I highly recommend this tour to learn about the history of Budapest. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English.

Matthew was an excellent tour guide. His knowledge is excellent and he is very thoughtful in his presentation of the history of Buda. He is patient and answers any questions. We learned so much from him and are happy he showed us around Buda.
If you are wanting to understand the extensive history of Hungary this is the tour for you! Matthew was an exceptional guide and his passion for sharing both the archeological and historical facts of the Buda area makes this an incredible tour. He was willing to generously share his time to explain every detail and answer every question. His use of technology helped to bring up photographs from past events and show how the buildings in the area had changed overtime. I highly recommend you book this tour! it will be the best part of your holiday time in Budapest.

Our guide, Matthew has an impressive deep knowledge of Hungarian history, you could tell he loves his country. The explanations of the different architecture and the archeological findings in and around the castle, and the descriptions of all the historical characters were fascinating and communicated so well. We thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Buda Castle, the tour is well worth it and if you happen to get Matthew then your tour will be all the better!

Matthew was exceptional. His in-depth knowledge was outstanding. I throughly enjoyed learning about the rich history and culture.
Matthew was very knowledgeable. He spent the first 1.5 hours sharing history and showing us pictures on his iPad. I would suggest he start the tour in a local coffee shop with a treat and then conclude with the walking part. It was too long to just stand and listen to him, although what he said was very interesting. We would have paid more attention if we were in a cool relaxed atmosphere instead of out baking in the heat.

We had a great experience on our walking tour of Buda Castle. Our guide, Matthew, was knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about Hungarian history. He did an excellent job bringing the castle district to life with interesting stories, historical context, and local insights that we never would have learned on our own.
The pace was comfortable, there was plenty of time to ask questions, and he pointed out hidden details and great photo spots along the way. Whether you’re visiting Budapest for the first time or have been before, I highly recommend this tour. Matthew is very knowledgeable on the history of Budapest and Hungary, it’s very lucky to have a guide so enthusiastic about history and his presentations of photos on his IPad was most helpful. His background in archeology made the tour extra special and the time just flew.

This was a great way to learn about the Buda side of Budapest which has a very different history than the Pest side. Our tour guide Matthew was very knowledgeable and well prepared and we gained valuable insight and appreciation of the structures and the history. Unfortunately we had miserable cold rainy weather during our tour, but we still learned a lot. Also was disappointed St Mathias Church was closed- not sure if it was because it was a Sunday as no explanation given. (Interior of St Matthias is not included in the tour). I think it would have been nice if Matthew had chatted with us at the beginning of the tour to tell us a little about himself and what our particular interests were so he could tailor the tour accordingly, but he was very good about answering questions and providing context. From our hotel in Past side, it was very convenient to walk across the Chain Bridge and ride the funicular up to the Castle and tour meeting point.

While interior entry to the church is not included as part of the tour experience, I completely understand the disappointment of finding it closed during your visit.
