouraging, and fun. He made it so easy. Jess took amazing pictures as well, really high quality. We’ll never forget this experience and highly recommend!

This was incredibly fun and beginner friendly! I had never surfed before but I got up and was able to surf majority of the waves. My friend and I had a blast! Would have loved to do it 10x times while we were there.

The guides were great at showing how to surf on land first then got into the water. There were 3 guides in the water helping people catch a wave, and had a small line to the side so people could go right to a guide to catch the next wave after the previous person catches the wave. Was able to surf a good amount of waves and had plenty of photos taken by them. Also, you dont need to know how to swim because the bottom of the ocean at the place they are at is not that deep and you can reach the ground with your feet.

Sophy was the best , most patience instructed I never dreamed I would stand up! I am a 62 year old and can swim! The photographer was awesome so now I have proof I did it! It was not on my bucket list but it should have been This is a must do!

Surfing was an incredible experience from start to finish. The instructors gave clear, detailed guidance and made sure we had everything we needed—surf shoes, boards, and rash guards were all provided. The location was easy to find, which made the day even smoother. They even had a photographer on hand capturing some amazing moments, so we could relive the experience afterward.
