Etna in January

Bravo Luca! So our tour took place in January after, and during, a snowfall. I was nervous about the roads but Luca navigated the snowy conditions perfectly and safely. The van is equipped with snow tires and he is very experienced driving in these conditions. Luca helped us see a breathtaking Etna by taking the time to describe all the flora and fauna (caterpillar nests, rabbit and fox tracks in the snow, etc) as we hiked to the rim of the northern vent. The experience was beautiful with all the snow. Luca is so personable, professional and passionate about what he does that you cannot help but enjoy being in his company. He showed us lava tunnels and more. He knows the area exceptionally well and even when the paths were covered in snow, he knew the way. Also, he had some better shoes for us to use on the hike and some hiking poles which was so helpful! But bring your own toboggans and gloves. You will want them. The winery lunch was also exceptional. Since we visited during the off-season, we were taken to an alternative winery - Emilio Sciacca - which was fantastic! Both the food and the wines we tasted were exceptional. This Etna excursion was definitely a highlight of our Sicily trip. Take the tour. Do not try to visit Etna in the winter on your own.

An Excellent Half Day Excursion

Our guide Saro was very knowledgeable and funny. The hiking part is not very difficult. The tour goes a little more than halfway up the summit but there are multiple craters throughout the mountain and we could stand at the edge of them. Also the views were beautiful. If you don’t have your own hiking boots, borrow theirs.

We had a great time on...

We had a great time on our tour. Our guide Alessandro picked us up at our hotel in Taormina. He was friendly, and professional. He drove a comfortable van through the countryside to 3 beautiful places to sample some excellent wines. One served a lovely meal, the others served small dishes to complement the wines. Wines were available for purchase but there was no hard sell, which we appreciated. All told it was a great day.

An offer you shouldn’t refuse

When you are about to spend your day with 6 complete strangers and a guide anything can happen, and usually does. Ultimately, whether you enjoy your tour or not comes down to two things, your guide and the company behind the tour. In this case, starting with the touring company, I had every confidence this would meet or exceed my expectations and I was not disappointed. The communication regarding every component of the tour was not only timely, but extremely accurate and very professional. I would not hesitate to consider them for any other experience going forward. My wife is a self proclaimed Godfather freak, she has seen the films over 100 times (except #3, no one could sit through that one that many times) and has had this tour on her bucket list for the last 7 years when we first saw Taormina while in a cruise. She can recite almost the entire dialog of 1 and 2 verbatim so she was going to be a hard one to impress. Orazio, our guide for the tour, was more than up to the task. Not only did he impress our entire group, but we all learned so many things that were completely foreign to us, even though the first film is now over 50 years old. To be able to have my wife tell me all the things she didn’t know was the most impressive thing I heard in our 50 years of marriage! Well done Orazio.

We had an amazing time on this sailing tour! Emilio was a fantastic host—friendly, informative, and made the whole experience great. They took us to a few different bays where we swam, snorkeled, and paddle boarded. After swimming, we were rewarded with wine, bread, cheese, pears, and other snacks. Everything was well organized and we highly recommend this tour overall if you’re looking for a fun mix of activity and relaxing on the water!

So much fun!

Orazio picked us up from our hotel, along with 4 other guests, and we were off to the wineries! The first stop was absolutely stunning and the wine was amazing. Some of the best we’ve had! For our second stop, we enjoyed a farm to table lunch at a local spot and the terrace where we ate offered amazing views. Orazio was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, a safe driver and FUN! Would do this tour again when we come back for our next visit.

A Must With Family & Friends

Experience is everything that is detailed and more, got to try foods I had before and new foods I would be scared to try. If you have an allergy or don’t like something that is offered hosts are more than accommodating to change something or offer something different. There isn’t a lot of knowledge based talking regarding the foods, short and informative information regarding the food and what makes it special. Our tour guide Giovanni was lovely, knowledgable, and upbeat. He gave some good hints and tips on the food and where to go and on best experiences and places to visit the island to get the best experience of Siciliy. There wasn’t a lot of walking involved, I had expected a lot more, so anyone that is put off by the thought of a lot of walking this tour is prefect as it is short stops between restaurants.

We echo all the positive comments already left… this is one experience you need to book today! Frederico was an excellent and patient chef. I enjoyed my time at the market place where we got to sample fruits we do not have in the US, including a two pound lemon where you eat the pith. We made so many different kinds of pasta and eggplant parmesan and feasted on an array of cheeses and fruits. We had a group of eight and by the end of four hours we felt like we had six new friends. Truly a “must-do” in Taormina!
