I would not recommend this trip to Potsdam. Nice bus, guide was prompt. This tour did include one stop after a 45 drive to Potsdam. Then back on the bus and a 45 min drive back to Berlin. You do not actually stop at any of the sights (other than the one Sanssouci Palace). You simply drive buy and attempt to get a glimpse of somehting through the trees. The Sanssouci stop was very good but this is what is needed at more than one place. Disappointing and burned nearly the entire day as getting to/from the bus meeting point was another ordeal. If we could have stopped at all or some of the sites listed in the itinerary it would have been a nice tour.
Excellent tour with a very good guide giving historical context and interesting stories. Great Value
Easy to find meet up spot and drive to Potsdam was smooth. Enjoyed learning about the history and had our questions answered. Would recommend to others interested in this
The tour guide seemed nice and she was very knowledgeable. The bus ride was comfy.
The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way- we had about 35 mins free time. We were meeting back at 2:40. I joined the group at 2:39 and said I was thinking we were meeting at 2:45. What she should’ve said was - “no worries- you’re here on time”. Instead, she went into this thing about others think it’s 245 and I don’t know how that happens but I said it very clearly at the beginning blah blah blah. That’s all why are you even saying this I was on time. I just made a statement. Anyway bottom line is this is an interesting tour and you should probably take it. But after that, I decided a tip was out of the question. I know that’s kind of a wimpy, but you gotta be cool.
The itinerary for this tour was excellent, and the transportation was first class. The coach was comfortable, the driver was exceptionally safe and professional, and his knowledge of the route added to the experience. The highlights of the tour, particularly Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam, were fascinating, informative, and absolutely worth visiting.
Unfortunately, what should have been an outstanding tour was significantly undermined by the execution of the tour guiding.
Bridget is clearly very knowledgeable, passionate about the history, and genuinely enjoys sharing it with visitors. However, throughout the day, it became apparent that she struggled to manage the group effectively. In my view, the fundamental issue was that she no longer appeared able to exercise the level of leadership, crowd management, and decisiveness required for a large and diverse tour group.
As the day progressed, the participants effectively dictated the pace of the tour instead of the guide. Several noisy participants repeatedly talked over Bridget while she was explaining the sites, making it difficult for others to hear and appreciate her commentary. Rather than firmly but politely regaining the group’s attention, she allowed these interruptions to continue throughout the day.
The same group was also loud and disruptive on the coach, yet there was little attempt to establish or enforce basic expectations of courtesy for fellow passengers. While occasional chatter is understandable, continuous loud conversations made it difficult for others to enjoy the journey or listen to the guide.
One incident particularly highlighted the lack of group management. At a souvenir stop, one participant continued shopping well beyond the agreed time while the remaining 17 participants stood outside in heavy rain waiting. Bridget did not appear willing to retrieve the participant or enforce the agreed departure time. Only after I raised the issue did she intervene. It was frustrating for the majority of the group to be left standing in the rain because one person was allowed to ignore the schedule without consequence.
Another avoidable issue concerned the weather. There was a significant downpour during the tour, yet there had been no advance communication reminding participants to bring umbrellas or rain gear. Given that weather forecasts are readily available and tour operators can contact participants through the Viator platform, a simple message the day before or on the morning of the tour could have saved considerable inconvenience.
Instead, many participants found themselves completely unprepared for the rain. This led to unnecessary delays, complaints, and even threats from some participants that they would not continue the tour unless they could obtain umbrellas. Eventually, many purchased umbrellas on the spot at approximately EUR27 each. Much of this disruption could likely have been avoided with a simple weather advisory beforehand.
Overall, the tour itself deserves high praise. The itinerary, destinations, transportation, and historical content were all excellent, and I would certainly recommend visiting Sanssouci Palace and Potsdam.
However, I would hesitate to recommend this tour if Bridget is the guide. Her historical knowledge is undeniable, but effective tour guiding also requires strong leadership, time management, clear communication, anticipation of foreseeable issues, and the confidence to manage group dynamics. On this occasion, those aspects were lacking, and they significantly affected what otherwise could have been an exceptional experience.
The guide was great - very knowledgeable. If your purpose is to learn a lot about history and places you pass as well as to see only the apartments and the gardens in Sanssouci, this is a good tour for that. In the Apartments, you use the museum audio guide on your own.
The tour only two stops are the Bridge of Spies and the palace itself - you will drive by but not get out of the bus in either Market Plaza or Dutch Quarter or anywhere else, and will not get into Belvedere or any other part of the complex besides the Apartments and the garden, so if you have more ambitious plans, better to take a different tour or go by yourself.
Also, bring your own water - none provided.
The tour guide Jasmine was phenomenal! She had very deep knowledge of, and good command on English as well.
Susan had a wealth of knowledge and shared it easily with the group. She was very engaging and the your was a great history lesson
Great tour. Very well organized and executed by Susan and Tomas. Susan (our guide) was very knowledgeable and was with us throughout the tour enhancing our experience.
Taking this tour will increase your knowledge immensely. Great tour guide and she was incredibly aware of everyone’s needs.
Good tour. Suzsanna and Mattie were very good and Susanna is very knowledgeable. I think the Sans Souci Palace visit should include a visit to the paintings gallery and there should be a stop off in Potsdam Town to see the Dutch style houses but otherwise a good tour overall.
I went on this tour solo on July 9th and had a great time. Tour guide, Susan, was incredible and a wealth of knowledge on large variety of subjects which made the trip extra entertaining. I have done many of these types of tours over the years and I can confidently say that Susan was the best guide I have ever had. Highly recommend!
There is some walking and if you go to the bottom of the garden then there are a lot of steps to climb back up but worthwhile
Sanssouci Palace is an excellent example of 18th century excess, with fantastically preserved rococo details. If you’ve been on any (or many) of the obligatory European palace tours, you’ll appreciate that Sanssouci is small: just 11 rooms that you can cover in half an hour. The rest of the Potsdam tour is just ok, with brief views of forests, lakes and the Bridge of Spies. Our guide was authoritative and helped make the quotidian parts of the tour more interesting.
If it’s a hot day the bus will not be a refuge, it was incredibly hot.
They didn’t stop in the town hall area which was worthy of a stop.
It was a wonderful tour. The guide was very informative and very pleasant. The. Tour was very efficient and comfortable. We really enjoyed it.
Everything was on time and to plan. The guide was great. Well informed and enthusiastic. Great driver too.
Highly knowledgeable guid and very pretty views. I recommend going either really early or as the sun is going down for a nice night view
Tour guide Jasmin was very nice and knowledgeable had a great experience. Thank you had a great time with family
It was absolutely amazing. Our guide Jasmine was so knowledgeable and switched from fluid English to German effortlessly
It was a v good day out with a lovely local guide, Jasmine, who was v informative and definitely knew her history. Also loved receiving questions.
However, I would have liked to have visited one other building, whether a palace, tea room, etc and/or perhaps a short stop in Potsdam itself for a photo opportunity of which there were several possibilities. Otherwise, a v enjoyable and relaxing day which I’m v pleased I went on.
A good break from the city into Potsdam , area filled with old kings and too modern history. Enjoyed the visit although experience would have been better if roads weren’t closed for a major cycling event. Perhaps to recommend not to do this on Sundays where typically major events are organized
Great experience! Karen is so friendly and knowledgeable! I learned so much from her and had a great time!
Very elegant boat, we were the 3rd and 4th in line so got to sit up front on the little roof in front (but unfortunately right next to the rather strong loudspeakers). Recorded narration in English and German.
Worth the price.
I had thought of making my own way to Sanssouci but decided to take this trip as everything was organised for a visitor. It was long enough to get a sense of the opulence of Frederick’s summer retreat. Yasmin was a helpful and knowledge guide giving us lots of information about Berlin’s history as we made our way to and back from the palace. We also stopped at the Bridge of Spies on the way.
We had audio guides for the palace then got an overview of the gardens and vineyards with Yasmin. I thought it was long enough to see everything and good value and would defiantly recommend it.
Having a knowledgeable friendly guide provided historical information that really added to the experience
Absolutely brilliant tour. The itinerary is so well planned that the four hours fly by without ever feeling rushed. Our tour guide Yasmin is outstanding — funny, engaging, and perfectly timed in her delivery. Her explanations hit exactly the right depth: enough detail to feel enriched without ever becoming overwhelming. The coverage is impressively broad for a half‑day excursion. I’d definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking for a smart, well‑paced, and genuinely enjoyable experience.
Our tour guide had excellent knowledge of the interesting things to see and great general history on the way to SAN SOUCCI
Excellent guide. Very knowledgeable and nice. Quick tour to Sanssouci palace and back, not much free time. Recommended if you just want to see Sanssouci palace.
It s very boring and way longer that would need to be. There is no stops in the city and there are several languages in the bus.
