Our guide, Ali, was incredible. He took us on the perfect day to see everything we wanted. He had everything set to ensure we got to really enjoy the most incredible sites and experiences. Go with confidence knowing he is knowledgeable, takes you to the best spots, and does everything possible to make sure you have a thoroughly good time. We will use him again when in Japan.

Although Fuji was hiding behind clouds, we very much liked that tour. It is a pleasant change to leave the city for one day, enjoy the fresh air, the green mountains, the boat trip on the lake. Thanks to our guide Abdul for that wonderful day.

On the plus side, we got to visit Hakone and explore the area. On the negative side, the person assigned to us was a driver only and didn't know anything about the Hakone area. He had been in Japan for only 2 years and didn't speak or read Japanese very well. He had never actually attended any of the locations or tours and so didn't even know what to expect at each spot. He was a very poor driver, with lots of unnecessary rapid accelerations and decelerations, and several near accidents. We didn't get to see everything on the itinerary, as the itinerary itself is based on perfect conditions with no traffic and no lines. In reality, we had to queue to buy tickets, queue for lunch, queue for the boat, queue for the ropeway, queue for pictures at the shrine, etc. Then we were told we had to leave early because traffic was bad and it would take longer than originally planned to get back. Very disappointing all the way around.

We would like to clarify that this tour is not a guided tour, which means a guide does not accompany you throughout the day. Instead, it is a private vehicle service with an English-speaking driver who assists you with navigation and basic communication. The driver is not a guide and may not have in-depth knowledge of every site’s history or details. It is also important to note that speaking or writing Japanese is not a requirement for this service, as the driver’s role is to facilitate transportation in English.
The itinerary covers several popular tourist spots, and as is common with such tours, queues at ticket counters, lunch spots, and attractions are expected, especially during peak times. These delays are unfortunately beyond the control of the tour and driver.

Private tour to Hakone is very good. We got to see what we want to see, ride the Ropeway, the Pirate Cruise Boat, Picasso Open Air Museum, and other beautiful places, and able to take pictures and videos of them. It’s very satisfying. The driver, Mac is very professional, courteous, nice and drives safely that no matter how curvy, narrow, difficult some roads along the way, we all feel safe and able to take a nap quietly. He can also answer the questions we had in mind. We are very thankful to him and to Viator for our wonderful tour experience and ultimately gave us a pleasant and beautiful short vacation in Japan. This was a pretty full day. 1.5 hours drive in each direction, but beautiful scenery in every direction. Abdul was an excellent driver/guide and took some great photos for us. I highly recommend him.

We booked a 10-hour private tour to Hakone and Mount Fuji, but it was a complete mess. The driver arrived late, didn’t know the route, and wasted time at toll booths without the proper card. We even had to pay two tolls ourselves to avoid getting back even later.
The itinerary was poorly planned, we didn’t eat all day because he had no restaurant suggestions, and he drove unsafely with our kids in the car. Exhausting and frustrating—definitely not worth the time or money.

Ahmed was our driver and guide—friendly and easygoing. The pickup from our preferred location was a major convenience.
Hakone was a nice break from the busy pace of Tokyo. The boat ride on Lake Ashi and the gondola up the mountain to the volcanic steam area were memorable experiences. Trying the famous black egg was a fun highlight.
We chose to skip the outlet shopping, as it felt similar to what we could do back home in the U.S. The Hakone Open-Air Museum was excellent and featured a Picasso exhibit during our visit (May 2025).
Although the weather was overcast and Mt. Fuji was only partially visible, the tour overall was a great experience. Would recommend.

Driver had no guidance at all regarding complicated cable cars at Fuji and weather at the top. Seemed like he was never there before. Also car smelled of smoke, and he drove with one hand fast around curves while looking at his phone.

Wonderful trip. Great communication on the front end. Seamless pick up at our Tokyo hotel. Comfortable ride to hakone. Unfortunately the weather was bad so we adjusted the tour to more indoor activities which were great. Abdul was our tour guide and was Wonderful, entertaining and knowledgeable! Had a great time. We had another day in hakone and guided us on the activities to do and even followed up the next day to make sure everything went well. Very satisfied!

We booked this tour expecting a well-organized, guided cultural experience of Hakone and Mt. Fuji. Unfortunately, what we received was a loosely planned car ride with little value for the €370 we paid.
Our guide, Dave, was polite and warm — but not Japanese, and he had only been in the country for two years. He couldn’t provide any meaningful information about the sites we visited, and often didn’t understand or respond accurately to basic questions. What was sold as a "guided tour" was, in practice, just a private driver with no real guiding knowledge or input.
The itinerary execution was poor:
Hakone Shrine, one of the key locations listed, was never visited.
- At Lake Ashinoko, we waited over 90 minutes for a short, 15-minute boat ride - this could have been avoided by reserving the tickets in advance, which was not actually done. That was actually by chance that we finally found a ticket actually.
- We drove over 90 minutes to the Hakone Ropeway, only to discover it was closed — no one had checked in advance.
- We briefly visited the Open Air Museum and Gora Park, but the second stop was rushed and felt like an afterthought.
Gotemba Premium Outlets were not mentioned or included at all.
It is worth mentioning that entry tickets were not included in the tour price — this was clearly stated in the description. Still, it’s disappointing, as it reinforces the impression that the entire cost goes toward the guide's service. And in this case, the "guide" was unable to fulfill that role in any meaningful way.
The company claimed that picking us up in Hakone was a gesture of goodwill — but in reality, it was more convenient for them than for us. The tour required us to choose a pickup location in Tokyo, yet we were already staying in Hakone (just a 5-minute walk from Gora Park, the final attraction). Picking us up locally simply spared the guide the burden of navigating Tokyo’s traffic — it was not an added service.
I requested a partial refund after the tour due to the clear lack of preparation, the absence of core attractions, and the poor value for cost. My request was refused. The operator explained that delays were due to cherry blossom season, and justified the experience by pointing to the free pickup — which, again, wasn’t really a favor.
This was a frustrating and disappointing experience that did not match the description or price point. I would not recommend this tour unless it is significantly improved in terms of planning, guiding quality, and value.

Because we were 2 hours from Mt Fuji it was great with Abdula because he made quick adjustment to the itinerary due to the weather. This was great because we did not wastes time. Although we could not see Mt Fuji we just spent more time in the Onsen. He also took charge at the restaurant so we could save time there to. He was very attentive and explain all our option along the way. I would highly recommended a private tour because of its flexibility

This was a great way to visit Hakone and see the sights if you are not planning on staying there for several days. Abdul, our driver, picked us up on time at our hotel...in fact, he was early! We made our way to the shrine and walked around a bit. Since we were there during the New Year's Holiday, there were many people in line to get an up-close view of the shrine. There were many vendors there selling all kinds of food and souvenirs. We then left for Lake Ashi where we boarded the pirate ship. The ship had plenty of snacks and beverages available for purchase. We opted to sit in the first class section to have a bit more space. We had excellent views of Mt. Fuji while we were on the ship. We then rode the Hakone Ropeway to the upper level. We did eat the black eggs along with many of the other visitors. We were told it would add seven years to our lives if we ate one. Abdul then took us to the Hakone Open-Air Museum. This was, by far, my favorite part of the day. The grounds of the museum are incredible! There are sculptures everywhere! You could easily spend the day here. We were there for just over an hour. There is also a Picasso exhibit that has more than 300 original pieces. We then went to the Gotemba Premium Outlets. This was the low point of the tour. Since it was the New Year's Holiday, cars could not move along the street, the parking lot, or the parking garages. We left Abdul in the car and walked about 1 km to get to the mall. Once we were there, there were so many people. We met back with Abdul, after a quick visit to the outlets, and he drove us back to Tokyo.

The trip is not cheap, but having your own car (instead of a large group in a bus) and a private travel guide with you is worth the investment. This trip is unforgettable! Highly recommended!

First, I want to say that our tour guide did his best, but I don't think Viator gave us an accurate description of the tour. In addition, we had specifically selected an English speaking guide, because we wanted to know more about it where we were going and the history behind it. But our guide barely spoke English. It was hard to understand how long we could spend on the boat, which stops in multiple locations. I also chose this tour because it says Hakone and Mt. Fuji, but Mt. Fuji isn't visible at all on this tour!!!! I was pretty upset about this. It's 90% of the reason I booked this tour. And to add insult to injury, there's a picture of where you can see Mt. Fuji on the gondola, but it's not actually visible anywhere on the trip.

The tour you booked was “Full-Day Hakone and Mt. Fuji Tour with Bilingual driver” and it was not a guided tour. We do have a guided tour with extra charges.
Our drivers can give you an overview of the attraction but they are not a guide. Maybe you had a different perception of the tour and our tour may not have met your expectations. When you take a tour next time please book a guided tour so you can get detailed information. Cruise from Moto Hakone to Togendai port and pass through the area where you can see a beautiful view of Mt.Fuji depending on the weather. It’s nobody fault if Mt.Fuji was not visible due to cloudy weather.

Amazing experience! Waseem was a phenomenal and very fun guide to show our family around Hakone/Mt. Fuji. With private transport, we were able to go to all the places we wanted, as well as his recommendations in one day (likely hard using train/public transport only). One person started feeling slightly ill during the trip and stayed in the vehicle, Waseem was very kind to buy onigiri to help them.

Off the bat I had to pay an extra 10,000 JPY to be picked up at a hotel just outside of Tokyo’s 23 districts. On-site I had to pay extra for the cable car to the viewing area which was not specified in the tour description (the cable car was mentioned as “optional” - but duh, you gotta take it if you want to see Fuji) and should be included considering the high cost of the tour. The viewing area is a geothermal site with interesting tourist attractions and local history but unfortunately Mt Fuji was completely obscured due to haze and clouds. So a bust. After that we went back down and ate at the View restaurant which was nice. I didn’t feel like dropping more money on the lake cruise and then spent the next hour hunting down the tour guide so we could leave. Passed on the shrine because my fun meter had run out. If you can find a less expensive way to get there then Viator I would recommend doing that as there’s no guarantee you will see Fuji and there are extra costs.

Our guide was very very gentle. He understood that we traveled with elders and did not rush us at all. There was a lot of traffic due to it being a weekend. The drive was beautiful and he was informative. We could not cover all the destinations but still managed to see enough and the most important ones.

We really enjoyed our day trip (which definitely takes the full 10 hours) to the Hakone region. Even though it was cloudy and we couldn't see Mt Fuji, the setting is so beautiful that it doesn't really matter. The lakes and mountains are beautiful and there are so many beautiful gardens. Our favorite part of the tour was the Hakone Open Air museum, which was excellent. Looking forward to doing another tour on our next trip.
