Top Madrid Religious Tours in 2026

Begin your tour at the Communidad Judia de Madrid and set off to explore a history that is often invisible, yet deeply embedded in the city’s streets, names, and public spaces. Learn about the Jewish presence in Spain, which dates back more than a thousand years. Hear how Jews were part of Iberian society long before Madrid became the capital of the kingdom in 1561. In medieval times, small Jewish communities existed in and around Madrid, contributing to commerce, craftsmanship, administration, and intellectual life. This presence, however, was fragile, shaped by periods of coexistence as well as growing tension, leading to the exile of most of the community, before coming back in the last century. Indeed, in the 20th century, Jewish life gradually returned to Madrid, carried by Sephardic Jews, migrants, and new generations. Today, Jewish culture, memory, and identity are once again part of the city’s public and cultural landscape.
