Meisha was an excellent guide. She really looked after us very well and was extremely knowledgeable.

The village is very cute and there are a lot of shops and food establishments. However, it is a bit of a stretch to call this an “Artist Village.” Many of the items at the shops could have been bought in Budapest, including t-shirts and hats that said “Budapest” on them, the same paprika items available in Budapest, etc. There were a few true artist shops with locally made items but not many. In addition, we spent a LOT of time going from shop to shop on the tour, with our tour guide promoting “the best place to get X product” at many of them. It felt like the guide was getting a kickback to promote some stores. We certainly appreciate an overview of the shopping but we spent much time stopping in specific shops and discussing what they did in fine detail. Obviously, some of these items were not even a consideration for us to buy. We would rather have less discussion of the shopping on the tour and more time to browse shops (that we were interested in) at our leisure. Tell us about the town, its history and the buildings but just pepper in some shopping highlights. In addition, it took 30 minutes to get the “surprise” Langos snack. This wasted a full 20% of the time we had in the village. Overall, a charming town but not what I would call an “Artist Village” and a tour that was too focused on shopping. I wouldn’t say it was awful but I would not pay over $100 per person for it again.

We always respect our customers’ opinions, but we would like to clarify a few factual points:
1) Szentendre is indeed known as an artists’ town, which is a historical and cultural fact. Since the establishment of the Art Colony, together with its long craft heritage and around 50 museums, the town has rightfully earned this reputation. Of course, it is not possible to meet every artist personally during a single afternoon visit.
2) We find it unfair to suggest that we recommend shops because of commissions. This does not reflect our work or our values. We do not work with commissions—we work for our guests and for preserving and sharing Hungarian cultural heritage. We only recommend places that we genuinely believe offer good value and an authentic experience.
3) Regarding the surprise lángos tasting: as the name suggests, it is an optional surprise element of the tour. If a guest does not wish to try it, it can simply be skipped. We include it because, in our opinion, it is one the best examples of traditional lángos in Hungary, and something very different from what most visitors find in Budapest.

Loved experiencing this small village outside of the city and learning about its role in history.
We even saw Roman ruins from the train!

Definitely worth a visit. A special village with varied history. And close to Budapest. Lots to see and do and everyone was super friendly. Orthentic food and goods. A fabulous artist working on one street. Highly recommend!

Wonderful guide Mishka
Knowledgeable, considerate and very helpful with travel arrangements after tour

I loved this tour, our guide Maisha was very knowledgeable and so friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. We took a train to the artists village which I loved as I felt I was seeing and experiencing much more of Budapest. It was a lovely little village with something for all age groups. After taking us around the village, Maisha took us to a little place where we had a slice of Langos and then we had an hour to do what we wanted. This tour was well worth the money.

You should forewarn of 2 hour walking tour of cobblestone streets. I would not have booked had I known
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Hello! The description mentions walking arround cobblestone streets. As we are visiting a location, which is pedestrian only, walking cannot be avoided. The walk is easy and relaxed paced, possible to be completed by anyone at any age. If someone doesn't want to see everything, it is not mandatory, of course.

The village was lovely and had wonderful stores and an interesting history. Our guide was knowledgeable and at ease with getting us around.

Beautiful village, great museum.
Knowledgeable guide. Lots of shops with interesting things for sale.
Lot's of walking.

It was a lovely experience and our tour guide - Misha - was very sweet. There just wasn't a lot of history that was shared, and I'm not sure that is because there is not a lot of history there or... just wasn't shared. Otherwise, the Artisan village was really pretty and lots of great art.

Maisha was very nice, although unfortunately not very knowledgeable, so felt more like a chaperoned excursion. You could easily visit on your own.
Response from Host, May 2026
Hello! Thank you for your feedback.
As the #1 rated provider for this location, we place great importance on the quality of our tours. We make sure our guides are thoroughly prepared, and we closely follow their work through quality control measures and participant feedback. In fact, many guests have highlighted Maisha’s knowledge and professionalism in previous reviews.
While Maisha was not born in Hungary and may not have the childhood experience of growing up here, she is very well integrated into Hungarian culture and works hard to portray it professionally and authentically.
That said, we always aim to improve. We would sincerely appreciate it if you could send us a private message with the specific areas where you felt she was not knowledgeable enough, so we can better support and prepare our team moving forward.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts.

Rudy is a great guide. His knowledge of Hungarian history, being as young as he is, is impressive. Our group of six Americans was inspired by his passion about his country's future sans Orban. Thank you, Rudy, for showing us that good, not power, can be a way forward.
Anita_C, May 2026
Our tour guide was a student from Bangladesh and was extremely knowledgeable. She was pleasant, informative and we really enjoyed this tour. She even took us to eat authentic langos. It was great! Highly recommend this tour.

Train ride 40 min from Budapest. Lots of walking and climbing steps. Some uneven cobblestones for those with limited mobility might be difficult for you. Our guide was absolutely fantastic. Lots of art galleries and churches of varying faiths. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

It was a fabulous tour. I’m so glad we did it. What a beautiful little town. Met a fabulous couple of ladies from England and France and our guide was amazing considering she is a university student here from Bangladesh! I can’t remember her name but she was just lovely and so informative. I was a little sad that not many the artists galleries were open but never mind. I tasted my first lavender ice cream and bought a beautiful little painting from the an artist on the side walk. Great day was had

After several days immersing ourselves in Budapest itself, we did this nice trip for a visit outside of the city. It's a wonderful little craft town and our guide, Rudy, provided so much information. Super friendly and knowlegable, he made the place come alive!

My mother and I had such a wonderful trip to Szentendre with our lovely tour guide, Maisha, who was so warm, welcoming, and well-informed! I only had one day to sightsee outside my business trip, so I booked this trip for my mother and me. It didn't disappoint! Highly recommend if you want to walk through a small village with so much to look at and explore. We went on a Thursday and it was not crowded at all. I highly recommend visiting the chocolate shop and having chimney cake as a sweet treat! One of the highlights of my trip!
Lydia_H, Apr 2026
Rudi showed us all the amazing places inside and en route to Szentendre! He recommended the best shops, shared stories and histories of the area, and bought us delicious lángos. Highly recommend!
Debra_W, Apr 2026
Rudy was a great tour guide. He was knowledgeable about the region, the history, and the politics. He was open to answer all questions we had about the lifestyle and culture. The train trip out to the artist village was pleasant, and you were able to see sights outside the city. Would recommend this tour.

Our guide Balazs was very informative not only about Szentendre but about Hungary in general. He was proud of his heritage and willing to share his thoughts. He was very considerate and helpful with one member of our group who needed assistance.

Fun day trip from the city. We really enjoyed it. Balazs was our guide and we found him interesting and informative. The town is beautiful!

Riding was an excellent guide who knew so much about the history and culture of Hungry. Rudi took us to all the beautiful churches and shops. He also treated us to a yummy Langos and we really enjoyed his company. The weather was perfect and the train ride out of the city was nice. Again we thank Rudi for being so knowledgeable and friendly. A perfect way to end our week in Budapest.

Great experience in a really cool town in Hungary.
Tour guide, Rudi, despite having a big portion of the planned group backing out last minute, led a fantastic tour. Train ride to and from Szentendre was filled with great history lessons and insight into areas we passed.
The town was great - with many food and souvenir shops. Rudi provided a wonderful walking tour of the location and left plenty of time for exploring as well. Highly recommend

Beautiful, relaxing visit to this lovely UNESCO wild heritage site. Amazing landscape, quaint shops, delicious food and drink offerings. Our guide, Rudi, was incredible: full of knowledge and history, and personable too.
Rachel_B, Dec 2025
First off—Rudi is an incredible tour guide. It was only my friend and me on the tour. Rudi was incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and passionate about Hungarian history and culture. We had a great time exploring the artist’s village and came back with plenty of souvenirs and stories to tell. The town is so beautiful and worth the excursion.
