Itinerary

Check in with your guide near the Naples train station. Together, you’ll then walk for around 10 minutes to board a coach for Pompeii. When you reach the UNESCO-listed archaeological site, you’ll be given an audio headset for clear communication, and handed over to your official Pompeii guide to learn about ancient Roman life from the ruins.

Frozen in time after the catastrophic Mt. Vesuvius eruption of 79 AD, Pompeii lay untouched beneath volcanic ash until the mid 18th century. The ash preserved the buildings and artwork of Pompeii’s unfortunate citizens, which today serve as a window into life in the ancient Roman empire.

Pompeii’s archaeological site is huge, but your express tour focuses on its highlights, showing you the best-preserved streets, living quarters, and temples, and giving the stories as well as the facts. Your tour ends inside the site, where you can continue exploring alone, if you wish.

Francesco was amazing! His knowledge of Pompei was so vast; we should have booked a 4 hr tour! We’ve been there three times before but we learned February is definitely a preferable time!

This tour through CityWonders was organized and efficient, two attributes I highly value. A large group was escorted from Rome to meet us in Naples, then we were all divided into small groups of 10 -12 when we got to Pompeii. Our guide was native to Pompeii, an archaeologist, and she walked as she explained the layout and some history to us not much standing around. We saw everything that a longer tour would see, except the amphitheater. This express tour was great for us first-timers now we have a sense of what to see if we ever make it back there.

Lovely compact tour of Pompeii - the guide was knowledgeable and we saw quite a lot in the time. 2 hours is really not enough to do Pompeii justice - I would have loved to also see the arena and the new villa, but there's only so much one can fit into 2 hours.
