Three languages, not two as advertised. French and Dutch was live over loudspeaker and English was precorded. English prerecording was often cut out /overidden so that other two language talks could be spoken. Also, the speakers couldn’t accommodate the guide’s voice and so caused distortion. It was all loud and confusing- seemingly chaotic. It was not a relaxing enjoyable ride.

I want to start off by saying that the tour guide was great. Wonderful dry humour and interesting tidbits of information. Smooth boating. Splendid. Almost everything else was subpar or not good - the seats were too small to sit without jamming your knees against the seat in front. The boat was filled with drunk people who were somewhere in-between talking loudly and yelling almost constantly. In many cases the boat went too fast to properly see the light art. The other passengers were so rowdy it took a lot of concentration to hear the audio guide about the artworks. Luckily I could pay for mine and my partner's ticket with Viator points, because if I'd paid for it with money I would have been sorely disappointed. As it was now, it was an overstimulating and tiring experience that I would not enjoy to repeat but was made bearable by my partner's presence and the tour guide's wonderful attitude. I plan on going past the tour stops again on my bike to have a proper look and will do that next year, too.

Hi Imke,
Great to hear that the guide did such a good job. We are sorry to hear that the crowd, the seats and the atmosphere had a negative effect on the tour. Our apologies, Stromma - Team

bad weather puts a damper on the ability to take grate pics. Not the provider's fault. Fog on the inside and raindrops on the outside. But the views are astounding

EXTREMELY BORING. BARELY HAD LIGHTS. Complete waste of money. A lil girl that sat behind me maybe 5 yrs old pretended to fall asleep n when she "woke" up she asked her mom did I miss more boring stuff... definitely not considered light festival.

The Christmas Light displays were only mediocre and we often couldn't see them clearly from the angle of the boat or side they were on from us. The hot chocolate was only lukewarm and check in was chaotic. We ended up on the cruise before ours despite asking if we were in fact boarding the right boat. Luckily that one wasn't really crowded. It's nice that they provide squeegees for all the moisture on the windows, many of which are scratchy and hard to see clearly through anyway.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're truly sorry to hear that your experience didn't meet expectations. We understand how important it is to have a clear view of the lights, enjoy a warm drink, and have a smooth check-in process. Your comments about the boat and squeegees are really helpful, and we'll be addressing these issues to improve the experience for future guests

A real half ass presentation of what should've been amazing. The boat was rattling so loudly we couldn't hear the narration, which about half way through was out of sync anyway. The boat windows were so dirty you couldn't see out.

Hi Dante,
Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry your experience fell short. Since this review was written over two years ago, we’ve made significant improvements to our boats, narration system, and maintenance. We’d love the opportunity to show you the improvements firsthand, so if you are in the city for this year's Amsterdam Light Festival, please contact us.
