We were vey lucky to have our lovely guide Luis Neves for our small group tour to the Douro Valley. Luis was informative, passionate about his home and very knowledgeable. The hosts at both vineyards were very welcoming, the wines were exceptional and lunch was lovely. Our fellow travellers were all very friendly which helped to make the day. The boat trip allowed us to see the beauty of the valley. I would certainly recommend this trip

This was a lovely tour of Duoro Valley. The first stop in Amarante was short but that was to accommodate all the other stops. We enjoyed the wineries, food and boat cruise. Nuno, our guide, was friendly and informative.

Rui S, was our tour guide. He was friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about the history of the area and Portugal overall. The van was comfortable and Rui’s commentary and sense of humour drew together the group of 8 strangers. We would highly recommend this tour.

We had a great day trip with Fred throughout the Douro Valley. Fred was very friendly and detailed, explaining the history of the area. The views from the Douro Valley are breathtaking and beautiful. Would highly recommend this tour.

Absolutely spectacular landscape, wine estates and drive! Must do! Not a fan of port but would still highly recommend!

Absolutely fantastic! Loved every minute of it! The wineries, the lunch, the history, our tour guide was exceptional! Made our trip a 10/10.

We had a wonderful day on this tour! Our guide Fred shared a lot of history and information on the drive to the Douro Valley and between stops as well. The boat ride showcased the beautiful landscapes, the wine we tasted was delicious and from small-production wineries, and the meal we enjoyed was delicious!

Most beautiful cruise ever. Great guide, pleasant drive. Excellent wine tours. Couldn't ask for more. Nice!

Was a great tour , my husband and I really enjoyed it. Rui Lacerda was an excellent tour guide and a great driver! The winery that we had lunch at was excellent as well as the second winery. It was a perfect day. Views of the Douro were lovely.

This was a nice wine tasting trip to the Duoro Valley. Our guide/driver Paolo was excellent. Provided great information about Portugal, the valley, the wine/port without talking too much. You should know though that this was a wine tasting not winery tours, you have a nice tasting experience and a brief estate tour but you don't get to see the production facilities or taste from barrels or that type of activity we have had on tours. Also, it was advertised as a small group tour of 8, which influenced us to pay extra over a bigger tour, but they have a second van of 8 that was there for everything so it is really a group of 16.

Ana was an amazing guide. The day was well thought out and included a good balance of food, wine and views. The small group tour meant we could chat with others and Ana's commentary was very interesting and helped make the long drive even more enjoyable. Her English was excellent and she is a great communicator.

Our guide and driver, Anna, did a great job offering much historical and cultural information She also shared extensive knowledge on port and other wines. If given a choice, I would substitute a third winery for the boat ride. The drive through the valley with photo stops offered beautiful scenic views.

This was a special trip to the Douro Valley to visit two Port vineyards, have a private tour at each one, a delicious lunch and a one hour boat trip on the Douro River. It is a full day but our guide Fred kept things interesting by giving us interesting facts about the area and about Port wine and its history. The wineries we visited had a lot of history in the region and we given generous tastings and tips about how to appreciate the wine. The wine was delicious! It’s a small group of eight people and it was fun to meet others from all over visiting this beautiful part of the world.

Wonderful day in an incredible part of the world. The wineries tours were on beautiful properties with great hosts and nice wine. Our guide was terrific- knowledgeable and enjoyable to spend the day with.

I don’t know how this tour could have been more perfect. Our guide, George, was so easygoing and wonderfully knowledgeable. We loved the small group aspect- no waiting on large groups or folks running late. We all got to know each others’ names and chatted with one another and George as we made the drive out to the Douro Valley and back. The second vineyard we went to- Lot 5, was small and family owned. We were the only ones there, and everything felt so intimate and intentional.
We brought our two kids- ages 7 and 9, and knowing the kids were coming, both vineyards had juice and candy ready for them. There was room for them to explore a bit in both locations. They had so much fun visiting Amarante and on the river cruise. Additionally, the tour group reached out to us ahead of time to ask about our needs for booster seats (which they provided for both kids).
I cannot recommend this tour enough.

Overall a great experience. You get to visit at least two wineries. A nice lunch, a cruise down the river. Our guide was great!

We had a great day with Pedro T providing interesting and humorous commentary. Very competent with all details and worked well with all others who provided boat tour, a wonderful lunch and wine tours and tastings. Even the van music playlist was great. A very memorable experience.
Petra_B, Apr 2026
Compact tour, not too long.. George, our driver, gave us lots of info, Bruno our boat captain explained things well and the lunch, included at the second winery was great. Learned lots about wne and taste testing

I had a wonderful experience exploring the Douro Valley and the wineries with Living Private Tours. Luis who was our travel guide was amazing. From the very beginning, he was incredibly helpful and made sure all my questions were answered with patience and insight. His knowledge of the region really added depth to the trip.
The scenic drive through the valley was absolutely breathtaking, with stunning views at every turn. Everything was nicely arranged, right from lunch to the cruise and wine tasting at couple of quaint wineries, making the entire experience smooth and enjoyable without any stress. Since it was a small group, it felt very private and I got to meet some wonderful people from around the world.
I highly recommend this tour agency to anyone looking for a well-organized and memorable visit to the Douro Valley.

Great tour by Nuno, whose background as a history and geography teacher enhanced the indescribable beauty of the Douro Valley. Frankly, a tour through the valley in a wheelbarrow would be an unforgettable experience. Nuno balanced great information with quiet time to just sit back and enjoy the scenery. Be careful at the lunch stop - they will keep filling your plate until you burst! One thing to keep in mind is that the boat ride is just that -- a boat ride to sit back, have a drink and enjoy.

Alex was a fantastic guide. He kept us entertained all day. The Douro Valley is breathtaking. We enjoyed the small group atmosphere.
David_F, Apr 2026
Well organized. Nuno was an excellent guide. Very informative. Duoro valley is beautiful. Tours were good and lunch was excellent. We left some wine in the van and Nuno found as a restaurant to return it. Very nice.
Toni_P, Apr 2026
Davide was our guide. He was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We appreciated his authenticity in sharing his journey to wine tourism.
The first Quinta we went to is a small-batch producer, 5th generation winemakers. The have award-winning wines and ports.
The boat trip was as advertised: 45 minutes up & down the Duoro River to view the terraced vineyards. Our small group joined many others, so that wasn’t a small group experience.
The second Quinta was also a small-batch producer. We had a lovely homemade traditional meal with starters, salad, slow-cooked pork, and a flan-like dessert that was a cousin of pastel de nata (without the pastry shell).
We also enjoyed our stop in Aramente to walk through the small town and see the historic church.

Great day all round. Fabulous host Joao, chatted about things of interest along the way. We stopped at a wonderful little cafe with amazing cakes. Went to 2 small wineries, had lunch at the first. Tasted red & white wine, port, olive oil & honey. Leisurely cruise down the Douro with fabulous views. Would highly recommend.
David_C, Apr 2026
The tour highlighting the port wine and the stunning beauty of the Duoro valley was fantastic, but what really stood out was our guide, Miguel. Having grown up in Gaia with extended family in the Duoro valley, he artfully and seamlessly blended history, personal experiences and humor, all while guiding the van through roads and switchbacks not meant in places for modern vehicles. The port and quintas were amazing. 10/10 day in Portugal!
Julia_H, Apr 2026
This was a wonderful way to spend a day, see beautiful scenery, find out about the valley and wine and port making. Nuno our guide was fantastic. He communicated with us prior to picking us up. Had so much knowledge and was very happy to answer any questions. The day didn’t seem rushed - but we fitted a lot in.
We stopped at a small town for coffee and then headed to a vineyard. All very friendly, explained how wine and port are made and did some wonderful tasting. Then we headed on a boat ride up the river - beautiful. Then onto another vineyard for lunch - wow so much wonderful food! And wine! Then a lovely scenic drive back.
It’s a long day but we are so glad we did it - definitely recommend. A great group of people and a great guide.
Fran_N, Apr 2026
Douro valley is beautiful. Davide was an excellent driver/guide. The van was comfortable. Lunch at the winery was very good. The boat ride was so so because the commentary was inaudible. Value for this tour was not good. Definitely overpriced. I would recommend looking at other options
Lindsay_D, Apr 2026
Really enjoyed the trip to the Douro Valley. Our trip leader Paulo was informative and courteous and drove safely . Beautiful scenery and a great opportunity to sample local wine, port and olive oil. We had lunch at the second vineyard and I was provided ( by previous request) with a vegetarian alternative. The beautiful town of Amarante was a highlight and we would have loved to have spent more time there. A bit more expensive than a larger group tour but we felt it was worth it as it was more relaxed and stress free.
