Great way to see the city sights on a short trip to Budapest but there are not enough buses to meet the demand and it's not even high season yet. Not guaranteed that you will be able to get on the bus never mind a seat! If returning to Budapest I would use the public bus and tram services instead.

We booked hop on hop off through Viator. It was a hugely popular activity and there were not enough buses to accommodate the tickets sold. Hence considerable difficulty using the service, the brochure quoted 10-25 mins frequency. The first bus we tried to board came 45 mins late and was full. This was a pattern over the next 2 days of the booking. At one point in the route the bus was asked to debunk and get on another bus that was already quite full. Not very organised. Staff did their best but very poor activity.

Don’t spend your money on this in Budapest very bad managed operation with a really rude staff!!!!! I have been on this buses in many places and here not worth it the hassle gives you bad impression of the whole experience. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!

Do not book this experience!!!!!

Looks like the company does not have enough buses. We waited 30 minutes for a bus at stop 5 only for the bus to be full, waited another 25 minutes for a bus, it also arrived full. At this point we were frustrated and tired and were not sure if there will be a seats on the next bus. Viator please remove Budapest Big Bus from your site, in all the years I have used Viator, this is the only negative experience I encountered. Looking at other reviews I was anxious when I booked, now I know I made a mistake.

Big Bus HOHO Tour !

This was a fabulous option and l’m so glad l booked - got the 72 hour ticket as l was there 4 nights and it was great value. Included a free boat cruise during the day which was a welcome rest from walking for a short time. Budapest is stunning and this HOHO let you cover all the main attractions - as with most city’s now the traffic is busy but overall the buses were plentiful and regular. The info provided via the headphones was great and the staff were always helpful and friendly with any questions.

Watch were you get off at a stop. Signs are small and can be difficult to find. You and get on either bus company bus. They take both tickets.

Long distances between stops so plan on being on the bus for a while for the whole city tour. It even takes you across the river to Buda Castle area.

A bit confusing

A bit confusing because Big Bus has been subsumed by City Sightseeing who indicate that they have an included boat trip while our Big Bus ticket booked online is to include a walking tour. We don’t think that there will be time to make there in time to start at 11 given where our boat is moored and Sightseeing describes the walk as a Tip Based walk that you should pay for by tipping at least 7 Euro. Also you must change buses at #9

Not worth the money

I should have listened to others. Not worth the money. We paid for two days but only used it for one complete tour. Stops are difficult to find, usually just a small red board. Audio guide was out of sync with the places. As we are both over 65 all public transport for us was free so it is better to jump in a very frequent bus service or tram or use the fantastic quick metro to get to the places you want to see.

Always interesting always worth it

Always do a HOHO bus when we are on holiday. There is an opportunity to increase the interesting information given there were alot of silence. Some of the recordings appeared to be cut off at the beginning which meant you missed information. The staff were super friendly and the drivers we clearly very experienced as the traffic they had to navigate was pretty intense.

The bus was a good way to see the city even on a cold and rainy day. The time waiting for the bus was reasonable. The only issue was pick up point was changed at one of the stops so we missed the bus and had to wait for another.

You do not have to redeem the voucher at a certain place like it said on my voucher, we did it on the bus & we were given our 2 day ticket there & then. We were so pleased we got a 2 day ticket, it was handy to be able to jump off & on when you want to.

Check before you buy

Make sure what you bought is what you’re getting as ours didn’t The boat trip advertised as a 1hour included ride was no longer a part of the deal since start of 2026. Viator did not notify us of this so having booked the trip back in October we feel short changed on our arrival to be told we only get a 30% discount when we book a river trip.

Room for improvement

The bus was cold, the roof was leaking and some seats were wet. The audio stopped randomly in the middle of sentences and didn’t continue from there later on. The information we were sent before the tour, to exchange the QR code we got in the email to tickets at one of their three offices was false, we went for nothing, they gave us tickets on the bus when we got on. They made us all get off the bus at one point and switch to another one, which is an inconvenience especially in the rain. There is definitely space for improvement for this company. The language selection is nice though.

Intro and Transport in Budapest

I am afraid I score it...

I am afraid I score it low for several reasons. Firstly we struggled to find pick up on first morning as we were looking for the Big red bus.It seems you operate on both the Big bus and another operator which we were unaware of. Second morning we had to get off the bus as it was stuck behind a tram and couldn't move. We ended up trawling the streets in Budapest as we were unaware of our route no other buses followed due to the blockage of traffic. On our journey home the bus driver set off before my husband had got to his seat upstairs. He has injured his rib as he was slammed into the hand rail on the stairwell,if you have cctv you can see this ,it was on tge 2nd Dec. This was discussed with the young lady at the front of the bus as we dissembarked. It was also witnessed by the other passengers on board. Apparently before we boarded the driver had a altercation with a van driver also traffic rage,we don'tknow if had to catch up on his time. The third evening we waited for at least 15-20 minutes in pouring rain. Feel this was our worst experience with a hope on and off which we used around the world. We still may need to consult a doctor regarding his pain / injury. Very dissapointed. June Spavin
