Itinerary
Your full-day wine country journey begins with a convenient pickup at your central Porto hotel. Settle into your luxury coach transport and kick back on the scenic drive into the Douro Valley. After approximately 1.5 hours, arrive in the lush valley, where majestic views of terraced vineyards and UNESCO-listed hilltop villages surround you.
Take in the views at your first stop, a classic Portuguese adegas, or wine estate. Tour the grounds of this stately winery, learning about the grapes it grows and how they turn it into wine. See the cellar, where the wine is stored and bottled, then sample some of the wines and learn about the different tasting notes with your guide.
Enjoy a savory 3-course lunch with wine at a traditional Portuguese restaurant in the valley. Then, board a traditional Rabelo boat, that used to transport barrels of wine to Porto, for a panoramic cruise along the Douro River.
At your next winery, an 18th-century adega, learn about the wines more in-depth so that you may contrast and compare how the different terroir (soil) affects the tasting notes of the wines. You’re in for a treat — this small producer specializes in fortified Port wine, which Portugal is famous for. Sample some of the different kinds they produce and, if you like, select a bottle to take home (own expense).
Hope back in your coach bus and relax on the leisurely drive back to central Porto. Your tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel in the early evening.

Covered a lot of ground in one day. Good wine and food, beautiful views. Guide was clear and informative. Arrive early, meeting spot isn’t where the buses are, so expect more walking.

We had a great time visiting the Douro Valley and trying wine from the region. Both wineries were very good and the scenery was amazing! We were very impressed with our lunch at the second winery - a lot of food and super tasty. The boat ride was fun and scenic. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and spoke great English. I would definitely recommend the tour.

Ze, our guide was personable and pleasant providing interesting anecdotal and historical information throughout the tour. Our driver, Ricardo, was excellent in navigating both highway and narrow streets as we took in the beautiful Douro topography. The sumptuous lunch at the Port winery may have been the best ever on a group tour and the decanting presentation was expertly demonstrated. This tour was a finale excursion for our friends before departing and we all agreed we saved the best for our last day! Great memories, wonderful tour, highly recommended1

Great day out in the Douro Valley. Tried plenty of wine and lunch was delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Good way to see and learn a lot in one day without driving yourself and coordinating everything. The group was a bit too large with 28 people but that explains the good price. Do not be shy during the tours. Ask questions and be sure to speak up if you feel the winery tour guides need to speak up or speak slower.

All was good - nice ride, good visits, boat was a nice change. But the boat was a very short ride and seriously I would have thought a glass of wine on the boat during a wine tour would have been a nice touch. NOTE: this is NOT like a wine tour in the US. The wineries did not even sell the ports and moscats that they had us try. Very odd. But it was worth the money, the food was plentiful and the wine tasting was fun.

Beautiful scenery, delicious lunch, and interesting stories and oké és of information from our tour guide Pedro, all conveyed in an enthusiastic, funny yet polite way. It was a great day!

It was not worth the money. There were 4 couples crammed into a small van. The driver did talk but did not use the microphone so those in the back could not hear him. The couple in the front asked questions to which we also could not hear, and the driver answered but like I said, we could not hear anything. The wine tasting and tour was pretty much the same at both wineries. The lunch was just okay. The boat ride was unnecessary. not a fan.

Tiago is a great guide, always happy and talkative and trying to accommodate any desire and make you enjoy the trip. Manuel is a good driver and we felt safe.
BUT this is not a wine tour. Is a nice journey on the beautiful Douro river valley. The first(bonus) stop was a little town nothing to do with wine; the "winery" Vintage Theory - where we had (an average at best) lunch was a beautiful estate but instead of a proper visit we just had a rushed tasting of 3 tawny ports. The lady giving it was downright awful, not liking questions, no explanation of process, grapes,p types of port except a ranting against vintage ones...Then an useless 30 mins boat trip on a super packed smelly boat - no explanation no drinks nothing. Then finally a visit to a proper winery - Quinta S Luiz from Kopke- which though short was at least a visit to the winery, some explanation etc. 3 wines -one white, one red, one port. The tour takes almost 12 hours out of which max 1.5 are about wine...

Great day and very friendly guide and staff at the wineries. Very heavy focus on port wine and not on table wines, which we found a bit disappointing considering the region is famous for both types

An extremely enjoyable trip. Guide Sylvia was knowledgeable about the places we visited and the making of Port. Kept us highly entertained through the day. Comfortable people carrier with an excellent driver. All in all a very memorable trip. Highly commended

Ricardo is a professional, friendly, and knowledgable guide. The tour is on the longer side, but the stops are worthwhile and the valley is beautiful. Communication and pickup worked flawlessly.

The tour was fantastic and our tour guides were the best! The food and wine were delicious. It was a great day!
Eric_H, Sep 2019
The tour started late. It seemed like the guide was a bit disorganized. Many tours left from the same location so it was a bit chaotic. The group size was big so it took time to get on and off the bus. The information the guide provided was a bit basic and uninteresting (talked about how people are living out of the city due to high costs of living, the grades required for universities - same thing could be said about any big city). The two wineries were nice but we had already tasted wine/port from one of them so it would have been good to know in advance which ones we were visiting. The lunch was nice but we were told there would be fish and pork. I don't eat meat but was content to eat fish. Unfortunately the fish was cooked with potatoes and cream and there was not so much fish so I was bit unsatisfied with the meal. If you eat meat, it would have been fine. We would have preferred more information with the tastings about the different wines/ports.

The trip was just what we wanted given our short time in Porto. The various elements of the day, the visits to the wineries, lunch and the boat trip were delightful. Our guide Marina was very good and entertained us when we were stuck in traffic which was the only drawback. Would recommend.
Svetlana_P, Aug 2019
It was an amazing trip to the most beautiful and unique place!
Our tour guide Miquel was so knowledgable and provided a lot of interesting facts and information.
Lunch was delicious and wine tastings very impressive. Porto wines - new surprising discovery for us. Unforgettable and a must-see trip!

Great excursion, everything went as laid out here and even better. The guide was a delight and made sure we used our time wisely.
Gino_G, Jun 2019
This was our 1st time in Portugal and we had to visit the wine sector Douro Valley. Marina and Luis were great guides throughout the day! Unforgettable experience! Obrigado!!!
Suellen_R, May 2019
My husband and myself joined Francisco to head out and visit the Douro Valley! He was great but we found it difficult as he spoke in both English and Portuguese (4 people only). The first toilet stop along the way was delayed due to some passengers selfishly thinking it was a sit down venue - we sat in bus for 25 mins watching them through the window drinking coffee with no sign of getting back into the bus! Lunch was great as was the river cruise but found the final winery not very tasty or friendly. Would suggest another winery or just leave it out! Would have liked to stop at some view points along the road for some photos. It was very beautiful countryside and lovely people on the bus!

Faultless. Beautifully organised and a very interesting day.

It’s definitely a long day but the tour was definitely worth it—best way to learn about and see Douro Valley as a whole and the scenery is stunning! Make sure to ask for Francisco!!
