Itinerary

Meet your guide near the iconic Teatro Massimo opera house. Street food is cooked and served at street stalls, modest bakeries, and old bars. This street food tour has been designed to show Palermo with no filters of any kind.

Begin by making your way to the Vucciria Market and Mercato di Capo, two busy and colorful outdoor markets in Palermo. Listen as your guide offers insights into how Sicily’s unique culinary history informs its street food scene while vendors of local produce and seafood promote their goods.

Get in line at neighborhood bakeries, cafés, and street food stalls to try a variety of famous Sicilian street snacks. Munch on chickpea fritters called panelle and deep-fried balls of rice stuffed with meat, vegetables, and cheese called arancine.

Sip on a sweet Sicilian wine to wash down your fried treats, and then head for a seasonal dessert. You may indulge in Sicily’s famous cannoli (deep-fried pastry cylinders filled with sweetened ricotta cheese), some gelato, or a refreshing granita (a fruity slushy).

There was a LOT of food. I didn’t expect so much food based on the tour description! Our guide, Alessandro was excellent- we learned about food, architecture, history, and language. We tried all kinds of food in these little out of the way spots that were so tasty! I recommend this tour highly!

Fantastic Guide but Disappointing Bites

I recently took a food tour in Palermo, and while I had high hopes, my experience was a mixed bag. First, I want to highlight the absolute star: our guide, Vinz. He was phenomenal—engaging, fun, knowledgeable, and honestly made the experience enjoyable from a social perspective. If I could rate him alone, it’s a solid 10 out of 10. The company is lucky to have him. However, the food itself was a major letdown. My expectations for Palermo and Italy were high—fresh, vibrant, maybe some seafood or quality local produce. Instead, the food was mostly greasy, deep-fried, and far from the fresh flavors you’d expect. It felt like the cheapest possible options were chosen, and while there was plenty of it, the quality just didn’t match the price point (about $90 per person). No fresh salads, cheeses, or seafood—just one fried item after another. It didn’t reflect the best of Palermo’s food culture at all. Additionally, while advertised as a small group tour, we had 13 people, which felt too large, especially on Palermo’s busy streets. I think keeping it under 10 would improve the overall experience. In summary, the tour guide: fantastic. The food: disappointing. Unless they upgrade the food quality, I wouldn’t recommend the tour as it stands. But if you do go, know that you’ll at least have a guide who’ll make the day enjoyable—despite the menu.

Great selection of street food, would have liked some different drinks to try. Recommend taking a bottle of water with you. Guide was good at keeping the group entertained, just 10 of us, maximum group size is 12. Only downside is that the tour finishes quite far from the start and at 10 I felt a little strange trying to find my way back.

It is more than food. It includes history of cultures and cuisines and their blending in Sicily. Alessandro was engaging, humorous, an excellent teacher, and most importantly an advocate for Sicily. While I wasn’t brave enough to try all foods, the ones I did were delicious. Definitely recommend this to everyone all ages.

I’ve never tried any food quite like this. This might have been the best experience for me so far. No Italian restaurant anywhere in the world will ever compare to the local market food we’ve tried during this excursion. Angelo was the most perfect guide, he is so engaging and told us so much about local history and why the foods that we tried are such an important part of Sicilian traditions. You can tell he really loves what he does. And I loved every second of this experience! Next time I’m in Palermo, I’ll definitely book this excursion again just to experience this all over again! We had a great evening with Alessandra walking through Palermo to all the great street food stops. We had a lovely group who got on well. Be prepared to be pushed to your limits with one local dish which is definitely an acquired taste!
