When to visit

The weather in Seaside is at its finest in summer, with the hottest and driest temperatures in July and August. August is also when the annual Seaside Beach Volleyball event—the largest such tournament in the US—takes place. Come in September to watch interpreters from Pacific Northwest Living Historians harvest salt, just as members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition did, or opt for a March visit to attend the annual Oregon Ghost Conference.

Getting around

Seaside is designed with pedestrians in mind, and strolling up and down its Promenade is a fun way to spend your time in the city. You can also speed things up by renting a bicycle or a 4-wheel Surrey bike, which is similar to a bicycle rickshaw and makes carting your friends or family around a breeze. Many visitors bring a car or rent one to get to Seaside, though tours from Portland that include transportation are available.

Traveler tips

If you like arcade games or vintage entertainment, head to the Funland Entertainment arcade for a round of Fascination. This skeeball-esque game, a mainstay at holiday destinations across the United States back in the 1920s, is now hard to come by. The goal is to roll balls into five different holes as fast as you can. Multiple players in the arcade play at once and the fastest to achieve the goal wins a prize.
