By far one of the best tours we have ever done! Violeta was an amazing guide! It felt more like she was part of our family. She was early for our pick up and drove is to Douro Valley where we hopped on the boat for our river cruise. It was mighty cold, but did not take away from the impressive scenery. Then we were off to the first winery. We absolutely loved the wines, all of them! This tour company deals with smaller, family owned estates, making the experience more personal and the wines more enjoyable. Off to lunch... wow,a lot of food! We don't usually eat that much, but everything was delicious. Our last stop was at another winery for ports. Our appreciation for ports has certainly increased. Violeta returned us safely to our meeting spot. She was amazing from start to finish. Oops, I even left my sunglasses in the car and, on a day she did not have tours, went and retrieved them for me and delivered them to me! Sign up for this tour... a once in a lifetime experience!

Fabulous day at the Douro Valley

A very special day in the Douro Valley, we where picked up by Hernan with a big smile at 8.30am and drove in a very comfortable car to the valley, Hernan was fabulous and very informative, his knowledge in wine making and all sorts of grapes, as well he taught how to enjoy the wine to the fullest, he was absolutely fantastic, first we had a cruise on the Douro river we went to a small but very upscale, by the name Quinte Do Cume which we absolutely loved., They were very informative and the wine was very good, we where happy to hear that they are selling in Ontario Canada, We had a traditional delicious lunch and after that we went to another winery more established in the Douro Valley which made fantastic port wines and olive oil and Honey which we loved and perched, we wanted to buy port wine as well but we couldn’t as we are traveling all over Portugal. Overall amazing experience thank you Hernan.

MUST DO IN PORTO

This was our first time in Portugal and booked this tour last minute. We weren’t sure what to expect, as there are so many options to choose from. This tour far exceeded our expectations! Our tour guide, Alex was kind, friendly, and knowledgeable. The drive is lengthy, and winding, but speaking to Alex made it feel like you were traveling with an old friend. The boat cruise on the Douro River is lovely if selected (it’s important to note this is not a private boat, you are with a larger group than your group of 8) The wineries included in the tour were phenomenal. Each unique in their own style. We also stopped for lunch at a local restaurant for a traditional Portuguese lunch and it was so lovely. Tons of food options, water, wine, and espresso. The whole experience is a MUST DO, and I credit most of the fabulous experience to our guide Alex for being so engaging and knowledgeable.

A wonderful adventure in the Douro Valley!

We spent the most wonderful day with Violeta! She was so fun and knowledgeable, both about winemaking and the history of the region. We particularly enjoyed the first vineyard, Quinta do Cume. Its whites were simply out of this world. Overall, we highly recommend!

This fantastic tour far exceeded our expectations. Maria was brilliant in giving us a constant stream of great information all day. The wineries were perfect, and the small group (6) was the perfect size to enjoy it all. Two wineries, an amazing lunch, boat ride, and spectacular scenery resulted in a perfect day.

The weather was not on our side but our guide Violeta brought us the sunshine, from the pick-up to the end of the tour. Our day was fun-filled and well-paced. We had time to take a coffee break and make a visit to Pinhão village. The vineyard we visited family-run where you see passionate people and they really want you to enjoy their wine. I feel leaving out the boat ride option is a right decision.

Porto to Douro Valley

Being a group of 8 active adults, we planned a private tour to drive us from Porto to the Douro Valley. Our tour guide Maria Sanchez, from 496tourism.com picked us up from our hotel and gave us a fun and informative drive to the valley. The spectacular views are alone worth the trip, but we continued on a river cruise, then to an beautiful historic family vineyard with tastings and extremely enthusiastic tour guide. The tour included lunch at a beautiful estate overlooking the vineyards. Maria was an exceptional guide and made our day even more enjoyable. I highly recommend exploring the Douro Valley.

We've been on four tours of the Douro Valley in the past year and this was, hands down, the best!. Our guide, Violeta, picked us up right on time and had us laughing and joking all the way to the Valley. Not only does she have a wealth of knowledge about the region and the wineries we visited, but she also gave us a lot of historical information about this wonderful country and about Porto. Having been on other tours, I can say that taking a small group tour (max 8) is the way to go. The wineries we visited were outstanding and each provided great presentations about their wines, their history, and their process in making both wine and Port wine (and in one case, their olive oil and honey as well). And yes, we came home with a bag of goodies. In the last year we became residents of Portugal and had friends visiting us from the U.S. They loved Violeta, the tour, the boat ride, the scenery, as well as the wines and the lunch, which we all agreed was fabulous. This was a truly memorable day and tour.

Amazing experience

Absolutely amazing! By far the best tour I have ever been on. Our guide, Violeta was so informative, smart and funny. She really taught us so much and connected with the group. The amount of wine we tasted exceeded my expectations in both the quality and amount. The food we ate in the vineyard was delicious and such a beautiful location. I can't recommend this tour enough!

El valle del Duero es impresionante, muy bonito. El paseo en el barco, muy recomendable. Y el guía, un verdadero experto y muy amable. Las visitas a las bodegas estuvieron correctas, la primera no era propiamente una bodega, aunque sí una antigua propiedad. Me quedé con las ganas de ver realmente una bodega.

Pero entiendo que el concepto de bodega de España y el de Portugal puedan ser ligeramente diferentes. En Portugal, tenemos la sala de envejecimiento que es lo que ustedes llaman bodega, el lagar donde se pisan las uvas y luego otras zonas para degustación.
