Hike Maui’s Waihee Ridge, a scenic 4-mile (6.6 kilometers) round-trip out-and-back trail in the West Maui Mountains, without the prospect of getting lost on this private guided hiking tour. Meet your guide past the trailhead gate and hike for about 2–3 hours, or less if you’d like to turn back early.

The lower gate to the trailhead opens at 7am, and we will be meeting about a mile past the gate at the top parking lot to start the hike. (If you are staying in West Maui it is recommend to take the Honoapiʻilani Highway South, also known as Hawaii Route 30 South)

I’m very glad we did this hike with a guide. Our friends did it without one and regretted it. Andy was very knowledgeable and planned the hike well so that we could have the best experience. Getting there for 7 am was smart as we didn’t have to fight for a parking spot, the temperature was perfect and not too hot, and the trail wasn’t crowded since we went early. He even brought snacks and beverages for us as well as recommended local restaurants and things to do. Fantastic time!

This is an amazing hike! Slippery as promised, and I'd bring hiking poles / think they should be provided at this price point. You absolutely do NOT need to pay $159 to have a guide do it with you. Andrew is very kind and knowledgable, but spends a lot of time talking and making unnecessary stops every 3 to 4 minutes, so that there "isn't time" to go up to the top. I understand that for some it may be too slippery, but I didn't pay this much, plus the hour drive/expensive uber each way (transport isn't included) to do half of a 3 hour hike.
Luckily, there were a few in the group who broke off and went the rest of the way while he waited / head back down with the 1 person who didn't want to go to the top.
We were still able to do the entire hike in 3 hours (start at 7, done by 10), -and the excursion is advertised as 4 hours, so I'm not sure why he kept pushing that we may not make it to the summit - I believe it was because he had plans afterwards to see Santa jumping out of a helicopter at 11:30am. I think there is also a safety concern if it gets rainy/more slippery - but weather was fine on this day.
Would have also been helpful to know it was going to be 3 not 4 hours (as it says on viator) to plan the rest of the day. I avoided booking a sunset Haleakala tour that started at 1pm as I thought it would be too tight - by the time I got a message that we'd be done by 10 (not 11am) that tour sold out so I couldn't adjust my itinerary. If you don't go the whole way, and are in decent shape, it'd take even less time.
If you go solo, plan to get there at 7am so you can park at the top lot. Better visibility as well at that time and nice sunrise view over the water!

This hike has everything - great scenery, history lessons, local recommendations, and awesone conversations. Without Andrew, we would have missed so many things going on our own (it wasn't just about getting to the top). He was knowledgeable, thoughtful, personable, and safely conscious. We highly recommend doing this!

This is an amazing hike . Andy was our guide and he was wonderful . He does the hike at your pace and always makes sure you are comfortable. Andy is very knowledgeable about the environment and local flora . He gave us great recommendations for places to eat and for things to do in Maui .

Fantastic guide - I have a severe fear of heights and would not have made this trip without the very suttle support from Andrew. He is able to adjust the experience to the audience.
Besides that, it is a beautiful hike in an amazing scenary. You can do it on your own, I would book Andrew anytime again and definitely recommend doing that - it gives you the full experience as he also knows about the surroundings and can give you information along the way

My husband and I came to Maui for our honeymoon and really wanted to go on a hike and this one was absolutely perfect! Andrew was an amazing guide. The views were spectacular!! Andrew even gave us recommendations for more things to do around this island. I highly recommend this to anybody who wants to be active (the earlier the better) and learn more about Maui!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful hike/journey up to the top of the Waihee Ridge in Maui. The views were spectacular on the day we went, and Andrew was extremely helpful, not only by providing lots of relevant information about the area's history, but also with great suggestions for other, less known places to visit and things to do while visiting here. We loved all the different micro-climates and changing environments on the hike up, and just couldn't get enough of the spectacular views. Andrew graciously adapted to our slower pace, and gave us useful tips for safely traversing any steep or slick areas along the 4 mile hike. He has an amazing amount of experience with travel and hiking, and we felt this was one of our favorite adventures so far in Maui. Definitely good value for this adventure!

This hike provided outstanding views and a friendly & knowledgeable guide who adjusted the hike to our abilities. We are not fitness pros, but were able to hike to incredible viewing spots. Andy is an experienced guide and shared his love for and knowledge of Maui even beyond the hike. He was focused on us enjoying this tour and getting the most out of our trip overall.
