Itinerary
Your tour begins at the Dohány Street Synagogue, where your meet your guide and small group.
If you've chosen the Essential Tour, set off on a concise route designed for travelers on a stricter schedule. Begin by visiting the synagogue—the largest in Europe—and then explore the Jewish Museum, which hosts an impressive collection from Hungarian and Eastern European artists.
Then, continue to the Raoul Wallenberg Holocaust Memorial Park, named for the man credited with saving the lives of thousands in the Jewish community. Pass through the old Jewish Quarter, once a ghetto during the Second World War, as well as Heroes’ Temple, which pays homage to lives lost during World War I.
For a more comprehensive option, choose the Grand Tour, which picks up where the Essential Tour leaves off. Continue to other notable synagogues and memorials. Visit Carl Lutz Memorial Park, named after another famous figure during World War II, as well as the Kazinczy Street Synagogue.
Finally, pause for some sweets at the kosher Frohlich Bakery and Café. Receive a 10% discount to the kosher restaurant Carmel, to be enjoyed later in the evening on your own if you wish.

The tour was extremely moving and very informative. Dora, our guide, was excellent. She was knowledgeable about the history and the tragedy. We highly recommend the tour.

Dora was our tour guide and she was very informative. So much to see and such important history for the world to see and be aware of and never repeat.
Had no idea how ornate some synagogues were in the past as they're just gorgeous.
One thing I would add is to make sure in your listing that people know women need their shoulders and knees covered when going into the shuls.

Excellent tour. Sign up for the “grand tour” vs the “essential”. You see more of the Ghetto as well as a jewel of a smaller, 3rd, synagogue.
The cemetery at the main synagogue is very thought provoking. Take your time.
Guide was thoroughly knowledgeable and fluent in English.

Excellent tour. Benjamin is an excellent tour guide, knowledgeable and lively, and his (American accent) English is amazing for someone who has never lived in the U.S. We did the Grand Tour, and the second synagogue in Secession style is worth seeing. Highly recommend

Ben was prompt, quite knowledgeable & intelligent, engaging….as a local, he was well acquainted with the history of the synagogue and all the sites on visited on the tour. He shared Holocaust stories of families who survived as well as economic and political issues that affected Hungarians past and present.

This was one of the best tours we have experienced in 6 weeks travelling around Europe. In fact, our tour guide was one of the best tour guides we have ever met. His level of knowledge, his willingness to engage with all the tour party, his enthusiasm for content, his willingness to take discussions further, he went over time, it was a fantastic tour and highly recommended. Given that most of the people on the tour were not Jewish, it was very interesting. These people learnt a lot about what has really been going on in Budapest in the past few hundred years, and the tour guide was absolutely fabulous.
Response from Host, Jun 2026

Benjamin was our tour guide. One of the BEST tours ever. Our guide was so very well educated on every part of the country’s history, politics and Judaism religion and history. He took every question from both knowledgeable and less educated participants. No question was left unanswered. So very happy we had Benjamin as our guide!

This tour provides and in depth picture of Budapest's Jewish community in the present, and especially during World War II.
We need to remember the past in order to prevent atrocities in the future. Our tour guide was exceptional and knowledgeable.

The guide and 3 travellers became separated ...no contact number ,one gentleman rang your office boss said she did not have guides number so whole time spent looking for her ,found at end of tour ..not good....if group of 20 too large dont do it and no microphone makes it almost impossible to hear
Toby_B, Apr 2026
The guide was very knowledgeable and also very thorough. Unfortunately, he spoke nonstop for almost 90 minutes while we sat in pews. I expected to be guided through the synagogue and the museum. I thought this was a walking tour.
