Things to do in  Natchez

Originally called “Belfast” in homage to the owner’s Irish heritage, Stanton Hall is a Greek Revival historical home commissioned by and for Dr. Frederick Stanton in the 19th century. Evidence points to Thomas Rose as the builder and architect of the building, which later became Stanton College before earning its place as a National Historic Landmark in 1974 and becoming a museum.

The oldest Catholic cathedral still active in Mississippi, St. Mary Basilica was constructed in a Gothic Revival style in 1842 and consecrated in 1886. The basilica—formally called the Cathedral of Our Lady Sorrow—was the seat of the diocese until 1977, is listed on the National Register, and was partially restored in 2001.

Longwood is a historic mansion in Natchez and the country's largest octagonal house. It’s also referred to as Nutt’s Folly, attributed to its original owner, Haller Nutt, who unluckily found his mansion’s upper floors unfinished when his builders returned north in the build-up to the Civil War. This unfinished mansion is still prized and is open today for tours.
