What a wonderful tour. Our guide was Matteo and he was incredible. Wonderful insight on Venice, lots of fascinating history and he pointed out so many interesting things that I had walked right past in previous days. Matteo was kind, warm, funny and made sure everyone in our group was keeping up. Such a great guide and fantastic value for the cost. Thank you Matteo!

Itinerary

Your walking tour starts in Campo San Geremia, a picturesque square in the quiet, tucked-away district of Cannaregio. Experience Venice as locals live it, far from the usual crowds of tourists. Listen to the story of the square’s unusual and comic history. You’ll be in a group of only 15 people maximum (or a private group if option selected), so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

Cross over Cannaregio’s tranquil foot bridges into the Jewish Quarter—the origin of the word “ghetto.” Step inside the church of the Madonna dell’Orto, famous for its Tintoretto paintings. Learn why the stunning facade of the Palazzo Mastelli del Cammello is nicknamed “Camel House.”

Get a peek at a historic gondola factory as you wind your way toward one of the city’s star attractions: Rialto Bridge. Listen to your guide recount stories about the traditions and little-known stories behind the 16th-century landmark. The tour ends here in the heart of Venice, but you’ll be well-positioned to continue exploring on your own.

This tour will not show you the typical tourist attractions, however, if you want to see less visited canals, alleys, etc., and get recommendations for places where the locals eat, this is a good tour for you. We also visited what was historically the Jewish ghetto, which was quite interesting.

Fabulous Walk Back in History

John_M, Mar 2026
Wonderful tour through the ghetto and the off-the-beaten-path Venice. Guide was outstanding, and the walk was manageable for anyone. Some of my favorite memories and photos are from this tour, and will do it again if we are ever again in Venice.

Beautiful tour

Colleen_C, Feb 2026
We loved this tour. Nicolo was a wonderful guide. He made the tour fun. We learned a lot about the area. The walk was not too difficult but there are a lot of bridges for anyone with trouble walking this is probably not the tour for you.

Fabulous start to our Venetian break

Amanda_L, Feb 2026
Worth every penny, this tour was a great way to understand and orientate yourself in the city. Sebastiano was such a great guide, he had a genuine passion for the city and for us to enjoy the tour, he made the tour so interesting and fun. His recommendations were five star and we are so pleased that we booked this tour.

Interesting tour with an excellent guide

Kerry_K, Feb 2026
Highly recommend this tour. We appreciated having a quick orientation to the whole city on a map for context and a little dramatic stage setting before setting off on our walk to Cannereggio. Sebastiano was a fantastic guide, knowledgeable and charismatic and patient with everyone's questions. The tour had a comfortable pace, and the listening devices made sure we didn't miss any of Sebastiano's interesting and funny narration. He even kept our teenager's interest throughout. Well worth it!

An Unforgettable Walk with a True Venetian

TraceyAnn_G, Jan 2026
Nico was an excellent guide — personable, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. The tour was interactive and felt personal, and it was clear how deeply he loves Venice and its history. Along the way we even passed his elementary school and Alice’s (who was in training) high school, which added a wonderful local touch. The tour covered a wide range of topics, from how the city actually functions — water supply, transportation, and daily life — to the history of the ghetto in the 1400s and even mafia activity from about 40 years ago. It was thoughtful, informative, and full of insights you won’t find at the Doge’s Palace, but instead answers the questions you naturally have while wandering the city. After the tour, Nico was generous with recommendations and guidance. He’s a fantastic representative of Venice — pragmatic, honest, and passionate about what needs to happen to preserve the city and keep it alive for the future. Highly recommend.

Stroll Through Hidden Venice

Mary_P, Jan 2026
Two hours to learn of Venice from someone raised here, to learn of their city, their neighborhood, a bit of its history, and much of its character. This tour, even in the rain, was a pleasure.

Thanks Sebastian!

Thought we would hear more about life in Venice but we only got those details when asking specific questions. Felt very general and didn’t hear anything you couldn’t have googled quickly or figured out with context clues. Guide was very kind and suggested a street to look for food on (Sebastiano).
