You can choose from a variety of Kino prints, with some costing extra, but the extra cost wasn't insane. The studio setting was nice and comfortable, clear communication, and simple construction techniques are easy to accomplish in the time given. I really enjoyed this experience and left with the altered pieces that I can wear separately or together.

Great to work with.

Nikki_G, Apr 2026
The ladies were great to work with! It was easy to pick and create our kimono. They took great care of my 11 year old while I work on my kimono. Also, they put my son's name on his kimono with vinyl. Super cute!

Loved it, would happily recommend to others!

Wonderful kimono experience.

Fantastic experience! They were very friendly and helpful, and the kimonos that we made were gorgeous.

Highly recommend

We had a great time! Everyone was really helpful and nice. I would absolutely recommend this for other people. I'm a big person so I knew that more than likely I wouldn't be able to get one for myself. I might have been able to find a womans kimono that fit me, because they had a lot to choose from, but I was thrilled to get some for my kids too. I'm almost 6ft and over 300lbs so I'm a hard sell lol. I did get an obi for me. I plan on framing my kids kimonos so we can keep them safe and display them. I am so sorry if I didn't put them on the kids correctly, I promise that I tried lol

It’s a special experience

You will arrive at a ladies home in the older district. At first, you’ll think your loss not in the right place, but you are. They have preowned kimonos that you can choose from and then they cut it to fit you and you help them tape up your seam, etc., and pick out your different parts of the kimono and colors you like.So it’s a really unique experience. On average, we spent an extra $55-$60 each on a female and a male kimono. You don’t have to, but I couldn’t even find the free ones they talked about. We were on a cruise though and were all of our commodities to dinner one night and they were truly appreciated. Even if you So it’s a really unique experience. You do not make a kimono as the name implies. The process is to choose a kimono and then they encourage you to cut it in half. You end up with a skirt and jacket not a kimono. Not all kimonos are included in the price. Many are priced $20, $40 or $60 extra. There is a large selection and you have to exam each one to make sure it's long enough and not stained. It can be difficult if you have an issue with making decisions, and the staff is not happy to have to refold the kimonos if you need to exam a lot of them, as you can imagine. Once you have chosen a kimono they take you up some steep and narrow stairs to the dressing area. Both men and women are in the one room so wear an under shirt since anything else will be bulky under the kimono. The "rental" of the accessories is only to dress you in the kimono in the shop. You cannot leave the premises but you can buy these accessories. After you are dressed you can take pictures and then get undressed. You pay for your kimono if you chose one that is not included in the price and accessories if you decide to buy them there. The time allotted of 90 mins was not enough and they had to rush our dressing. The attendant explained at the beginning that they were not a professional kimono dresser so I suppose the end result was pretty good, especially since they were rushed.

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Thank you for participating in this experience. Even staff members who do not have professional dressing qualifications can wear kimonos beautifully, and the best part of this experience is that you can wear a kimono just like the real thing. We encourage you to try on a kimono you made yourself. Thank you.

Kimonos

JoAnne_N, Oct 2025
Unfortunatly i was a little dissapointed in this experience, there was no information given or any history. Be aware that there could be an extra cost for kimono. There was only a small selection of kimonos included without an extra cost . Its an interesting idea but do not believe worth the cost

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Hello. I'm sorry for the disappointment. We've made the basic fee very affordable so that people from all countries can participate. Wearing a kimono is extremely difficult, and it's said that only 1% of the Japanese population can wear one. This experience aims to make wearing a kimono easier by remaking a kimono, so if you don't have a good understanding of its background, it may not be convincing. Explaining the history of the kimono is not included in the experience, so we won't proactively talk about it, but I'm sure they would have answered any questions.

Wonderful!

Penny_C, Oct 2025
It was a simple process. The kimonos are beautiful. Oto Ha was very helpful. I came away with information and a beautiful kimono!

Highly recommend!!!

This was such a great experience! Picking out a beautiful kimono and customizing It to how you want! I’m a bigger woman but they made It possible for me to fit in It which i loved! All the ladies who work there are a pleasure as well. I HIGHLY recommend anyone who comes to Tokyo to experience this!

Absolutely happy with this experience

Polina_P, Sep 2025
In the workshop you are given an opportunity to choose and fit a vintage kimono and all the accessories necessary to wear it properly as well as friendly guidance through the fitting and dressing process. The kimonos vary a lot, so you will be able to find a suitable one. There are some basic ones, they are included in the price — but if you want something more sophisticated there is an extra charge. I paid 11k ¥ for the full set of kimono, collar, obi and so on — and I assume the experience s totally worth trying.

Great Time

Kathy_S, Aug 2025
Beautiful experience. The Kimonos were lovely. I enjoyed asking several questions about Kimonos and the history. The ladies were friendly and kind. The only advice I would add is to possibly have a small section where a history / information about the tradition and wearing of Kimonos is told ( i like to learn), but I asked enough questions. Nonetheless, I would still highly recommend !! There are several Kimonos that are included in the price, however, I wanted a more fancy one so I purchased one of the more elaborate ones. The prices for the ones not included were not unreasonable. Great experience and I would go back.

Lovely experience

Esther_P, Aug 2025
This was a lovely experience. The ladies were so nice and patient with my daughters. The kimonos are vintage and beautiful. We had a great time.

Amazing Authentic Experience

anyafitch, Aug 2025
Very authentic experience. Is in someone’s beautiful home. I initially got lost but they helped me to find it. Good price and they will take pictures for you. You can also pay extra for a nicer fabric or to buy the add ons. They were also all very helpful with assisting in the making of it when I got stuck.

Must do

Karen_A, May 2025
Wonderful experience. The ladies who work there are friendly and very helpful. My teenage daughter and I had the best time and left looking fabulous!

Excellent opportunity to be creative

Jennifer_C, May 2025
I am so glad I did this. First of all, I walked most of the way from Chiyoda City to this, and being able to spend some time in a residential area was so much more interesting than staying only in the more touristy areas (though those are fun too!). The experience itself was not as challenging as I was sure it would be going in. It involved hemming the waist of a kimono. As long as you can cut, fold and iron, you should be fine. And if you can't do those things, the staff there are prepared to help! They have a ton of options in terms of colors and textures, going through the different fabrics was an experience in and of itself. In short, if you think this is something you'd enjoy, you will.

Awesome

Ioannis_N, Apr 2025
The best experience we had in Tokyo. Attentive, humorous and engaging. We spent 90 minutes learning and making a kimono! Definitely recommended!!

Recommended! Amazing experience! Lovely people!

GlennAge_K, Apr 2025
Thank you so much for the beautiful kimonos! Very charming and welcoming people! My girlfriend and I liked the experience of picking out a kimono and getting recommendations. We also got to know how to dress up a kimono. I recommend booking a visit here if you want a vintage kimono (good prices) (both women and men).

Wonderful experience!...

Ashli_R, Apr 2025
Wonderful experience! Everyone here was so lovely and made our trip really special, I highly recommend this!

Fantastic experience!!!

Delise_L, Apr 2025
This was a great thing to do!! The ladies were super cute and helpful. It was such an incredible experience being dressed in a traditional kimono and ubi. And having the little things explained. Not all the kimonos are included in the price, my kimono was 6,000 yen extra, and so was the ubi. So after paying for my girls and myself, I spent 20,000 yen. Well worth it though!!! We had such a great time!

Soooo much fun🩷

Kathryn_L, Mar 2025
So much fun! Awesome selection of kimonos is choose from. Friendly staff and an eclectic selection mix of people from around the world made for a great experience and lots of fun,

Fun

Tamika_N, Mar 2025
Really fun experience. You learn how to manipulate a kimono so that you can easily wear it on your own quickly. The ladies were very nice and friendly.

Fantastic time and such an amazing range of beautiful kimonos. Absolutely lovely people. Thankyou very much for a great experience 😊

You should do it!!

Monica_H, Nov 2024
Do you want a fun experience? You get to wear a kimono and can keep it and I highly recommend if you’re in the Tokyo area!! the English instructor was amazing! They helped with my 11 year old make her kimono (and loved dressing her up) Everyone was nice and helpful! They help you dress and everything. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 experience would recommend 💜 Thank you 3minutes kimono, we enjoyed our experience of upcycling a kimono into an easy to wear kimono. 👘

Educational kimono experience

Jana_K, Oct 2024
Since I am tall compared to the average Japanese person, I rarely find kimono that fit me. This workshop not only allowed me to learn how to wear a kimono correctly, it also taught me a way to alter any kimono to fit me and the instructors even gave me some fashion advice on how to style it. I highly recommend the experience, as it provides a lot of knowledge about kimono.

Wonderful Authentic Experience

Christy_A, Sep 2024
Wonderful experience! The ladies were very welcoming & hospitable. Making the kimono was a great time. Highly recommend booking this experience if you’re visiting Tokyo.

Wonderful experience!!

David_P, Jul 2024
Excellent experience. My wife and daughter loved the kimono class and the souvenir kimonos. Wonderful experience. I highly recommend it and a great way to understand and appreciate Japanese culture.

Memorable experience with mom!

ilisa_k, Jul 2024
I did this experience with my mother the first day we were in Japan. It was amazing! It was great to meet a local and do a creative activity. My mother literally showed everyone we met photos and talked about how much fun it was. She still talks about it with her friends. She’s in her late 70’s so I was concerned with her having to be on the floor, but she didn’t have any issues. Such a memorable experience for us. Recommend if you are looking for an experience that feels authentic in Japan and not commercial.
