Toledo Monumental Tour

The meeting point and bus trip went well. We enjoyed Toledo, it’s a beautiful. Our guide Maria’s English was very poor and we struggled to hear her as she didn’t speak loud enough. She may know her history but does not have an engaging personality and rarely was able to answer our questions because she has limited understanding of the English language. I imagine the Spanish translation was more detailed than the English one. The tour moved very fast and we were constantly running trying to keep up to her.

APPALLING experience !

We just returned from the tour called "Monumental Toledo!" operated by Viajes Gran Via and it was an absolutely APPALLING experience !... It was advertised as a "guided tour from Madrid", but we only met our "guide" - Daniel by his name - once we arrived in Toledo and he only spent about 2 h 30 min with us... The "guided walking tour of the City of 3 Cultures" consisted in a mere 15 min orientation in the old town - locating the main squares - and ALL of the 3 church interior "guided tours" consisted simply in walking in, talking for a few minutes about "The Burial of the Count of Orgaz" painting, about the different uses of the Saint Mary the White Synagogue through the ages, the main altar & the small back altar in the Primada Cathedral as well as pointing to a few El Greco paintings in the first room of the art museum inside the cathedral and hurrying out... Or the Primada Cathedral is HUGE and lavishly decorated and the "guide" - Daniel can hardly be called that ! - only showed us a tiny portion of what was available to be seen and with scarce commentary at that... Moreover, he did NOT provide neither HISTORICAL BACKGROUND about the city or about the "visited" monuments, nor a NARRATIVE during the walk between monuments, as he spent all his time speaking on his phone in front of the group instead of providing useful insights into Toledo's history... Daniel was furthermore aggressive and impolite when approached about a restroom stop, told us there was NONE SCHEDULED in the itinerary and literally ABANDONED us upon arrival in Toledo to search for one by ourselves, while taking a head start with the rest of the group, assuring us that he would walk slowly and that we only needed to catch up with him when we were done ! Now, what kind of "guide" just drops two tourists in the middle of an unknown city all by themselves and vanishes out of sight ?! ?! ?! ?! .... A responsible guide would have proposed a 5 minute stop for the whole group at a cafeteria or some other such location and given everybody a chance to use the bathroom... In short, this "tour" is NOT really what it pretends to be, being no more than an overpriced bus ride to Toledo, as there is NO GUIDE on the bus and only for a very short while in Toledo, which does NOT QUALIFY it as "guided"... HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE experience ! Do not purchase this tour, it's a rip-off for what is offered and you will have a much pleasanter experience visiting Toledo on your own... After such a bullying experience at the hands of our "guide" Daniel, we would NOT RECOMMEND Viajes Gran Via to anyone : This "tour" was a HUGE LETDOWN for us and it leaves a sour taste of Spain just before heading back home...Tourists, be wary of your bus travel tour operator choice, since it might ruin beautiful memories of a beautiful country !
