This was the best experience I had during my whole trip! Tomoko is the sweetest and most amazing host. She welcomes no more than four students into her home for a hands on cooking lesson. I did it by myself and enjoyed her company so much. The food was indescribable! We made gyoza, ramen, and fermented cucumber salad. EVERYTHING made me speechless! Tomoko is an amazing, kind teacher. I cannot recommend her class enough! It’s a nice, relaxing atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. I will be coming back on my next trip to Japan!

Outstanding experience! The menu was delicious. I can't wait to try the recipes at home. Tomokita helped us buy some of the ingredients unique to Japan at a grocery store after class.

This experience is so much more than a Japanese cooking class. Tomoko is a warm, friendly host and she treated us like family. We visited the lovely Todoroki temple and valley before walking to Tomoko's home, where we made an amazing lunch together. Tomoko took care to explain all of the ingredients and sent us recipes after the class. We ate many courses of delicious Japanese cuisine and tasted Tomoko's home-made plum wine. Her home is beautiful and we gained a real insight into Tokyo life. Don't miss this very special experience - it is one of the best memories of our Tokyo trip!

Thank you so much for the lovely review. I really appreciate that. It was an honor to meet such an amazing mom and son. I look forward to cooking together again someday.

Tomokita is the best! She customized the menu to my dietary needs (pescatarian) which is not offered in the other cooking classes in Tokyo. This was a huge factor for me since I don’t eat meat. She met us at the train station and walked us over to a beautiful temple. It is in the only valley in Tokyo. She brought us to her beautiful home where she taught us how to make cucumber salad, miso soup and sushi. My son is 12 years old and he was involved from beginning to end. We had the best time. The food was so good. (We also had edamame, cherries, peaches, and matcha cheesecake.) Tomokita had paper copies of the recipes, along with sending a pdf. She also recommended places for us to visit in Tokyo. Highly recommend her class!

We had an incredible experience during our private cooking class with Tomoko in her beautiful home! The entire experience was so much fun, and Tomoko was a fantastic host. She generously shared insights about her community, the rich history of her culture, and her amazing cooking skills. It felt like more than just a class; it was a cultural immersion that I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on. Tomoko is not only kind but also has a beautiful personality that makes you feel right at home. Plus, her place was easy to reach by train. I highly recommend this cooking class to anyone looking for a unique and enjoyable experience in Japan!

Tomoko tailored the class to what we were interested in and adjusted per my food allergies. We first experienced a cool neighborhood shrine and park and then started cooking. We made quite a few dishes and she explained each one. Lunch was delicious and we left very full with the recipes!
Tomoko is very welcoming, warm, and professional! We highly recommend this class while you’re in Tokyo!

This was one of our favorite activities on our honeymoon trip to Tokyo. Tomoko-san is super friendly and kind. She is a very skilled teacher and our limited Japanese language skills were not a problem at all! It was nice to be able to escape the busier parts of the city and see this beautiful neighborhood. The food was delicious and plentiful! What an excellent memory! If you're on the fence, just book it!

Tomoko and her wingwoman Junko met us at the Todoroki train station exactly as planned. Having experienced some of Tokyo’s massive train stations we were worried about finding her but Todoroki station is tiny and impossible to hide in.
The walk to Tomoko’s house through the peaceful Todoroki valley was beautiful and spoiled only by the fact that her Sunshine Spell didn’t work…but we appreciated the effort. The gardens were lovely and there was a small temple/shrine.
After a short walk to her home we started cooking and laughing. Both Tomoko and Junko were delightful company. They had prepared some of the ingredients for ramen and gyoza in advance but left plenty for us to do. Despite our rather ham handed help the results were amazing and plentiful. We couldn’t finish everything even with beer and plum wine to wash it down.
All in all a wonderful and fun experience. Don't hesitate! This was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan.

OMG, this so far is our best experience of our trip. Tomoko is so pleasant and kind. The meal was delicious especially all the little side dishes. Even my picky daughter loved the side dishes which she normally wouldn’t have had eaten. The stroll through the park on the way to her house was so peaceful and beautiful.
Don’t hesitate, book your class with her. This is better then any tourist attractions.

This was easily our favorite meal in Japan. Tomokita is an amazing chef & teacher. She even accommodated a vegetarian option last minute for myself, and traditional ramen & gyoza for my partner. We had so much fun with her & really enjoyed her homemade plum wine as well. I'm looking forward to returning to Tokyo to take another class with her in the future!

Tomoko was incredibly kind, welcoming, and caring. The walk through the Valley was a beautiful prelude to the cooking class. Tomoko made us feel very well come in her home, and had put special effort into prepping the specific meals we had requested (vegan and non-vegan ramen). As the lesson began, Tomoko’s passion for cooking and for sharing her knowledge came across incredibly clearly. She had also printed out the recipes for us to look at during the cooking process, which was very helpful. The food all turned out wonderfully, and we had a very fun time sharing the meal together. If you are looking for a unique, local experience in Tokyo I cannot recommend the class enough!

the lovely souvenirs!

I had a brilliant time in the class with Tomoko who is a very generous host and has a lot of knowledge about Japanese cooking.
I chose okonomiyaki as my dish which I thought would be difficult but Tomoko gives super clear instructions as well as the reasoning why we do things certain ways. My okonomiyaki turned out really well, just like the restaurants in Osaka where you have to queue for an hour but even better because I made it myself.
As well as the the main dish, Tomoko prepared a litany of side dishes, yakisoba and a matcha dessert, all of which were delicious so come hungry. If you are interested in any of these dishes, she will share the recipes with you so you can put what you’ve learned into practice at home.
You can ask any questions you have about Japanese cooking or life in general and she will give a thoughtful and thorough answer. She even sent me home with some Japanese pantry staples that are hard for me to find.
This is a highly recommended experience and a highlight of my trip in Japan. I’m a solo traveler and if you are on the fence about doing something like this, you can take it from me that it will be a comfortable and enriching experience, a lot of that down to a great host.
Thanks Tomoko!

Tomoko was a fabulous host and instructor and prepared a wonderful lunch menu. We were shown and prepared 4 dishes and then had wonderful lunch, with the food that we cooked on the menu.
We were given the recipes, so we can create the menu back home, which I plan to do in the next few days :)!
Many thanks Tomoko for a great experience.

Tomoko-San is such a gracious host, with a great sense of humor and a wonderful demeanor. She has a beautiful home in a quiet and pleasant area of Tokyo.
It was a hot day, so she served delicious cold mint tea and apple juice from Nagano-Ken. We made Gyoza and Ramen, both of which turned out great! She also served matcha ice cream with seasonal toppings and fruits for dessert.
I’d highly recommend this class; it was an immersive experience, and a welcomed reprieve from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo.
Thank you so much, Tomoko-San, for your patience and hospitality!

From start to finish my experience with Tomoko went beyond my expectations. She contacted me prior to my trip to see what I wanted to learn how to cook and adjusted the recipes for my food allergies. We were met by Tomoko at the train station and walked through the beautiful Todoroki Valley to her house, where we enjoyed an afternoon of cooking, eating and enjoying a nice bottle of wine. On the way back to the train, Tomoko took us to the Todoroki Fudo Shrine, the local grocery store and sake shop. I could not have asked for a better time and whenever anyone asks how my trip to Japan was, one of the first things I tell them about is this experience. Truly unforgettable!!

We both learned a lot during this wonderful experience with Tomoko - including how to make extremely tasty gyoza and ramen, and that I can still have room for ice cream after 3 courses of delicious food.
We got to bookend our class with a quaint and serene walk through Todoroki Valley, which was a great opportunity to see another part of Tokyo and help digest our food.
Do not hesitate to take this class! It was one of the highlights of our entire trip, and the best ramen I've had in my life - we're still daydreaming about it. We can't wait to try out all the recipes at home!

This was a wonderful experience with a remarkable cook and guide. Tomoko was right there to greet us and guided us through the beautiful Todoroki Valley. She welcomed us into her beautiful home and everything was laid out and ready for the cooking. It was just the right amount of work on our part and prepared from Tomoko. The food was absolutely delicious and all our friends at home are ready for us to cook for them!

Tomoko was a wonderful instructor who worked hard to make our experience so nice! I'm thrilled that I chose to do this cooking class and was paired up with a lovely family from England that I enjoyed meeting, conversing and cooking with. Tomoko reached out to me a few days ahead to ask me what I was interested in cooking. We chose Curry rice and the other family chose Okonomiyaki...which was perfect! Tomoko had all the ingredients and recipes ready and took us through how to make everything. We were able to participate and do some hands-on cooking too but we were enjoying talking so much that I think to keep things moving, she did most of the work! After everything was cooked, we sat down at her lovely dining table to eat what we had just prepared. She poured us wine and served a lovely salad she had made for us earlier. We ended the meal with an amazing dessert she had made of mochi and matcha ice cream. This experience was one that I will treasure forever when I pull out her recipes to make one of these dishes at home. Tomoko, you were great! I hope we are able to meet again!

I cannot recommend this cooking class highly enough! Tomoko was gracious and very friendly. The walk through the Todoroki Ravine to get to her lovely home was beautiful and a refreshing bit of peaceful nature in the middle of Tokyo. Tomoko’s English is excellent and she speaks Spanish as well so communication was never an issue. Her English recipes and instructions were very clear and made cooking a breeze. We made gyoza and friend rice. Both were delicious and I look forward to making them again and again. She had also prepared several side dishes and a salad with delicious dressing (recipes for all were provided) so it was a very complete lunch. More than anything else, it felt like I spent a few hours cooking and eating with a friend. I had a great time!
