What To Expect
Make your own way to the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park at the time that is convenient for you.
Your self-guided tour can begin anywhere you like in the 100-acre park. Take a look around the USS Alabama and get a feel for life on a battleship during World War II. As you walk around the ship, you can peak into the kitchen, doctor's quarters, radio room, and more. The ship served as a set for the 2016 movie USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage, which starred actor Nicolas Cage.
Next, check out the USS Drum, the oldest American submarine on display to the public. The submarine was deployed in the Pacific theater, sinking several Japanese warships and providing reconnaissance at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Continue to the Aircraft Pavilion to view the 28 historic airplanes and military vehicles on display.
Other wars receive recognition at the military park. To honor the 100th anniversary of WWI, the Great War exhibit opened in March 2016, and memorials throughout the park include the Korean Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, the Fallen Hero’s 9/11 Memorial, and a monument for Military Service dogs.
Check the calendar for special events such as historical reenactments performed by the Living History team every other month.

The airplanes, tanks, another vehicles were a welcome surprise. My son enjoyed looking at the various vehicles and reading the descriptions.
Lots of stairs and tight doorways on the submarine and battleship, but both were well worth the visit!

Awesome history. Gives you the chance to honor those who gave there lives before you. The battleship is massive and beautiful

Lots to see. Wish there was a map to be able to navigate each part of the ship as it can be disorienting

We enjoyed the tour of the USS Alabama and the USS Drum submarine!! My husband loves history and this was a great stop before our beach trip.

It was a great experience. My children enjoyed learning about world war 2 and the different types of planes. They also have a simulator they got on as well and enjoyed. Definitely is a place to take your love ones.
Bobbi_P, Jun 2026
It was very cool to see the battleship and submarine, both in one place. There is a lot to do and see.
andrea_o, Jun 2026
Once there it was easy to tour the vessels. Very informative and interesting. The videos brought the history of the ship and submarine to life

A must see! The history of the USS Alabama and USS Drum is told so we'll it makes you feel like you are back during WWII. Not only is there the battle ship and submarine but all kinds of military aircraft, tanks, and a beautiful war memorial. Get there early because this is an all day activity. There's a lot of walking and not all of the ship is wheelchair accessible. There are parts of the ship only accessable by climbing very steep and narrow stairs. The cafe has good food and the gift shop has great souvenirs.

Great experience. Just think about all that sailed on the ships and what they went through. A lot of stairs but well worth it.

Woody_S, Apr 2026
Need to be able to walk and climb steep stairs and walk a long upward gang plank. Make sure to allow 5 hours to see everything.
Jocelyn_A, Apr 2026
Should come and see it to know and understand better a pieces of history that USS Alabama and the USS drum submarine and the brave men and women fought for our freedom!
Chis_L, Apr 2026
Fantastic tour
You can’t see it all plus the Drum in one day.
They have a restaurant and gift shop which you have to exit out of.
Velda_A, Apr 2026
Interesting the ship is huge with plenty to see.I would recommend this to all my friends and family.

Whether or not you have an interest in our country's military history, you will enjoy this experience. One can access several floors of the ship and see how the men lived and worked. The submarine is the same type of display. In addition there are many fighter planes to view and learn about. It was all very interesting. I highly recommend this.

Set aside 3-4hours to completely see everything. The Drum submarine was amazing. Some of the outside aircraft and equipment need signage with explanations.
Teresa_A, Mar 2026
Well worth the stop ! Our family really enjoyed the experience! We could only imagine what these men endured 🇺🇸
Jennifer_L, Mar 2026
This was super cool. I had no idea how much there was to see and could have spent several hours here if we had started earlier. The staff was so helpful and kind. So many people all over helping show people things, and help guide you along the way. Everyone was super knowledgable and seemed like they really enjoyed their jobs
Susie_M, Mar 2026
It was amazing seeing what this ship did in World War II. To see everything you need a full day. There is more to see than just the ship. My only complaint was the gift shop closed at 4:00 an hour earlier than the exhibit. I didn’t get a chance to purchase gift for my grand children. The food at the restaurant was very good but pricy. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star was because of the gift shop.
Vanessa_D, Mar 2026
It was a great experience, when you are not on a guided tour there is no one throughout the ship to guide you, some areas are extremely small not a good idea for someone who is claustrophobic or needs a little assistance
Maria_W, Feb 2026
Went to the gift shop at 3:50 and lady said shop is getting ready to close that I have to go to the entrance quickly in order to board the ship. To me the gift shop is as big part of the experience as the tour itself. Drove 6 hours and had to rush and got no souvenirs 🥺 The USS Alabama was a an amazing tour… will have to go again!!
Jacquelyn_K, Feb 2026
Submarine is tight, but worth the effort.
Battleship gives a new appreciation for the men who lived on the ship.
Cindy_S, Jan 2026
Need to be physically able to do steep stairs it was stunning to see the hugeness of what they created
Erin_L, Jan 2026
Loved every part of this experience. The history, the realization of sacrifice from our military, and mostly how impressive the Battleship and submarine are. USA!
Merilee_W, Dec 2025
Great family experience for all ages. Explore as little or as long as you want. Large variety of planes and military equipment as well as the ship and submarine. Congratulations to the citizens of Alabama who had the foresight to create this educational memorial instead of letting this ship be scrapped as many others were.
Kimberly_K, Dec 2025
The Memorial Park is well laid out and well curated. My sons, 19 and 21, loved climbing all over the ship and submarine. Just interactive enough for them to really enjoy the visit.
Wanda_H, Dec 2025
Allow yourself enough time to see it all. It takes more time than one thinks. It’s a fabulous and interesting venue for Mobile!
Melissa_M, Nov 2025
