Itineraries for Your Trip to Houston
3 Days in Houston for First Timers
I'm always impressed by the variety of activities that keep me busy when visiting Houston. Even when I've done everything from touring Space Center Houston to admiring the massive amount of street art, a new exhibit or tour gives me a new view of H-Town.
When you have three days in Houston, there's plenty of time to check out the city's food scene, visit some of the more unique museums like the National Museum of Funeral History, or explore nearby Galveston. Plan to do a lot of walking.
If you only have time for one thing, make it a street art tour.
Houston is known for its hot and humid weather, with cooler winter days and a chance of rain.
A city tour is the best way to learn about a new city. If you can, choose a private tour to have the guide all to yourself. Cruise through downtown Houston in an enclosed golf cart and view historic buildings as you get insider tips on where to eat, drink, and explore during your stay.
Houston's known for its many craft breweries; you'd be remiss not to try a few while in the city. Among the top stops, head to the East End to enjoy a flight of brews at Equal Parts Brewing and then try the iconic brand Tejas at Giant Texas Distillers.
Houston is a city of museums, and you may want to visit more than a few museums in your three days there. Be sure to visit the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum and the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences, both top picks for people of all ages.
Check out Houston's street art scene when you want to see art outside of a museum. Private tours of Houston's street art scene take you to some off-the-beaten-path spots and share information about the artists along the way. There will be lots of opportunities for photos.
Now that you've had a chance to see some of Houston, venture out of the city to the Gulf Coast with a visit to Galveston. Visit the rides at Pleasure Pier, drive by the Port of Galveston, and see the Gulf of Mexico at the seawall before returning to Houston.
End your trip to Houston with a walk on the darker side. A ghost tour and pub crawl is a fun way to learn about Houston's spooky past while visiting historic buildings like La Carafe, the city's oldest and most haunted bar.
