Fun experience for both young and young at heart. Easy ride through the woods and ponds. A nice area in the middle of the ride just to kick back in the woods, take a little hike, or play corn hole with some refreshments. A nice experience all the way around. Don’t forget to visit the train museum at the Fort Bragg station.

It was super fun, informative and nostalgic as I used to do this as a child. The ride is beautiful through the redwoods while a recording provides the deep history of the area and the train! Perfect for all ages.

Short train ride to a lovely hike. The hike, pavilion and bar area are nice as well. Loved walking in the trees

It was Fabulous just like the post on IG. The only thing that was negative was how dirty the windows are , This is a scenic tour the windows should be clean .

a slow moving train a 25 minute ride to a train station jump off go hike a trail up into the woods make your way back

    Kathy_W, Feb 2026
It’s a $50 ride on an authentic train. You can ride inside the car or stand outside on the open car once you get to the train station hop off go take a beautiful hike through the woods. Come back have a little lunch and then hop on the train for an easy ride back. It is narrated in some of the cars so you can hear historically why it’s called the skunk train . (it has to do with skunk smelling cabbage plants that grow around the train area.) He crosses over bridges , makes all train, old train noises and squeals. Snacks are available on board or at the next train station

Once in a lifetime, but not again

The train ride was nice just be worn. It is extremely cold at the campground. The fire pit was not lit. The heater was not on just to be known that it is extremely cold.

Come ride with us to the redwoods!

    Leonor_I, Sep 2025
The ride to the redwoods was relaxed & comfy. Sitting in the original seats was a big part of the experience. It was fun imagining travelers of the past taking the same ride as us. Later we discovered that the seats convert forward facing with a simple pull on a lever! We had 45 minutes to explore the forest. It was enough time for our short visit. Next time, we’ll take the earlier trip & enjoy the day there. We also enjoyed talking with the park manager on the ride back. He shared more interesting facts about the trees, the future vision for the park, & how the old train engines were restored. It would have been nice to chat with other park personnel throughout the time there. This was a unique 90 minute experience! Oh, since these trains are diesel fueled now, gone are the “skunk” scent.

    Pretty but short

It's a pretty ride along the creek and through the redwoods. It's a bit expensive for the length though. It's weird to me that you spend the same amount of time sitting stopped as you do on the train. We did a short hike through the redwoods during this time.

    Great, as always

This trip, while greatly shortened from years past, is still worthwhile. It's such a beautiful ride and the train staff are always great. The canned presentation is tiresome after the first presentation. Perhaps consider a different spiel for the return trip.

    Great little train ride...

Great little train ride for kiddos. Definitely best to take earlier trip to stay longer at site to walk around. Bring snacks! Enjoy!

Fun experience when in Fort Bragg

    April_H, Jul 2025
Fun train expedience with the large windows by every seat and being able to ride in the open air car. By 4:15 the weather was a little cooler. The 45 minute stop before heading back would have made a better memory if the fire pits were lit, or if the heaters would have worked, and if there would have been more than 1 person at the bar for service.

    Skunk Train Fun

There’s snacks and drinks on the train! We were so pleasantly surprised! There was also enough room for us to bring our stroller on for our 4 month old. Everyone was so considerate and kind.

Short train ride with a 45 min stop. We did the 1 mile trail at the stop which was good. Overall perfect for the kids! My nephew who loves trains said it was the best day ever.

    Great train ride and stop...

Great train ride and stop area. Good use of train car conversion to a restroom. Nice area for looking at trees and birds.

    Not worth the time

    Eva_C, May 2025
Very short train ride with few actual redwoods on ride. Staff friendly and helpful and store full of fun things

    Nice little tour

    Maria_G, Apr 2025
Great tour, only 1.5 hrs total but enough time to do the nice 1 mile hike at the destination before getting back on the train.

    Love, redemption, and trains

    Cody_J, Jul 2024
Riding a train was lit. I had a crush no the kind lady running the snack bar. The puddin creek was puttin a smile a smile on my face.

I was expecting a longer train ride for the $ and not just a long layover. Entertainment would of been nice.

    Jane_S, Jun 2024
The railcars are clean and comfortable. The seats are hinged and can be moved to allow you to sit facing each other and giving you more leg room. All the staff were very nice. The train also has concessions and bathrooms for your convenience.

    Mom and Daughter trip

    Patricia_M, Jul 2023
Enjoyed learning about the train and area. Going through the Redwoods and a chance to get out and enjoy the peaceful feeling. This was a Mom and Daughter trip!!!
