Enjoyable day trip out of Tokyo

My family of 4 booked this trip and Aaryen was our driver. He arrived in advance before 5.30am at our agreed timing as he advised us the day before to leave early to avoid heavy traffic and have more time for sightseeing instead of wasting hours in the notorious traffic jams. Aaryen was very obliging to suit where we wanted to go and he planned accordingly the route. We did not go exactly the route shown on Viator but spent half of our day sightseeing and the other half shopping at Gotemba Premium Outlets unintentionally, lots of laughs for our family because we intended to only go there for 3 hours but ended shopping there for 6 hours as it is a really huge shopping complex. Due to this, we exceeded the max hours on the trip but we were fine to pay the fees for the extra hours which the company was flexible to accommodate. Family had an enjoyable day trip out of Tokyo.

Not a guided tour for us

I booked this tour thinking this is a guided tour which it clearly states in the “what to expect “ portion . I don’t know if Viator and the tour operator had miscommunications. Our driver is a wonderful and friendly driver but not really a guide . He was very punctual. He brought us to beautiful places but told us how much time to stay in one place and he stayed in the vehicle or was on his phone . It was not a guided tour . We were pretty much left on our own to explore . I was jealous of the other families whose guides were with them in the temples or shrines explaining things to them . I paid $474.00 for this because of the guided tour but we did not have a guide . Just a driver , very friendly but not a guide . He went with us just to one place and took 1 picture for our family which we’re grateful for . After the tour on the way to dropping us off to our hotel , he was asking for a review on the link that he sent me which he said I need to do in 3 minutes but the link was a wrong tour that costs $400. I was not happy about this . I think Viator sent us to the wrong tour operator . Our driver repeatedly asked me to do the review and I told him I will not review the link since it was the wrong tour and not the one I paid for . Asking me to review the link is not very professional in my opinion . I have the prerogative to review or not and to give review in my own time and not demand my opinion right there and then which I found very offensive . Overall , the experience was good except very disappointed that there was no guided tour for us .

It is completely unacceptable for a driver to pressure you into leaving a review, especially for the wrong tour, and to demand it be done within a specific timeframe. We have a strict policy against such behavior, and we assure you we will address this issue directly with the driver involved to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Mt Fuji and Hakone tours

Haris is our tour guide and driver for this trip. He pick us up on time at the lobby of our hotel. His car is clean and comfortable. He is very knowledgeable of each site we visited. He did not rush us, he took our pictures and he even pay for our museum ticket cause we did not have cash on hand. Mt Fuji is beautiful. Added bonus it flurries while we are at the pagoda.

We had an amazing trip with Ryu! He was so knowledgeable and we learned so much about the rich history and culture of Japan. Unfortunately it was cloudy and raining so it wasn’t the best day to see Mt Fuji but Ryu took us to amazing spots in and around the area, shrines, great local sushi restaurant, lakes and markets. What an unforgettable experience and I HIGHLY Recommend!!!! Very worth the price and would do it again on my next trip back.

I could explain here Ryu's great kindness and good service, the perfect itinerary that Ryu recommended to us, Ryu's great explanations of the Japanese way of life and culture, but my recommendation is that you don't think twice and book a tour with Ryu now to experience it for yourself! We really enjoyed our tour with Ryu. He gave us a great view of life in Japan as well as planning a fun itinerary with lots of information provided. This saved heaps of hassle personally planning the day and getting to and from places within Mt Fuji, and Hakone. He was professional and a great driver. The car was clean, spacious and comfortable for the trip. If I could do it again I would focus the day on Mt Fuji, since my kids didn't want to do Hakone hot springs or the boat cruise, so it would have saved time traveling between the two and we could have spent more time at the museum Ryu took us to. Additionally he helped us locate and arrange shipment of a lost backpack we managed to leave behind traveling Kyoto to Tokyo which we were extremely grateful for. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. Thanks so much!
