Not worth

Caterina_L, Nov 2025
The money is not worth the trip , u re getting a double charge ; other companies are pricing this trip for no more than half of it. Furthermore u get a driver and tour guide but u need only one person. None of them is able to communicate in fluent English . I will suggest to find another tour …:(

Thank you very much for your review. We are glad to hear that you are feeling better as our guide let us know that you were unwell on the tour. As for the fees, we aim to pay a living wage for our guides that is fair and honors their hard work. Drivers for this tour are not required to speak English, as the guide fulfills this role. Great day in Nikko!

Erin_H, Jul 2025
Such a fantastic day in Nikko with Yoshi as our guide. He was a wealth of information and made every beautiful site more meaningful and memorable. Kegon Falls was breathtaking and even with dense cloud cover at the higher elevations we had an amazing experience.

How are you doing today ? I hope all of you are well. I think that you are living your daily life as usual in your hometown. Thanks for your message to Viator review. I'm very happy to hear that. I hope you had a lot of beautiful memories in Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara and Osaka and I look forward to seeing all of you again in Tokyo. Thanks for your cooperation. Sincerely yours,

A great day to see Nikko in the snow!

Christopher_D, Apr 2025
What an unforgettable day! It snowed in Nikko in early April which made for some picturesque sights but also some daunting travelling challenges. Given that it was raining all day in Tokyo that day, my cousin and I figured we would rather deal with snow than rain. Hiromi-san and our taxi driver, Goto-san, we're great that day! The Toshogu Shrine was breathtaking in the snow! After the Toshogu Shrine and Rinno-ji, our next major activity was driving up and down a mountain on the Iroha slopes, famous for its 48 curves! We witnessed 2 cars get stuck in the snow on the way up. Fortunately for us, there was a big tour bus ahead of us and we were able to follow its tracks up and down the mountain with relative ease. It was an excellent day. Hiromi-san provided much more background on Nikko than I had in a previous tour of Nikko. My cousin, who had never been to Japan prior to this trip, thoroughly enjoyed the experience too.

Thank you for your review. It was a truly unforgettable tour. At the entrance to Irohazaka, the police were checking whether we had winter tires or not, but we were not stopped because our driver had prepared them. I thought, "Thank goodness, now I can show Kegon Falls to them." But it soon became a big regret. Every time we rounded a curve on Irohazaka, the snow got deeper, and I saw some cars stuck in the deep snow. Some people were fighting, or had been hit. Luckily, there was a large bus just before us, so we slowly followed its tire tracks. Irohazaka is a one-way road, so we couldn't go back. We were so relieved when we safely passed the 20 curves and reached the top. I actually wanted to take a toilet break for the guests, but the driver said, "If we turn into the parking lot here, our tires will get stuck in the new snow and we won't be able to get out.", and you said, "Let's go back to Tokyo!". So, we went straight down the 28 curves without stopping anywhere. There was a little bit less snow on the downhill slope, but there was a risk of slipping if we braked too much. While we were slowly descending, I was hoping to take you all safely to Tokyo. I prayed for the safety. Finally, we made it. I was really grateful to our excellent driver, for helping us get to the foot of the mountain. I always think it is the most important to be safe since I had started guiding. I really felt so on that day. Thank you for your message. Be healthy. Your guide, Hiromi

Enjoyable Nikko tour!

Daryl_C, Oct 2024
Had a great time visiting Nikko. Our tour guide Steve was fantastic and accommodating. We took the Akechidaira ropeway to the observation deck - magnificent view of Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Waterfall and the mountains! We also experienced Kegon Waterfall upclose. As we’re foodies and asked Steve to recommend the best place in Nikko for lunch, he helped to make reservation at The Japanese Restaurant in Ritz Carlton Nikko. The lunch and sake were very good! We also visited the famous Toshogu Shrine and Steve gave us an insightful tour of the place and its history. Our driver was also very nice and took great care of us.

Nikko was fantastic. Our tour guide, Koba, and our driver were great. Nikko is a ‘must’ for anyone touring Japan. The shrines are amazing to see and the mountains and forest setting spectacular.

Get to know the best Nikko has to offer

Guillaume_B, Apr 2023
This tour was the most special tour we had during our trip to Japan. The experience, knowledge, attitude and flexibility Ikuko shared with us was invaluable. We enjoyed Nikko, the temples, tge food, little stories and anecdotes that made us feel welcomed. We would definitely recommend.

Tosho-gu & Nikko Pudding

Elliot_S, Dec 2022
Karen is a warm and friendly guide with plenty of knowledge on Nikko and the surrounding area. We visited Tosho-gu, Rinno-ji Temple, Kanmangafuchi Abyss, Shinkyo Bridge and Tamozawa Villa. The highlights of the tour were seeing the beauty of Toshu-gu and getting to try the delightful Nikko Pudding. Thank you for a fun day out Karen!

Response from Host, Jan 2023

Thank you for taking time to give me your kind review. I also enjoyed walking with you. Please come back again to Nikko for Pudding! Karen

Perfect day in Nikko

Tristan_B, Dec 2022
This has to be the best tour I have taken on my travels. Nikko is secretly a beautiful city even during the winter months. It is not as busy as many of the other locations we visited. The town of Nikko is pretty and easy to navigate with lots of good shops and food. Our guide Yumi was the highlight of the experience. She was very fun and extremely knowledgeable about the area. She knew the city well and navigated everything very efficiently. The tour itself is a mix between shrines, temples and natural beauty. The Kanman gorge was my favourite part and tokugawa ieyasu‘a resting place is an amazing place to visit for history buffs. Yumi was cheerful and talkative, giving us great insight into Japanese culture outside of Tokyo. It was a perfect day trip and would recommend it to anyone wanting to retreat from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo.

Response from Host, Jan 2023

Thank you for submitting this most honorable review. Everything was done with your help to make the tour enjoyable and safe. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We look forward to having the opportunity to visit Japan again! Yumi
